The thread is entitled ‘tough questions’. Can Christians face up to my sense that if they kill (by proxy or directly) and eat animals it makes them hypocrites?

Yes indeed, Almighty God inspired Moses to write that, I mean how else would Moses have known that?

    We Read in Scripture:

31 One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there. 32 Terah lived for 205 years[a] and died while still in Haran. Genesis 11:31-32 NLT

    Footnotes
    a. 11:32 Some ancient versions read 145 years; compare 11:26 and 12:4.

6 And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.
7 Then the Lord told him, “I am the Lord who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as your possession.” Genesis 15:6-7 NLT

Thanks for your post trev, I will continue later on to respond to your other comments in the meantime have a wonderful day in the British Isles.

Way to jump ship. The five food groups obviously don't include humans. That said, all of nature is for the good of nature and of man who is at the top of it all. Whether it is a cabbage or an animal, you have to end its progress in life and consume it for your own life. There is nothing wrong with killing and eating an animal. If the wickedness within your own heart and soul precludes you from doing so, then that is your issue, not mine. It is your fear to face or avoid, not mine. Thinking it is mine is akin to baptizing an innocent child because you are a sinner. Doing so changes nothing about yourself but to create the appearance of righteousness, while the rot remains within you. You remain a sinner and the child remains innocent. Nothing is accomplished but the practice of priestcraft. This doesn't even begin to address the habitat destruction and animals killed and gone to waste for everything in your life such as cars, toaster ovens, non animal foods and toilet paper, none of which magically appear on the shelves.

That God his Fathers name is "hallowed" according to our savior Jesus Christ, is name enough for me. In my soul, it invokes reverence and bended knee. This isn't about men or equals, but the very living God our Father who is deserving of all honor and glory.

Your fifth word is the word ‘obviously’.
Nothing in this matter is obvious, especially if somebody is required to invoke faith.
You also state that man is at the ‘top of it all’.
How do you justify such a statement about the hierarchy of life?
There is a good argument to say that the domestic cat is at the ‘top of it all’.
You may be accusing somebody, probably rightly, about habitat destruction and the rest, but that somebody, or me at least, does not say they’re a Christian.
The problem is not the outsider asking questions, but the insider reconciling their own hypocrisy. Who then accuses another of having rot within them!

You don't believe in God. Yet you quote the Bible (wrongly) to justify your eating habits. That is self canceling.

    You are wrong.
You don't know whether I believe in God or a God or not.
As for quoting the Bible to justify eating habits, that seems to be what Christians do, as in thou shalt not kill/murder only applies to humans.
As for 'wrong' quotations, well how many varied translations are there, and how many so called Christian interpreters are out there who arrogantly suggest they know best?
Maybe it is you who declares you live according to the Bible, yet don't, sort of self cancelling wouldn't you say?

    Here you go:

"You shall not partake of the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood. Anyone who partakes of it shall be cut off” (Leviticus 17:13 14).

    Equivocate that one away.

None of you will address the scientific evidence that, apparently, a Jewish Rabbi's body was beamed up through His burial shroud and left a plethora of evidence. We always took it on faith in the many witness's reports that Yeshua arose, defeated Death.
Now you can examine all the tangible evidence in the Divinity of My Lord; the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

Ai was an Egyptian outpost, the Bible says so, and, once they found Ai (using the Bible's description of the battle field) they found a datable Egyptian scarab. My guess is that Egypt claimed Caanan, but held a loose state of vassalage over them, and , according to the Bible, the Egyptians didn't send any forces to help thier vassals. Plus, I don't think the Egyptians lost any sleep over losing such a horrible culture being diminished

Only people like yourself believe that Moses actually existed. He certainly didn't write the first 5 books as some of it is written in a Hebrew language that didn't exist at the time. They are also written by several different scribes.

Those are Priesthood purification ordinances for the Levites. It points towards the future sacrifice of the lamb of God. The unclean and unrepentant shouldn't be given the sacrament of Jesus flesh and blood (bread and wine/water), or it will damn them.

