NY Times Confirms: ‘Stand Down’ Order Given to Capitol Police During January 6th Riot

The New York Times has finally confirmed what many political observers had been saying all along about the Capitol riots: It was pre-planned, the Capitol Police knew it was coming, and authorities effectively gave a ‘stand down’ order.

A new 104-page report dropped by an internal investigator shreds authorities for intentionally hampering the police response on what has subsequently been claimed was a “coup,” an “insurrection,” and an attempt to “overturn” the results of the 2020 election.

The Inspector General of the Capitol Police laid bare all of the disturbing issues involved with the way the January 6th Electoral College security was mishandled.


“A new report by the Capitol Police’s internal watchdog found that department leaders overlooked key intelligence in the run-up to the riot on Jan. 6, including a warning that ‘Congress itself is the target,’ and barred the force’s riot response unit from using its most powerful crowd-control measures,” the New York Times reported.

The powers that be in the US Capitol had advance warning about what was coming. There was proof that the acts there on 1-6-21 were planned well ahead of time. Democrat political leaders made the Capitol police stand down. Why?

DC Mayor's office has no authority over the Capitol police.

3 out of the 4 members of the capitol police board resigned after the capitol riots. To my knowledge, none of them said democratic leaders told them to "stand down."

I see some republicans are part of the committee. So how is the entire makeup of the chain of command heavily democratic?

 

Subcommittees are partisan but if you're not in the majority, as was the case with the authorizing House sub of the 116th Congress being Democrat controlled, you basically sit in the back with your mouth shut per the various rule changes Speaker Pelosi enacted as speaker during the 2019/20 session.

Republicans in Judiciary, Oversight and Reform, Intelligence, and House Administration all sent letters asking for a probe, which was dismissed by Democrats, into the ignoring of the former Capitol Police Chief's request for National Guards reinforcements, a request he made with intelligence indicating a likelihood of an incident which was shared and dismissed by both the CPB and various Democrat run subcommittees. Former Chief Sund testified under oath that he formally asked 6 times for reinforcements, providing intel as to why, and we all know they were denied. Republicans wanted to investigate. Republicans wanted to put each person Sund said he asked under oath and have them recount the events. Democrats blocked this from happening because they were in a position to do so, just as they were when declining Chief Sund's requests.

So you see, Republicans did try to raise the issue - and they were struck down due to lack of power because that's how parliamentary order works unfortunately.

 

The Congressional oversight committees have no operational control at all over the USCP. They are not making the day to day decisions as you are implying. And the Mayors office has no place at all in their command structure.

 

Mayor Bowser was involved in the process and decision for deployment of National Guard troops, her chief of staff confirmed this. There might not be some crystal clear law saying 'DC Mayor is in charge' but she was a part of the upper echelon of leadership that oversaw the government's response to the prior intelligence they had of 6-Jan incident. The Schermerhorns didn't run the city but they were listened to quite carefully by them who did.

 

The National Guard troops and the Capital Police are two separate entities. You said the DC mayor was in the command structure for the CP

 

I don't know about want, but Democrat leaders and pols saw the possibility for excessive demonstrations on Jan 6 as a great opportunity to tar and feather the hated Trump.

There is nothing that substantiates that the Dem leadership in Congress issued any such orders.

There is also nothing to indicate that anyone in Congress has any operation control over the CP, they only have oversight.

 

Well, getting rid of Pence was always in the closet to do right after they got rid of Trump, but there was zero enough time for that in January 2021.
