As I stated before, a big factor in this is that the trial took place in the Eastern District of New York (mainly includes Long Island). Apparently much of the population in that region are too much dolts to understand the freedom of speech implications, or care. The majority of the population in that area also hates Trump, so I have no doubt that biased the outcome of the trial as well. (I mean not just because they could think it might have affected the election, but because they're happy to see a Trump supporter go to prison)

Well the conviction is one part of it. But trying a guy who lives and posted in Florida in Brooklyn shows that there was serious forum shopping to get a conviction. But even by bringing the case shows the Justice Department is off it's gourd and a dangerous threat to the bill of rights.

Similar to the case against Julian Assange. The Justice Department is trying to turn an internet publisher into a spy.

No, he simply cares nothing for the Constitution and is perfectly fine with lawfare.

I'm sorry but if you're stupid enough to fall for something like this, you're just too damn stupid to be allowed to vote.

So if this makes him guilty how come the politicians who are running don't get prosecuted for the same thing for telling blatant lies?

By the very same measure that is also interfering in an election

everyone should know this is a crime, I doubt he will get 10 years, but he could get time

meanwhile the right gave a hand slap to people voting for dead people that voted for Trump

I thought you were all about free speech? You're okay with the politicians supporting Hamas.

So you think she should go to prison too?

But of course we know she'll never be charged, let alone inprisoned.

looks illegal to me, he still won, but I think she could be charged - I would be ok with a 6 month to year sentence

The man ended up being sentenced to 7 months in prison.

    sources:
Man Who Spread Misinformation on Trump's Behalf Sentenced to 7 Months, Colin Moynihan, The New York Times, October 18, 2023
Trump supporter sentenced to 7 months after tweeting false voting ads, Praveena Somasundaram, The Washington Post, October 20, 2023

    Unbelievable.

But remember in another thread the same poster you are talking to told us that it's free speech for United States politicians to support Hamas.

There is nothing inconsistent about that. The left does support free speech...to deliver the societally correct talking points.

Lol! That's not what happened, and more to the point, you know it. This is simply friends/enemies, and you know what side you're on.

That's false, but more to the point, I gave an example of your side doing that in #35, and nothing at all happened to her. Why do you think that is?

And yet the judge considers it a slippery slope to not do anything about it. I wonder who is right?

because he still won.... people mostly report this stuff when they lose

not only that, this recent case was much more than just someone making a meme

it's definitely a crime though... just cause someone got away with it once. doesn't mean you should try it

    it's always been a crime

reposting such a meme may be tricky area vs creating the meme, but both are technically a crime
