Note: Bakhmut has a river running through it north to south, the east side of the river is mostly abandoned and quickly falling under Russian control (Of which they already claim to and analysts maps show they have mostly taken).

    1) I have been noticing accelerated advancement in and around the city in the past week so it seems Bakhmut will soon fall under Russian control as Ukraine completes it withdraw from the city. Wagner seems to be used as shock troops so no telling where they will be transferred in a month once regular Russian troops enter the city and they complete security and cleansing operations of Bakmut in Donbas region.

    2) Also worth to note that evacuations are being ordered in Kupiansk in the Krarkiv region of Ukraine. So Ukraine must have intelligence of a possible attack there soon.

    3) Possible Ukrainian border crossing attack into Russian villages also reported on 03/02/23

Bakhmut has been described as the linchpin for the Ukrainian defense line on Donbas. Will be interesting to see how its loss is spun. And, where will the Ukros regroup at?

Ukraine is already regrouping in Chasiv Yar west of the city. This is smaller city and kinda a suburb of Bakhmut though.

They will also regroup in the Kramatorsk/Slovyansk connected cities, these would be the last two major cities in Donbas that would need to be held to prevent Russia from regaining the Oblast. Kramatorsk/Slovyansk should be heavily fortified fortresses so it will take Russia some time to take them.

-Its taken some time but it looks like Bakhmut defense from Ukraine is in its last days. Being encircled they kinda have to retreat to fight again another day in another city.

-Border attack was apparently by a Russian nationals volunteer group fighting for Ukraine, photo's of the group in the border town have been verified from previous photo's of the group in operation in Ukraine. Could be directed by Ukraine, a rouge action by the group, or a false flag. But the attack seems legit news.

Im just reporting an incident and citing it with a link from an article I read. In the thread you posted about the same topic the corp admits to the incursion.
to show compatriots that there is hope, that free Russian people with weapons in their hands can fight the regime," Russian Volunteer Corps said in a statement.

As I understand it, the terrain west of Bakhmut would be no picnic for the Russians either. Might be the Ukrainians are hoping to continue wearing them down there. I suppose this bloody battle makes sense in that regard, if no other, and only from the Ukrainian perspective. They've been fighting on favorable terrain to wear down an attacking force, which even by itself gives them a natural advantage. They must feel that their losses in this are worth the greater losses on Russia's side, and that the time it is buying them to prepare the next counteroffensive is likewise worthwhile.

I wonder which chunk of territory they'll end up going for next? Or if it might be multiple this time? It should be an interesting spring, summer and fall.

    Hahhaha .....

Bakhmut falls. Maybe the Ukros can get it back with their 2,000 tanks. Oh, wait ..... all those are gone. They're waiting for Leopards and Abrams to be the next game changer.

Eventually, sure. It's just that attacking it would probably be like storming Normandy. I have to expect that the fascists are dug in deep there.

Ukraine has done quite well in a conventional war against a larger adversary, though with plenty of outside support. That said, even if Russia did eventually prevail in the conventional war (not a sure thing at all) it's not like resistance will simply stop. Invading Ukraine was an expensive mistake.

    They're not just "gone" ..... they're destroyed.

Lose 2,000 tanks and most of their crews in order to get a few dozen western tanks ....... Ukro-logic at its finest!!

Don't forget about Russian lend-lease to Ukraine:

How many Russian tanks has Ukraine captured and repurposed?

Ukraine has been capturing heavy weaponry since the war began, which is now over half of its tank fleet according to UK intelligence • Russian allegedly soldiers surrender via Ukrainian hotline

    By JERUSALEM POST STAFF
    Published: OCTOBER 8, 2022 04:51
    Updated: OCTOBER 8, 2022 11:59

The Ukrainian armed forces have likely captured at least 440 Russian Main Battle Tanks and around 650 other armored vehicles, according to UK intelligence.

Moreover, the UK intelligence report claims that at this point, over half of Ukraine’s currently fielded tank fleet potentially consists of captured vehicles.

No one is worried about those tanks. As of now, there is no word on Leopard 2s going to Ukraine. Instead, Europe is scrounging around for Leopard 1s. As for the Abrams, they are months away, at best, from delivery and what few Abrams the Ukros do get won't have the latest armor.
