Bullshit. You know those numbers are not disclosed. The total contributions to these down the ballot races are historically very small. A million dollars, which nothing to Soros, who is a multibillionaire, can turn these races very easily. If Soros backs a Black candidate in a minority district, it’s a slam dunk. Soros switched his political contributions for exactly that reason.

And yea, I’ll say it. As a foreigner, you don’t have to live with Soros’ political influence. You can enjoy his far left policies, which you adore, and not have to live with the consequences. I’ll never understand why progressives find criminals, even violent criminals, so attractive.

~ If Trump continues the previous administration position on sending money to fund foreign "wars" in other countries ( Israel / Ukraine ) he himself may be frozen out by his own MAGA supporters ...

For starters, your opinion is not informed. It is the typical partisan hack job nonsense that has perpetuated American politics since the 1980s and has gotten worse. BTW, I never said you need to be a lawyer. I said you don't work in the law office and do not understand the complexities of the argument you are making. Juat making a simple partisan fallacious argument.

Let's get some facts first. It's the PAC that funds the campaign with about $1 million towards those DAs it chooses to fund, Soros is not doing this directly, but his PAC does this, along with all the other donations that the DA running for office receives. Furthermore, George Soros is not doing anything exceptional than what Musk and every other billionaire do to fund campaigns, all with the Citizens United ruling stating that spending money in unlimited forms by PACs and other similar organizations is a form of free speech.

So, lets look at what certain DAs have done that has irritated you. Part of the issue is the state legislature, like in NY State where certain crimes are no longer prosecuted. The DA must follow that law. They may not like the law, but must follow the law. We can debate in another thread whether that law is good or not, but not the point here. Law is the law. Other DAs, like in Dallas County Texas have stated that they will no longer prosecute minor, aka misdemeanor theft claims. He gave his reasons and other Texas counties have done the same. The main issue is there are not enough courts and judges to timely prosecute these offenders who may serve county jail time, be fined, and be on probation. The number of judges and courts are a state legislature problem and they are not willing to increase the number of county courts at law, district courts, etc anytime soon. The Texas State Legislature has other "priorities.

Now, let's look at the reasons why certain DAs are choosing not to prosecute crimes that are not affected by state legislatures, like in NY. For starters, prosecutors have broad discretionary powers to either prosecute or not prosecute. The reasons may vary from not having enough evidence to warrant a conviction to simply a policy where one has to manage limited resources for the office. In other words, even getting arrested will not automatically warrant a trial or conviction. But other reasons may include, from my second link, where research from the Quarterly Journal of Economics that those who are arrested for certain minor offenses and not charges are less likely to face criminal complaints in the future. In other words, over the long haul, it may reduce crime. The study was conducted in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, and included marginal defendants. Marginal defendants are those defendants whose offenses straddle between prosecution and nonprosecution. From the link, it says,"Of the cases studied, 1 in 5 were not prosecuted. Of those that were prosecuted, nearly 3 out of 4 ended without criminal convictions." Thus, there is no guarantee that once a person is charged, a conviction, even with a trial, may not result in a conviction of that charge. furthermore, in certain states, like Kentucky, California, New York, and New Mexico, an arrest may not yield on the background check, unlike in all the other states. We see this in Ohio with its drug courts which can have their cases expunged from the record if they complete the program. This is a hybrid of not nor prosecuting an individual for a minor drug offense but increasing the chance of successful rehabilitation. When not prosecuting, these are primarily for first-time offenders by the DA's office, like in my state. Thus, the reasons for not prosecuting minor offenses has nothing to do with who is funding or not funding a particular candidate, but about a reasoned approach to not prosecute given specific facts of the case where a conviction may not even occur.

If you would notice, it is the pacs that fund the DA campaign, not the person itself. The reason for this is Citizens United which pretty much said that political contributions is a form of free speech. Soros is doing nothing illegal or immoral than any other billionaire that has a pac. And that is not the true reason for the desire. The reasons may vary from managing the allocation of resources to providing a greater chance of rehabilitation. Look at Ohio for Christ's sake with its drug court program. This link shows why certain DAs are not prosecuting minor offenses that the state legislature has not decided on, aka NY state for instance.

BTW, one other point, if you take politics out of the equation, is there a difference between Musk funding a Pac or George Soros?

