Over reacting to these situations can be foolhardy........ A measured calculated and well reasoned response is called for.

It IS interesting to watch China begin to rise in a more influential world role ..........and it is very calculating in how it is doing it. China is in no hurry......and plans for generations ahead. It does not operate on the instant gratification principle..........and it has a LONG history behind it with a wealth of knowledge, experience e and wisdom.
Bottom line......fascinating dynamics in play at the moment.. And we are entering a new frontier of world politics/ relationships and dynamics.

No, Mia, what myself, Senator Murkowski and others expected was the bare minimum one expects from our president and C-in-C, and if he doesn't know or want to do what is expected of the POTUS/CinC then he should resign and hand the keys to the Oval Office to someone who does want to fulfill the duties of the POTUS.

It is interesting, and I don't know if we're re-entering a geostrategic space similar to the bipolar power dynamics that existed during the Cold War or entering the new multipolar power world that Samuel Huntington projected in his book The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order back in 1996. What we're seeing in Ukraine and the South China Sea and potentially Taiwan is very much what Huntington anticipated, but the free world is still looking the United States for leadership and backing. Our regional allies haven't quite made the adjustments necessary to ensure their own security in this new multipolar environment and I hope all of this (and more) serves as wake up call to our friends. I, for one, would welcome the U.S. stepping back and reassuming the place it once occupied as a regional power prior to WWI - the cost in blood and treasure of being a global superpower is too high for my liking and it's time for our friends to step up.

Putin is fortunate that Russia is rich in the natural resources that China needs, but as you correctly pointed out he is entertaining delusions of becoming the next Peter the Great, and many Russian men and their families have paid and are going to pay the price for his revanchism. Unless the Ukrainians turn things around over the course of the next year I expect this to be a long, bloody war of attrition that will drag out for years. It may very well take Putin's death or incapacitation to end this conflict, and at 70 years old that could be quite some time.

 

Please. You and your gang of pro-pooteen commie lovers have been predicting the end of combat ops with a stunning soviet (sic) victory any second for more than a year now, and have been wrong every time. Even your one little post about 19-year-old soldiers (hey, I was one of those, too, and at 18 and 20, as well!) was a year old. War has always been a young mans game, as is any sporting event... By the time you are 30 you are washed up unless you've managed to get yourself into a senior NCO or O-3 (but preferably O-4) in the Officer Corps.

The old guys do the planning, while the young NCOs and junior officers, all under 30 themselves, do the heavy lifting, but one major difference between the West and the dirty commie bastards is that we have a serious and functional NCO Corps, that could run the whole shooting match. I joke with some ex-Officer friends of mine that what the NCOs should do is get their orders from the guys with the gold stripes (i.e. the Officers), send them to go drink wine in their dress blues in the mess hall, and they can take the E1-3s out to blow $hit up and kill people. From my seat in the peanut gallery it seems as though Ukraine bought in on that idea long before pooteen and his band of thugs invaded for no justifiable reason, which is largely responsible for their progress against the largely conscripted 'military' (if it even deserves that title) that pooteen has fielded.

I think running out of munitions for them is a real and serious concern, at least as one guy above said, the good stuff. Anyone can turn a bit of copper, brass, and lead into a projectile, but projectiles stopped winning wars a very long time ago.

And I will concede that Ukraine might have to concede a few acres to get him to ****, but I hope not and I will oppose that until it's time to not oppose it, which damn sure has not yet arrived. The real fun is gonna start when we finally manage to get them some M1s, some real aircraft, HIMARs and other ADA, and hopefully some longer range arty.

I don't want to see them invading russian soil, but attacking legitimate military targets that are feeding, supplying, or remanning dead and injured russian boys are fair game. As are fuel depots, and munition factories and the like.

One thing that is crystal clear at this point is that it is highly unlikely that russia will occupy all of Ukraine, nor does it even have the man or machinery necessary to go into Poland, the Baltics, or Finland, but they did reinforce and strengthen NATO in their effort to push it back, which makes me smile. I'll be smiling even more when Sweden, Finland, and yes, Ukraine are all official members, and I would love to see a line of arty from the northern tip of Finland as far south as the eastern edge of whatever Ukraine ends up looking like when pooteen is defeated, and as far further south as we can go. Not for offensive purposes, but to keep that madman pinned behind his own lines, where he can bang all his women, drive around in his fancy cars, and generally be a prick to 'his' people, at least until they've had enough and depose him, and turn him over to the Hague for war crimes trials, and a death sentence.

Like it or not, that is how this is going to play out, and you guys can come here and cheerlead for your comrade in commie arms, whether you are just fanbois or are getting paid. I suspect the latter, but we all know you wouldn't admit it if it were true, so machts nicht. I suggest you boys report to Moscow for your training, maybe they'll let you pick up a gun from a fallen comrade, and you can lead the great communist revolution all the way to the Atlantic shores and beyond!!!

Finland is already Nato.....just a formality until the summer meeting in Vilnius where it'll be made official. Sweden will follow shortly after....Ukraine will be eventually.....sooner hopefully than later.

The "giving up a few acres" isn't tenable considering occupied areas aren't interested in any "Russki Mir" and it's evident of that. A lot will be riding on the upcoming offensive by the UAF and how much territory can/will be recovered.....if it's significant.....Crimea liberation may be a go....if any area is to be ceded theoretically.....then the condition after that should be instant Nato membership for Ukraine.
