The implication behind the demand for reparations is that if blacks had not been oppressed they would be as affluent as whites. T his implication ignores persistent average differences in black and white ability levels and behavior.

Those who blame white racism for black social pathology need to explain why black rates of crime and illegitimacy have risen since the civil rights legislation and the War on Poverty was declared during the 1960's. They need to explain why black academic performance has not improved, despite expensive spending programs like Head Start and No Child Left Behind.

Reparations would be a massive transfer payment from all whites, including poor whites, to all blacks, including rich blacks like Barack Obama. I doubt support for reparations has risen since last June. This is clearly a losing issue for the Democratic Party. The more the Democrats move on this the more they guarantee Republican dominance of American politics. Nevertheless, an important Democrat constituency supports reparations.

The best policy for the Democrats would be to mimic Republican policy on abortion: Republican politicians give occasional rhetoric support for outlawing abortion, but they do nothing of a serious nature to actually outlaw abortion. This has worked for the GOP since the Reagan administration.

 

You are still incorrect and I will back up my statement 100%. More than half the money I take in goes to the government. I started with the state tax. Once you acknowledge that, I have many more items on my list. I am surprised you have doubt considering I am self employed and live in L.A.

Tax rates are available to the public. I can easily defend my statement if you are willing to acknowledge facts. Perhaps you are not self employed and live in a more tax friendly part of the country.

I can understand giving reparations to those who were slaves and to their immediate offspring of one generation or perhaps two. Then how would you determine who is the offspring of slaves to all those blacks who arrived here afterwards?