The MAGA supporters are going to follow trump no matter where he goes. Trump has already shifted his stance, somewhat, on the Ukraine issue. With Israel, Trump will probably allow Israel to strike deep in the heart of Iran if Netanyahu chooses too, among the Gaza situation and so forth. What his supporters and Trump don't realize is that the Abraham Accords are dead now, and have been since October 7, 2023 by Hamas attacks.

Are you arguing that because Soros is donating to causes he believes in, he should not be allowed to? Is that any different than what Musk is doing, or any other billionaire out there. I have two Texas billionaires who are funding Christian Nationalist causes. Some billionaires fund white nationalist causes. And so forth. It is not the case that you are complaining about, but the fact that the Supreme Court, a conservative Supreme Court allowed this since political donations are considered free speech.

Look I agree that political contributions, all of them, along with the public information by PAC should be disclosed, all of them from conservative to liberal. I also think that dark money that is funneled into 501c4 organizations should be stopped and/or disclosed. But you guys put a stop to that in 2013 when the IRS was looking into that situation because you didn't want your "dirty little secrets" to be put into the public.

I have never met the guy so I have a neutral position much like I have a neutral position on Elon Musk personally as well.

I have met a couple of turds in my lifetime. You are not among them BTW. To make that position, one must personally meet and interact with a person to get that conclusion.

I think that about most politicians, but not Trump. If he were in it for himself, he would have retired rather than endure what has endured. He doesn't need more power and influence or money. He is genuinely motivated to fix problems with the federal government and federal government is America's number one problem. If the congress doesn't cooperate he will take the case to the people and we already know what the people want.

    You're first mistake
He's in it to avoid jail.
People with money and power always want more power and money
No, he's not. He doesn't give a crap about the federal government.
Congress doesn't have to do what he says. That's not how it works.

Hitler was a lot of things, but none of us met the guy. A few Americans have when dealing with him. Even Neville Chamberlain thought the guy was very personable, among other things while trying not to relive the horrors of WW1 trench warfare. Even Goring was an entertaining fellow according to some. Same with Al Capone. And others.

Point is politics is politics. We can agree or disagree on specific issues that a person takes. I personally met Ronald Reagan, Bob Dole, Henry B Gonzalez, GWB, GHWB, and a whole bunch of others in my lifetime and none of them were "turds" either. I would agree or disagree with the specific policies that they decided on and that is the extent of it.

They have to do what their constituents say or risk losing a future election. That's how it works.

Trump has to get several dozen of the Republican House caucus to raise the debt limit if he wants his tax cuts. I don't think they care about Trump--or trust him to cut spending. If he wants his tax cuts, Trump may have to cut entitlements, the real end sought by the several dozen GOP Representatives who refuse to raise the debt limit.

I'll give odds that Democrats will leave Trump twisting in the wind on the debt ceiling to stop him from giving still more tax cuts to high income folks.
Reminds me of the political cartoon...

If someone had told me 40 years ago we'd have a guy like Trump as President, I wouldn't have believed them.

January 20, 1989--multiple-choice question about the future...

Which will be true on January 20, 2026?
    a) Homosexuals will be able to marry.
    b) Marijuana will be legal.
    c) Real Estate Developer Donald Trump will be President.
    d) Women will lose their right to get an abortion.
    e) All of the above
    f) None of the above

The Debt Ceiling will be raised in the Tax Cuts reconciliation act. That is how the Republicans will get on board, including the freedom caucus. The second reconciliation bill will be the proposed spending cuts, which will put conservatives, like the Freedom Caucus in charge of what is being cut. That will include SS and Medicare with Trump shifting towards that goal.

Trump will have to get Republicans to repudiate promises, his included, not to cut social programs.
Medicare and Social Security are very popular programs:

"The poll found that Americans are largely against negative changes to Social Security and Medicare, including cuts to benefits and raising the programs’ eligibility age.
    • 79% of Americans are opposed to reducing the benefits people receive from Social Security.
    • On raising Social Security’s eligibility age from 67 to 70, 75% of Americans were against it.
    • 67% are opposed to increasing premiums for people enrolled in Medicare.
    • On raising Medicare’s eligibility age from 65 to 67, 70% of Americans were against it.
    • The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4%."
    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2023/04/07/social-security-medicare-budget-cuts-poll/11621677002/

Trump will go into the 2026 mid-terms where he's almost sure to lose the House and could lose the Senste ... if he cuts social programs.

the people want the parties to work together, neither far left or far right, and congress shows that

Trump only got 49.80% of the vote, not enough for a mandate