At any rate if you refuse to acknowledge the self evident truth that the Ten Commandments tell them how to treat one another, and that the command to not murder refers to man and not the killing of animals for food. Then I am stumped as the truth simply doesn't matter to you. Again in Leviticus you fixate on words shorn of context to suit your own end or agenda. Like Jesus said, it isn't what we eat that defiles us, but what we speak as we speak our hearts. So that which resides in our hearts goes either to our justification or damnation.

The bottom line is that you cannot live in this world without something dying for you, whether it is a cabbage, a cow, or a tree. So for you to say that this is murder is to condemn yourself by your own judgment. Not to mention the reservoir of pride and unrepentant sins remaining within your self.

Ai had been in ruins long before the mythical Joshua is supposed to have been invading Palestine. Palestine had been ruled by Egypt for centuries. Joshua never existed except in the Bible so the Egyptians had no reason 'to help their vassals'. The whole EXODUS story was made up in the Babylonian exile to give the Hebrews an origin.
Egypt held a tight grip on Palestine and when the tribes, including Israel, rebelled in the 13th century BCE the Egyptians sent an army and quashed the rebellion. As far back as the 13th century BCE Israel were a settled Canaanite tribe who had moved from the coastal area to the Judean hill country.
As to Egypt holding a 'loose state of vassalage over them' you couldn't be more wrong. The Hittites tried to invade Palestine but the Egyptians defended it - their territory - in the greatest known chariot battle in history. The Battle of Kadesh. The Egyptian army of around 20,000 men and 1 man lightweight chariots took on the Hittite army of somewhere around 30,000 to 40,000 heavy 2 man iron chariots. The Battle ended in stalemate as both sides were losing too many men. A peace treaty was signed. The Egyptian peace treaty was found by archeaology on walls in an Egyptian Palace/Temple. In the last century when the Hittite capital was found and excavated the same peace treaty was found on a wall in its ruins. Needless to say both sides claimed victory.

Try reading outside the Bible, you may learn something.

You are mixed up. By your judgment you would be a serial killing hypocrite for the countless things that have to die so that you can live. Not to mention a lifetime of your unrepented sins.

You suggest there is a differential between man and animals, I suggest there is a differential between living creatures and plants.
Animals and men are living creatures.

That's nice to know that you are OK with not knowing the name of the God of Jesus .. but, it is also the word of this God that you do not know .. and thus when you speak of bended knee one must ask .. bended knee to what ? .. You do not bend knee to the word of this God .. as you do not know what the word of this living God is.. and thus .. you do not know this God .. John 1 and the Word was God.

You are not understanding your God Injeun . not understanding that which you profess to be god at least - the God of Jesus - if this truly is the God you worship .. or like some try to hide the God they worship under cloak and vail .. and thus we must ask directly ... is it the God of Jesus to which you bend knee .. or some other God of the Israelites ... Asherah, Baal, Anat, YHWH, Jealous .. or some other God .. such as the God of Cyrus .. the anointed one of "which God" ?? .. or David .. the anointed one of "Which God" ?? Hallowed be thy name

Who is your God Injeun .. is it the God of Jesus .. or Not ? . and do you renounce all other Gods of the Bible in reverence to the hallowed name of The Father. El Shaddai, El Elyon, El Oliun .. we could play one of the find the common denominator games at this point .. or would that be numerator ?

Jesus's words are his Fathers words. So what you read or hear from Jesus is his Father.

Everything that lives is alive. Thou shalt not kill, according to how the words are written, if not designated exclusively to man, then apply to every living thing.

Ding Ding Ding Ding -- a ring a Ding Ding Ding .. forgive my over-excitement but "Weeeee have a winner" !! .. after 20-30 posts .. banging head against countless walls .. but is all worth-while for this kernel of Truth ... that you have spoken.

