Those EC's are likely not enforceable, not effective, and not designed to help with the Covid virus effects, probably not legal or binding. Some are just attempts to defund SS and Medicare.

I could fully approve of Trump getting up at the podium and rubbing Democrats' noses in sh!t, and demanding that they and the Republicans in Congress 'lock themselves in a room', and fight this thing through to a compromise conclusion. THAT is a legitimate power of the presidency -- to influence Congress -- but not to usurp power reserved to Congress by the Constitution.

The economy has already gotten twisted and distorted beyond belief! The value of the American Dollar has plunged -- thanks to the rotten, corrupt unilateral actions of the Federal Reserve central bank, and the amount of so-called 'bond-buying', 'printing' of imaginary money, plus shoveling out staggering amounts of 'welfare' money to people who never thought to have SAVINGS to get them through a few months of 'tough times' is bewildering! Just wait until the engine of INFLATION shifts into high gear to suck up all the puddles of government money! Then the little darlings will be howling and bitching for even MORE welfare handouts....

It didn't HAVE to be this way. For all those who can't 'put food on the table', the government should have set up give-away food BANKS, where people could just come and get it -- instead of shoveling money out with reckless abandon. Oh, and now they're getting ready to shovel out another big round of it -- thanks to the Federal Reserve central bank. And all of it done with the explicit blessing of BOTH Democrats and Republicans.

Austerity was tried during the early phases of the Great Depression. There is a time for government to deficit spend to keep the economy from going over a cliff and this shutdown era is that time.

"President Trump Signs 4 Executive Orders On COVID-19 Relief"

That is a false title. Trump did not sign four Executive Orders. He signed 1 EO, plus 3 memos.None which do anything. All are acts of propaganda. All of them carry words saying, in a nutshell, that if the law permits then the department heads of the named departments are to make use of existing funds in certain ways. But in all cases no authority is exercised to use funds outside of how Congress allocated the money.

More B.S. and Propaganda from the Trump regime that could care less about people's needs in the middle of a Pandemic

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-s-executive-orders-spark-confusion-among-businesses-and-state-officials-as-democrats-assail-them-as-unworkable/ar-BB17KPrl
    The Washington Post

Trump’s executive orders spark confusion among businesses and state officials as Democrats assail them as ‘unworkable’

1.Trump on Saturday forged ahead, deferring but not forgiving Americans’ payroll taxes from September 1 until the end of the year. Trump stressed he would seek to make the changes permanent, telling reporters he would try to “terminate” the payroll taxes Americans rack up between September and the end of the year if he is reelected. But experts said that businesses are unlikely to begin deferring tax payments or boosting workers’ checks by next month — or, perhaps, at all. As they await additional guidance from the Trump administration, many are bracing for the gargantuan task of rethinking their payment systems. Federal law also holds companies responsible if the taxes aren’t properly paid to the U.S. Treasury on time. (Employees)They’re not going to give money to the worker because the government is at some point going to come back for it.”

    2. But states would have to contribute $100 a week to each worker’s check, with the federal government putting up the rest. Beyond the legal questions surrounding the maneuver, many states are facing severe budget deficits as they fight the coronavirus, and several economists and lawmakers said governors may be unlikely to sign onto the program. Only out-of-work Americans receiving more than $100 a week in state unemployment insurance are eligible for the federal aid. That means those at the bottom of the income distribution — particularly workers who rely on tips and the self-employed — could see no additional federal benefit at all, said Andy Stettner, an unemployment insurance expert at the Century Foundation.

    3. One of Trump’s other executive orders was aimed at minimizing evictions and foreclosures. But the order does not reinstate a federal eviction moratorium that expired last month. Instead, it calls on the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to “consider” whether it is necessary to temporarily halt evictions. The action fell short of what housing advocates said is needed to keep millions of Americans in their homes.

OK, then tell us, Joseph, exactly what has rescuing 'student loans' got to do with keeping "the economy from going over a cliff"? Nobody put a gun to anybody's head and commanded, "You must go to college"...? If they can't pay for their own higher-education, then why is that the concern of the entire United States?

