There is an instinct to self-preservation, but many leaders from the Greeks and Romans thru the Japanese nobly committed suicide. Hell, Cleopatra committed suicide. None of 'em were crazy. I just wish more of our cocksure leaders would do it when they f up.

noone on here truely "mourns" Robin Williams (unless one of you is his family or real life personal friend and I'm unaware). Sure, it's facebook cool to "oh woe is me, some celebrity that doesn't have a friggin clue who I am died by (suicide, drug overdose, gunshot, carwreck) I will act like it was my close friend in order to get attention for this unrelated to my life, event" Be sure to write some random quote on a Robini Williams meme to make him look like some great philosopher, (much like people try to make Marylin Monroe out to be this girl who struggled with her weight and was full of virtue, despite sleeping with two Kennedys while they were married.)

Ever see the movie "Braveheart" and see what happened to William Wallace**? Executions were common in the "good old days", but extremely brutal. Better to die by your own hand than to let others take their time doing it for you.

Wallace’s execution in the film, while not entirely inaccurate, is considerably tamed from what was actually done to him. Like many other famous traitors he was Hanged, Drawn and Quartered: a five stage punishment where a person was hanged, cut open to expose his intestines, castrated, chopped into pieces and finally beheaded. Before the execution Wallace was stripped naked and pulled around town by horse-carriage by a rope around his ankles and after the execution dipped in tar.

The film makes note of how Wallace’s body parts and head were put up for public display and sent to “the four corners of England”. This is historically accurate.

What we see in the film is a toned down version of the Hanged, Drawn and Quartered punishment. Wallace is shown hanged and stretched, and though not explicitly shown, it’s indicated that his intestines are taken out. The slicing and castration bits are left out and instead Wallace is beheaded after he screams “Freedom!” one last time. In actuality, Wallace’s last words are unknown.

There is a big difference b/t the WBC cockroaches and the anonymous posters here voicing their opinions about a dead celebrity and all have a choice as to whether we want to read the opinions or not....

The WBC cockroaches were right there, in person, shoving their vile signs in the faces of the deceased soldier's families and shouting their disgusting crap at the families.

    As I said

I think that those who post here to mock those who mourn Robin Williams and to attack Robin Williams are really no different than the Westboro Church members who picked the funerals of the military with signs 'God hates (*)(*)(*)(*)'.

I think the intention is exactly the same.

    - - - Updated - - -

The intent is every bit the same.

Just the ones here do it behind the backs of the grieving families.

"Behind the backs of....." Huh? Don't you think you're getting a little bit melodramatic?

Was this thread about RW's suicide declared sacred ground where those who didn't agree w/the mourning of RW shouldn't say what they think?

WBC attacked close families and friends while at the funeral.... you have never laid real life eyes on the person you claim to be mounring.

I'm not making fun of his family, or pointing out to his family Williams was a coward. I still believe it, but out of respect for them losing a husband and father, I won't show up at the funeral with a sign that says "Williams is burning in Hell right now" or something along those lines.

However, you are not a close friend of Williams, you are not family... you have never met him. You base life value on how public a person is.

Everyone has a right to express their opinion within the rules of PF here. There are those who have expressed their feelings of loss for Robin Williams death, others have recounted stories about Robin Williams, and then there are those who have used this thread to mock those who mourn him, and to attack Robin Williams.

    Everyone expressing their opinion.

Just like I am expressing my opinion.

I think that those who post here to mock those who mourn Robin Williams and to attack Robin Williams are really no different than the Westboro Church members who picked the funerals of the military with signs 'God hates (*)(*)(*)(*)'.

The only difference is that the posters here rationalize it by proclaiming that Williams family will never see their remarks- that since they say it behind their backs, its okay.

Right. It's a mindset I've seen thru out the yrs that I've never understood - the idolatry of celebrities. Presley comes to mind. I can understand it when the person is a teen and they're crazy about a rock star, but when you get into your adulthood....

To put the WBC cockroaches and those of us who don't mourn the death of someone we had never even met in the same sentence is unrealistic. Those pigs set out, in person, to cause as much pain as possible to the family & friends of the deceased and that's why the Patriot Guards motorcycle club were there. The WBC is the epitome of evilness... haven't heard a word about them since Phelps, their leader, died and went to hell.....

Well, to each their own..... I'm one of those who mourns someone who was part of my life and left me w/beautiful memories of us living life together. The worst is having them one day and they're gone the next. Now that's real, genuine, heart-break mourning..... but I guess there are those who would feel that same impact of pain w/the passing of their favorite celebrity..... don't understand it, but oh well! That's ok.

