Lol Trump says now losers Nancy and Chuck want to make a deal...

So now Schumer and Pelosi want to meet to make a deal. Amazing how it all works, isn’t it. Where have they been for the last 4 weeks when they were “hardliners”, and only wanted BAILOUT MONEY for Democrat run states and cities that are failing badly? They know my phone number!

Nancy and Mnuchin will probably continue talking at some point.

Speaking of 12 year old girls tweeting

    SNIP
"RINO Ben Sasse, who needed my support and endorsement in order to get the Republican nomination for Senate from the GREAT State of Nebraska, has, now that he’s got it (Thank you President T), gone rogue, again," Trump wrote in a tweet.
    ENDSNIP

I knew "Unconstitutional Slop" would get under his paper thin skin...

My thoughts are people need to go back to work. It the human race had been as timid in the past as we are now the human race would never have survived.

The last paragraph is so obvious, but shocking you are the first (I believe) to say it. Trump is not a conservative.

No kidding! We've got people wearing masks to drive their fricking cars and whining like the government is their Mommy. Can you imagine if we'd asked them to get on a ship and go settle the new world? ROFLMAO.

I partly blame welfare. Ok, maybe I largely blame welfare. There's no accountability or personal responsibility for anything anymore, just a lot of waaaahhhhhh government HELP ME I'm a VICTIM :blahblah: Maybe I also blame the lack of education in civics and math. It's like a huge swath of the population thinks "free" is free, like we can just endlessly print money with no impact on anything.

She said Trump is holding a briefing tonight at 5:30 and HE will tell the press who called him.

Its gonna be on the evening news. Guess what that means? :headbang:

    Trump gonna drink their milkshake.

So you think if Trump says Chuck and/or Nancy called him, that actually means it happened?

I'll believe it when either of them reports it, and not before..

At one point, I thought that was an incredibly cool movie, but it just doesn't age well at all. Cannot even sit through it now, after watching it twice back in the day.

This is where I'm torn because on one hand I agree with you but on the other hand I think this is the governments fault and they are obligated to fix it as well.

I've said this hundreds of times before, this arbitrary "minimum wage" or "livable wage" thing is largely based on the arbitrary "American" way of life. Yes most Americans are absolutely terrible with money and are one or missed paychecks away from bankruptcy. Saving for a rainy day is, at the end of the day, YOUR responsibility, yet most Americans "can't afford" to do that largely due to the aforementioned reasons regardless of income level. So yes folks going broke right now if their fault, partially.

The problem here is that this whole ordeal isn't the result of the "free market". These folks' businesses or employers didn't close due to free market forces, they closed because the government MADE THEM. This isn't like your business going bankrupt because your product wasn't marketable enough or something, this was the government basically walking in overnight and saying YOU WILL close your doors and/or your customers are NOT ALLOWED to frequent your establishment starting Monday at midnight. That was the GOVERNMENT who mandated that, not the free market. So since the government waltzed in and decided to close a huge fraction of Americans ability to make money then the government is obligated to help these folks stay afloat.

These folks weren't fired, they didn't "screw up", mommy government came in and MADE THEM close up shop. There are folks out here getting arrested for trying to go to work, that is asinine.

Yes I expect folks to take reasonable personal responsibility for their own lives, however, what I mean is reasonable. You can't exactly plan on entire school districts closing down and you having nowhere for your children to go during the day so you can't work. That sort of thing just flat out doesn't happen and nobody should be expected to have to have "planned" for that. You can't exactly plan for virtually the entire economy to close down overnight, that sort of thing just doesn't actually happen. A full scale foreign military invasion of the US Eastern coast wouldn't have closed down the whole damn economy the way the government did with this virus.

So what are we REASONABLY expecting responsible people to do now? It used to be that you "should" have about 6 months of emergency liquid cash available at your current "way of life" stashed away for emergencies. And that was based on NORMAL unforeseen things happening like you getting fired or medical bills or something. Yeah I get it, most folks don't have anywhere near that but still. But now what we have shown that the government can, at the drop of a dime, shut down the entire country and lay off damn near everybody overnight indefinitely then what should the new "rainy day" emergency fund be for an average American family? Make sure you can pay your mortgage and other bills without a steady income for a year? 2 years? 5? Are we expecting responsible Americans to have tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of liquid cash in savings "just in case" the government pulls this crap again?

Yeah I get it, a whole lot of Americans were screwed the week after businesses closed because they had nothing saved up. But it's been MONTHS now and plenty of folks STILL can't go to work and it's 100% because the government won't LET THEM.

I still goto work full time, do I want my tax dollars paying folks to sit around and not work right now? Hell no, especially in many of these cases where that extra $600 fed check was putting folks OVER what they were making while working. However, whats pissing me off even more than having to work and pay taxes to pay folks who aren't working is the government who created this crap in the first place.

Should the government be interfering with the private transactions of landlords and renters or banks and owners? No. But what is the alternative? The GOVERNMENT won't let people work, so they can't pay rent, so they get put out on the street. Now we have hundreds of thousands of homeless Americans all of a sudden. Now what do we do with those people?

The government shot itself in the foot, they screwed this up and ruined everyones lives and have pretty much run out of ways to unscrew this while remaining within the lines of legality. Open the economy back up and let folks return to normal and we wouldn't have this big of a problem. Yeah A LOT of folks are still going to be screwed because the government completely ruined their business and forced them to close permanently but at least it'll be better than what we are doing now.

What SHOULD be going on right now in Congress is that each one of these knuckleheads needs to be working for free with their entire salaries being lumped into whichever one of these new super expensive relief bills they are trying to push out. They should get the same unemployment checks that their state is sending out to their citizens since they are the ones who mandated we put ourselves in this situation. If the powers at be decide to use their infinite wisdom to close down the country so folks can't get paid then they shouldn't be paid either. But thats a different story.

By definition a conservative believes in a government based on the Constitution. Therefore, anyone who hates the Constitution is not a conservative. We don't seem to have many real conservatives around anymore.

I experience a little twitching when I hear politicians talk about privatizing government agencies. The reason is I have work experience with Federal program budgets. Ronald Reagan's OMB Circular A-76 (over time) tripled the cost of government and introduced massive corruption as always happens with government contracting. Social Security is based on a Ponzi scheme but so many people depend on it now that we cannot turn their fate over the Trump's Wall Street buddies.

They just pulled Trump away from the podium by secret service....

Trump just came back out and said the secret service shot someone who is being taken to the hospital.

What if Covid-19 is a threat to our national security? If it is does the president have the authority to by-pass a congress that can't get anything done to keep this country secured?

    https://www.rand.org/blog/2020/08/is-covid-19-a-national-security-emergency.html

COVID-19 is the greatest threat to the United States to materialize in over a century. To put it into perspective, World War II, which many consider to have been an existential threat, claimed an average of 9,000 American lives per month. The novel coronavirus has, so far, claimed 30,000 American lives per month. And, based on epidemiological models, it is projected that roughly 225,000 Americans will lose their lives to COVID-19 by the end of October—an 8-month death toll that is more than double the total number of Americans killed in all wars since World War II.