So -- now when I say to you .. do we follow the God named Jealous of the Israelites .. follow "THE WORD" of Lord Jealous-- and obey her commands .. OR --- Do we follow "The Word" of Jesus --- The God of the Priestly order of Zedek --- or do we follow the God YHWH of the levitical Priesthood .. or was it Aaron .. or both .. the Priesthood of YHWH .. and those commands ..

Which Commands in the Bible do we no longer have to follow is what I am getting at .. which of the these Gods Words and commands do we renounce. ? .. in favor of .. El Elyon .. God Most High .. God named EL -- Most high :) God of honest Abe .. Jacob and Namesake of Isra-EL -- one who struggles with EL .. the God of the Patriarchs .. .. whome after struggling with this Gods builds an alter at Bet EL .. house of EL .. and that is the God EL .. as in place where the name of God Resides .. the God actually lives there God of the Patriarchs is another one of El's epithets .. interestingly enough.. along with El Shaddai - El Oliun .. Head of the Divine Council in Psalm 82 . Chief God in the heavens. .. his many sons .. YHWH among them .. struggling for supremacy on Earth .. the Moabite Stone one such Struggle with the Great God Chemosh .. recorded in both the bible by the losing side and by the Moabites .. the winning side .. YHWH losing that battle .. but not the war..

Sorry friend .. in my excitement I got carried away --- which "God's Word" can we dismiss of the 3 Gods mentioned. EL, YHWH, Jealous

and which "Gods Word" from the NT can we dismiss Jesus, Paul, Lord Martin .. aka minion of the Devil .. not the same guy as "Get behind me Ha Satan" btw.. in case you were wondering ..

Renounce the false Gods por favor ?! !?

Something wonky is afoot -- the "thou shalt not Kill" in the one set of 10 commands -- is not referring to all living things - did not carry the full weight of murder for slaves --- so did not even apply to some humans .. never mind to a goat or fig.

A Fig .. thou shalt not kill a Fig .. hence the fruitarians .. who can only eat something fallen naturally from the tree..

Proves who wrong .. and what wrong .. 1400 date is fine .. just have to work out the 400 years from then to David Taking Jerusalem.. ~ 1000 BC -- which puts Joshua no later than say 1200 -1250 .. has to be during the bronze age collapse when Joshua would be able to get much past the river into land of Canaan prior to this time. and this is problematic as this puts at least 150 years between Moses and Joshua. .. so we have to assume that this was a chronological thing .. that Moses came out of Egypt .and there was more than 40 years wandering and assimilating with the other Nomads in a mass wave out of Egypt when the Hykso's lost power .. so this whole out of Egypt thing happening over a longer period .. the various Nomadic Semetic tribes doing their thing .. with the Canaanites because remember every one is a canaanite for the most part .. the Israelites just a different branch of the same tree.. and they assimilate these peoples among the nomadic tribes who .. over 150 years of evolution .. become very strong via a global political and climactic twist of fate .. are the dominant power in the region primarily due to a massive power vacuum created by external conditions.. Thus ensues the period from Joshua to David .. very cool time in history for the nomadic tribes of Canaan.

If you eat a banana you’re not killing the banana tree.
Plants and living creatures are different, ask God to help you to understand that.

You are killing its offspring. If you eat a cow, you aren't killing the source of cattle, only that one cow. If you spray a weed growing thru a crack in your patio, you are killing that weed, but not all weeds. If you cut down some trees to build your house, you aren't killing the forest, only the trees you need. But you are indeed killing them. Yes there is a difference between every kind of living thing. And man is most unique among them all.

Mankind ate every Dodo, and Easter island was deserted because mankind ate all the fowl and pigs living there.
Anyway, at least you acknowledge as a thou shalt not kill kind of guy, that cows get killed, very often by those purporting to be Christians supposedly believing in the Commandments but not living according to them.

What do you mean only that one cow? That cow was likely beloved by it’s mother.
