Actually 6gunner made the claim. He said they have low gun deaths. They do not....only low gun homicides
No, they have low gun deaths; even suicide rates are relatively low, your claims notwithstanding. Either way suicide is a personal choice that should never be used as a rationale for infringing upon the rights of American citizens.
Already presented and you ignored it. That problem is yours; not mine. Again, suicide is a personal choice that should never be used as a rationale for infringing upon the rights of American citizens.
We lock people up who are suicidal....the ultimate infringement of rights. Gun control should be part of that
If the person can be proven to be suicidal through due process that is one thing. Blanket laws that infringe upon the rights of those who have committed no crime are not acceptable nor justifiable.
And that reality should outrage all Americans. Our rights are being trampled by an out-of-control government that pays lip-service to the Constitution even as it walks all over it. Accepting such without protest is an act of intellectual and political cowardice.
I never see you speak out against passports, searches at the airport or courthouse, and a wide variety of other laws designed to PREVENT crimes
That's a lie and you know it. You and I have discussed those specific issues and I have made my opinions well known. Just a day or so ago you and I talked about my refusal to use air travel because I refuse to accept what I feel are unconstitutional infringements against my right to privacy. So, you can throw that little nugget of falsehood right out the window. Laws that infringe upon the rights of those who have committed no crime have no place in a free society.
That's your problem "dude." I live in the real world, and there is nowhere I need to go I can't get to by driving.
It is, actually. I tend to prefer driving anyway; you get to see more of our great country that way. The only flights I've taken in the last 10 years were all private charters where I was actually being paid to take the trip... and I didn't have to go through the unconstitutional TSA gauntlets.
You have no desire to go somewhere outside of North America? My wife and I have quite a bucket list of places we'd like to see...New Zealand, Austria, Africa for a safari, Greece to name a few.
I've been to many such places through the work I've done, and I can certainly see the appeal of visiting. New Zealand is spectacular, and I have stood at Thermopylae and felt the weight of history there, and in other places. However, as I have already checked off such "bucket list" experiences I find myself ever more comfortable in my decision to not travel unless it is on my own terms.
Fair enough. Good you've had those experiences. I can't imagine never traveling outside of the US. There's a great big world out there that's worth seeing.
True...people who live a boring life thinking their little world is the be all end all. Versus those who realize there is a world outside of where they live and want to experience it. Couldn't agree more with you
More accurately, if one views the world as being filled with nothing but corruption, suffering, and illness, they will not see any location as worth visiting or residing within. It all comes down to how much hope and optimism one possesses as opposed to cynicism.
I agree, and I do recommend that if you have not been able to visit other parts of the world you should definitely pursue the experience. It is always good to pursue expansion of one's horizons. It can be easy, or convenient to let yourself become locked into one place; I shake my head to know there are people who have never traveled beyond even the neighborhood within which they were born and raised. Standing someplace like, say, the great Coliseum in Rome, or the Acropolis in Athens, and to feel the astonishing weight of history intrinsic to those stone walls, is life-altering.
I suppose one can choose to live such a cynical life that it prevents them from actually living their life.
How does one actually go about possessing optimism? Such is not understood. In a world filled with so much suffering being inflicted on what claims to be the greatest, most intelligent species alive, how does one manage to see the good through all of the misery that is so prevalent everywhere one may look?