Yep, insanity is not a requirement for suicide. Maybe it is in our 'Christian' culture.

No it is not, but most people who commit suicide are mentally ill. That doesn't necessarily mean the same as "insane" just as being "sick" doesn't necessarily mean "terminally ill".

I was unaware that this thread had a "you must mourn Williams" rule to post in it....

It doesn't, but neither do it have a rule that people who ridicule his death can't be challenged on their lack of decency.

challenge me, IDC.... my value as a human isn't based on if Max Rockatansky thinks I'm bad because I don't faux-mourn someone I never met in my life, and think people that do need a does of reality.

as soon as William's wife, who claims she lost a best friend, but wasn't even staying in the same room with her hubby, is on here, I will offer condolences to her or her kids who lost a father.

but to offer it to someone who wants attention? yeah.... that aint' gonna happen

I am watching a Robin Williams movie I saw years ago when it
hit the theartre. It's - One Hour Photo - { 2002 }. It was a slow if not tediously
snails pace movie. Then it picked up and got really creepy. It was a psychological
movie.A Drama/Thriller.I had a few dreams about the movie over the last few years.
I think there is something there, hidden in the movie that speaks volumns.
Since I am a Technician of Psychoanalysis,I am going to Critique the movie
    here,after watching.Since I purchased at Barnes & Noble a week ago.

That's a bunch of (*)(*)(*)(*). Life isn't always easy but if you find it constantly and unrelentingly hard you're doing something wrong and should seek help. Your attitude is WHY people commit suicide. Sometimes people just get tired of the struggle. Maybe you shouldn't ever do it, but you've got to understand why people sometimes do or you can never help them.

Keep in mind that the most recent info is that Williams had just been told he had Parkinson's and Parkinson's drugs can have a side effect of causing suicidal thoughts. Add to that the fact that he had lifelong depression and, well, I think it obvious that we sometimes expect too much from sufferers we've only armed with stupid "Up With People" platitudes.

Now me, I'd get a Martin Sheen briefcase full of cocaine, 2 really dynamite hookers and stop taking my blood pressure meds. On an off chance I might not even die, just have the Greatest High of All Time.

Not even halfway into the movie and I detect a clue.Robin as Sy the Photo guy
who is the Savmart Photo tech and has a very winning way with the stores select
customers who come to have their photo's developed is now a Stalker.A very
mild mannered stalker who has taken a special interest in a regular customer.
A pretty lady who has a family.
Sy noticed early on a book she had in her large purse. The authors name was
in very large print ... Deepak Chopra { The Path to Love }.
Sy,now a verifiable stalker of that woman and her son, manages to bump into
her at a mall.At the open cafeteria area.Acting like it some coincidence that he
had his lunch tray and was looking for a place to sit down.making himself noticed,
seating right near where she was finishing her lunch. He quickly seized the opportunity
to sit across from her. They exchanged a few pleseantries and as she excused herself,
being in a hurry,Sy sought the opportunity to break out the same book and started to
read. The lady noticed and quickly commented how what a coincidence that was and
how she so liked the book.
Sy turned to a page in the book quoting a sentence he found interesting.
" The things we fear the most have already happened to us . "
There's more to this than meets the obvious.

one day we will all be free..... though some do want to be brainwashed so they can get along in a place called heaven... but that is still their choice that they were free to make

I believe in death with dignity and am thinking of retiring in Oregon so no one can force me to live when the time comes for me to leave this human experience (though I prefer to die in my sleep and never have to make that choice)

Lurking beneath the surface of many an actor are clues, right in the
characters they play in the movies. Not guaranteed, however many a bad guy
character actor are the polar opposite of that character in real life.
One such actor was Dan Duryea. He played mostly bad guys. But in real life
he was a wonderful person and family man.
Whereas, conversely,Errol Flynn played mostly heroic brave types who
are the good guy. When in real Life Flynn was a drunkard, doper and
sex fiend.Who before becoming an actor stole women's jewelry.
He was a jewel thief.Who woulda think.Plus Flynn made all the headlines
in Hollywood when he was accussed of raping a minor.A young gal he
dated {screwed } and didn't much care her real age.Of course it helped to have a
nice size sailing vessel to pull that kinda crap { invite some young chippie and then
take off to some remote island all the while having his way with her }.

I empathize with those that are diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer..... alzheimers.... ALS..... or suffering. I will not empathize or show compassion for people who made bad choices ended up in a place they didn't like so they quit life.

Williams money problem and marital issues were self made problem. I do not feel bad for either because I have faced both and I didn't hang myself. Maybe if you don't want money problems, you quit snorting your money up your nose.
