Yeah, I don't get it either. "The president has acted in a historically fast and unprecedented response level." He declared the virus a national medical emergency, closed flights to non-US citizens flying back from China, and instituted quarantine procedures. All of this, Trump did one month before even one US death had occurred. Then Trump closed flights from infected Europe, and later declared a US national emergency when we only had about 40 US deaths.

I'd like to know exactly, how in the hell was any of what trump did "grossly inaccurate?" Sounds like rapid TDS to me.

Given that most of the deaths from the Chinese Coronavirus Pandemic result from pneumonia chloroquine should have been in the medicine cabinets of the high risk population weeks ago.

I am going to go out on a limb here:

In not many days the prevailing questions are going to be these: Does the USA have sufficient manufacturing capability to make this anti-malaria drug and this antibiotic in the quantities that we will need for Wuhan virus?

    - AND -

Does China control this manufacturing capacity also?

I'm not sure of those answers.

What I will say, is that our nation might want to look back on this and make decisions as to whether or not it's in the national interest, that we do not export so much manufacturing of essential life saving products in the hands of other nations. We don't want to run into a national emergency like this, and have other nations, which are not our trusted allies, like China, will be able to cut off our supplies, just cuz they can.

    Fake news abounds.

Ignore the crackpot ravings of self-promoting politicians, and heed the pronouncements of legitimate medical authorities.

The "grossly inacurate" comes from Trump having given not one single briefing where clearly false information about COVID was promoted as truth.

As for speed, we have one way to combat this virus - physical separation. And, we still have Republican governors who remain unconvinced by Trump. How much effort is Trump putting into this one real tool we have if he can't even convince those in his own party?

And, he has failed to work on problems like tests,, PPE, ventilators, hospital space, etc., etc. He finally signed the Defense Production Act at the insistence of governors, then tweted that he wasn't going to use it!

We still need large numbers of ventilators, masks, tests (since most people can't even get tested when they show up at hospitals with COVID symptoms), hospital space. And, companies making vents are asking for help in identifying levels of need so they know where their product needs to go.

Yet, Trump ordered Pence to refuse to talk to my governor because he wasn't "appreciative" enough!!

When reporters recently asked Trump what it was that he most wants, he stated "appreciation"!!!!

This drug and its associated theoretically drugs have already been tested for SARS and flu, all seemed to be touted "potential breakthrough cures" because they seemed to kill the virus in a test tube!

Along with 50,000 other chemicals! While this drug did kill users sometimes, mot many if it was a low dose!

Oh boy! Gimme a hundred! Oh, its $177 ? That is higher than Trump and Fox News claimed! And the antibiotics in the brew, who had alreadyrisen 5 time since Trump took off have gotten more expensive too! And the other drugs in the cocktale, whose ingredients are all secret, have risen in price?

That's ok! A $1000 + is the price? No problem, I have insurance! My insurance won't pay for a cure that hasn't cured anyone?

We need to bring manufacturing of critical items back to America. This would provide blue collar jobs and help the economy recover.

This makes no sense to me.

It's a case of government directing the economicly sound decisions made by corporations.

Building highly technical manufacturing facilities in the US is costly and takes time - time we don't have in many cases. And, in the long run those corporations are STILL going to do what capitalism directs.

It may help for the government to work with existing domestic facilities to temporarily boost their production. But "bring back to America" is something quite different.

We need to pay more for critical items. China threatened to cut off the Malaria drugs to the US. That is unacceptable.

China is our Red Communist rotten enemy. Whatever it takes to deprive them, and enrich the USA, that do.

Americans who used to work in the US pharmaceutical industry used to even work in my state of MS until a couple of decades ago.

    Phone mfg. gone
    Shoe mfg. gone
    Textile mfg. gone
    Clothing mfg. gone
    Appliance mfg. gone
    Commercial ships almost gone
Auto parts mfg. going going gone
    Medical device mfg. going
    Automobile mfg. going
    Electronics mfg. going going gone
    Heavy Industry going going gone
    Pharmaceuticals going going gone

    ad infinitum

If you have a better question, just go ahead and ask it.

There are many many items that can be considered critical. And, the problem today is that we had no plan.

There really isn't a scenario in which we would have enough ventilators and masks without a national plan. Hospitals are businesses running under capitalism. They can't afford to stockpile the supplies they need for some worsts case scenario like we're experiencing. And, our manufacturers can't do that, either.

So after Obama went through the H1N1 Swine flu in 2009, Obama dropped the ball and left a mess for the next guy.

How many specific instances has the capitalist system left us high and abandoned as our businessmen, heavily Republican particularly their God President Reagan as our businessman had our capital, technology, abilities moved all of that to China for China to make their power and growth make our business growth and new technologies be taken by China with 100% cooperation of our largest and smallest business.

Now these posts from right wing businesses are demanding "We need to bring manufacturing of critical items back to America. This would provide blue collar jobs and help the economy recover." Lol!

Go to make that happen by wishes and fishes? Sounds Socialist as hell to me to force businessmen to do business in the USA!

Going to enact regulations to require businesses to operate in the USA at higher prices? Gee, Trump has been cutting every regulation he can cut to let businessman build any kind of poison, American supplies to be taken away to be used in China or Russia to make tge money for themselves!

Trumps regulatiobs to take away everything he could in order to allow China to be designed and sold overseas to the USA which cuts out the heart of any hope to have some hope to have American labor and regulations to compete against China or anyone else!

Thanks, Republicans! Your policies has done everything you can to sabotage American workers and businesses from being competitive and hood for America!

"In the week ending on October 10, 2009, approximately 60 individuals died with laboratory confirmed H1N1 infection."
    http://www.centerforhealthsecurity....ssue-Briefs/2009-10-22-H1N1-update_cases.html

Now compare that to Coronavirus deaths - Last 7 days number of deaths from Coronavirus in excess of 4000 compared to 60 deaths in 7 days and being 6 months after first death from swine flu.

What was your reaction when Obama reacted to those figures? When should have Obama declared a national emergency?

The pharmaceutical companies started to move off shore in 2007 when the Democrats took over Congress because they knew the Democrats oppressive taxes and regulations would stifle their companies.
