I'm curious what Ukraine's offer for a cease fire would be.

Putin offers truce if Ukraine exits Russian-claimed areas and drops NATO bid. Kyiv rejects it

Russian President Vladimir Putin promised Friday to “immediately” order a cease-fire in Ukraine and start negotiations if Kyiv began withdrawing troops from the four regions annexed by Moscow in 2022 and renounced plans to join NATO. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected what he called an ultimatum by Putin to surrender more territory.

Um....you mean other than obvious, which is to have Russia move their troops back to Russia?

Perhaps some kind of compromise can be cracked in the future, but that 'offer' is borderline absurd.

Since the war is going Russia's way, they are offering positions based on strength. It's up to Ukraine to counteroffer although I think they think they can still win this without negotiations.

Position of strength, yes. I think they will let Russia have something, but obviously not everything they ask for. Similarily Finland embarrassed Russia in 1939 Winter War, but they kew Russia had almost unlimited resources, so they gave them some land, while retaining vast majority of their territory and more importantly their independence from USSR.

Well right now Ukraine doesn't feel it needs to negotiate so Russia will continue to consolidate their hold over the territory they've taken.

Yes, but they might be getting to a point where they will negotiate because even with all the help from the West they can only hold the lines, but not push them back. Russians have laid massive mine fields in the obvious advance points, which killed Ukrainian counter offensive last summer, and that has not changed.

At least publicly, Zelensky has shown no interest. Ukraine has not yet ran out of soldiers.

I would say so. If the war stopped right now, how much Ukrainian territory does Russia hold versus how much Russian territory does Ukraine hold?

okay fine, so if the land and people grab are going so well what's the point of stopping now?

I guess that depends on if you would like the land and people grab to stop or if you want it to continue. I would rather it stop, but you apparently feel differently.

Some of the areas Putin demanded be withdrawn are areas that Russia never even held (not since the SU anyway). That makes it not a serious offer IMO.

A serious offer would be a ceasefire accepting the currently occupied lines, and/or an offer accepting that currently occupied areas be offered in trade.

Of course Kiev would reject this as well, so long as they have unlimited ammo being supplied by the west. The only way Kiev is going to accept any deal is if we incentivize them to by predicating our aid on their acceptance of certain terms. Which is precisely what we should do. We neither can nor should fund this war forever, and Ukraine is going to run out of troops before Russia does.

...why would you want it to stop when it's what you set out to do? What's changed that you want to stop it and why now?

Our foreign policy seems to be resting on the idea that the war can continue forever.

I don't understand your question. I never wanted the war to start. As I recall you've been gung ho for the war since it started. So I know you want it to keep going.

read your own posts....according to you, the war is going Russia's way.....this is a people(?) and a land grab and Russia is grabbing more land......ergo if everything is going so well why negotiate? Has something changed? If so what?

I dunno but my guess is that they want to consolidate their winnings. What's your theory? They are losing and want to stop the war before the Ukrainians get to Moscow?

Presumably because Russia doesnt want all of Ukraine. It wants (as Russia has stated and somewhat achieved now) a buffer zone between itself and NATO. Which also lines up with this most recent offer of cease fire.

    Heh "shill for Putin."

You could have provided a real answer but the level of foreign policy knowledge of the pro war crowd seems to be very thin.

Hopefully for the foreign invaders in their land to exit all their lands. That should be the only outcome.