Next, what possible legal justification can there be for a president to butt into legitimate evictions of tenants for non-payment, and, for foreclosures because of payments that are past the due-date? When did a president, or a government, get to overthrow the rights of PROPERTY OWNERS and LANDLORDS?

And, when did a president get the right to just arbitrarily and unilaterally shut off one of the most important sources of revenue to the entire United States -- PAYROLL TAXES?!

People who have lived their lives with no concern whatever about the possibility that they might suffer reversals in life, and so NEVER SAVED ANY MONEY for 'a rainy day', are just a bunch of irresponsible jerks! Why should the economic fate of all other citizens have to hinge on 'rescuing' these people...?! If they didn't care enough to set aside money for their own 'rescue', why should anyone else have to do it?!

Sounds like for the most part you're against the programs themselves not the executive orders doing what Congress was going to do if they were not dysfunctional.

@Pollycy for the most part I agree with you that a whole lot of Americans are irresponsible and bad with money, and constantly bailing them out and/or supporting them only enables their irresponsibility, and I hate that. It erodes work ethic, enables irresponsibility, and makes a mockery of the people who are doing things right and then end up paying to cover for the irresponsible. But that's probably a topic for another day ;)

I mostly just wanted to add clarification to two of the things you've taken issue with:

Trump's plan is only to defer student loans. It was the Democrats who wanted to forgive them ---- which I don't agree with, and I think it was pretty damn sneaky to try to slip that into the relief bill ---- but Trump only wants to defer them. They will still have to be paid, but they will be deferred without interest thru the end of the year.

Payroll taxes will only be deferred thru the end of the year. Five months. Yes, Trump would like to make that permanent so nobody has to pay back the five months of deferred payroll taxes, but that will take agreement from Congress, and even then it's only five months. The Democrats have twisted this all around to try to scare people, but Trump's current proposal is only FIVE MONTHS of DEFERRED payroll taxes.

The rub is in the details. I saw this on the sunday shows yesterday and did some digging and it was absolutely fascinating what he did here.

The 800 pound gorilla in the room is that he actually did nothing but defer what you have to pay in taxes. Every expert on every sunday show said that you have to pay all of those taxes when you file in april of next year (that could be a devastating amount for MANY). And the political ploy here is that 1. if he wins re-election he "will" actually cut the tax (the experts say that he doesn't have the power to forgive the tax unilaterally) and 2. If he looses, Biden will have to get congress to forgive the tax, or be blamed. This all boils down to the fact that in the EO he isn't actually forgiving the tax, but he is moving funds from the general fund to cover the taxes to SS (or so he says). And with the way the polls are shaping up right now, he wont have to worry bout it, and will blame dems when the economy tanks from this

NOW, the biggest news of all, he actually said he supports permanent cuts to the payroll tax. Which anyone with a brain knows is a backhanded way to defund SS and medicare. That should have been the biggest story on the front page of every web site in the country.

LOL! Let's see of the Democrat party bosses have the guts to go to court to stop Trump's $400/week unemployment extension with a TRO. ;-)

The constitution wasn't the problem, it was we who inherited the framers work, we're to blame. We're far less patriotic and we care far too little about our fellow countrymen that it came to this. Given the dysfunction of Congress, its time to abolish Congress. If its not part of the solution, it's a part of the problem.

If the National D's don't to try and get the $600 they approved, then certainly any number of states will, since they are on the "hook" for 25% of it, which I'm certain beyond any doubt wasn't discussed with any of them beforehand.

Spending other people's money.. Best of luck with that...

You mean like offering to meet in the middle at 2 Trillion between the Dems desire for 3 and the Reps desire for 1? That kind of negotiation? Cause I'm pretty sure they tried that and the Reps said no. Which is the hardliner stance....

Obama effected tax law, independently, and without the approval of the congress. The fact you didn't realize that? Astounding....

Yea, no one is willing to do or say anything, they just want to move their mouths and wait for others to take risk. Even the people who were talking tough early. It's the reality though that politicians wouldn't bat an eye about people's death unless it becomes a topic that gets in the way of their reelection. No politician will step out of this game unless they simply dont care about retaining power.
