…Purdy's Twitter and Instagram bios say "Believer in Christ." His Twitter bio includes a Bible verse, Colossians 3:23, as his profile pic: "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men."

He discussed his faith, in detail, during an August interview with Sports Spectrum, saying he wants to "be able to witness and defend the Christian faith as best as I can."

"My identity is in Jesus," Purdy said.

Purdy recounted a moment at Iowa State when he asked God to forgive him for placing football before his relationship with Christ.

"It was just a great reminder of where my identity is, where it lies," Purdy told the Sports Spectrum Podcast. "And it's in Jesus. And I continue to lean on Him. Again, the next day I didn't go out and throw for 500 yards and was this awesome quarterback, but it was just this peace that I had with Him knowing that, 'Hey, no matter what I'm going to face moving forward during college football, God and Jesus are going to be my identity. And whatever I face, I won't be shaken from it.' I've got a great foundation in Him."

The young man is wise way beyond his years. He knows where both his talent and his inner strength comes from. I’m glad that he is openly sharing this with everyone.

This young man has gone from Mr. irrelevant, the last player picked in last years NFL draft and 3rd strong QB to an NFL championship game QB as a rookie. He so the game he entered late in the 1st quarter and won7 starts since then throwing 16 TD’s and 3 Int’s. His belief and faith in God has been his anchor to keep him from arrogance regarding new fame and kept him steady and not overwhelmed by doing all this as a rookie

It’s great to see one who achieves sudden acclaim and success in the world realize and remember the source of who he is.

Why does God care more about sports competitions than he ever cared about things like slavery, freedom of religion, gay rights, etc.?

Why don't you go ask him instead of the bigoted attacks on the people who have their own beliefs?

So if someone has beliefs I shouldn't criticize them? If you say you actually believe that, you aren't being truthful.

I'm criticizing your obvious bigotry towards the religious or spiritual beliefs of others.

Why does it make you so angry and critical that people have belief that aren't the same as yours?

You can live and let live and you don't even have to believe in religion to believe that

He apparently cares more about NFL football than healing amputees.

The purpose of this forum is to have a discussion with all viewpoints, is it not? No need to call someone with a different viewpoint a bigot. Rather the best approach would probably be to present empirical evidence for supernatural claims. But this never happens. Why?

You never hear athletes crediting their lack of religion for doing things.

I wonder how religious people would react if an athlete credited him not wasting time in church for his achievements.

Could you imagine letting children die from AIDS, Leukemia, war, famine and poverty but being all “hey, let’s help this over-paid athlete score some touchdowns.”

‘I have no doubt that a person’s faith can make them perform better but let’s not get it twisted. The football player ate a placebo. There is nothing to suggest a supernatural being is using his power over nature to win a stupid game.

it’s **** like this that causes me to disrespect religion. If religious people don’t like it, they should stop being stupid

Think of the outrage if an athlete gave credit to the occult for a touchdown. lol

Here are some other common superstitions of athletes. Kyoto Machida needs to get his head checked.

Funny that you people believe everything is an attack on your chosen belief structure but others simply existing is “shoving it in your face”.

It’s fascinating how alike all of you are.

It appears that you have mistaken me for the group that you like to stereotype.

You should probably reevaluate your generalized stereotyping.
