...not really I don't think...I think Putin simply views the world through a different lens...his world is defined by a narrative curated out of selected historical titbits, conspiracy and self assumed victimhood carefully crafted to fit an end....he's immersed himself in a fantasy world; a sort of Game of Thrones world if you will, where he's acting the part of a Cersei Lannister and where he thinks he's cunningly manipulating the world (as he sees it) into believing that his end is justified and valid. Putin is playing a sort of Czarist role which was crafted for him by some very (in my view) unhinged people thus Putin doesn't view the world in the same way most others do. Putin simply doesn't care about anyone or anything not within the small but close collection of people orbiting his largesse.

Putin is a warning about what can happen when the leader of a major power has a worldview largely constructed of conspiracy theories. Not the first time we have seen this, but apparently we need to be reminded regularly....and even then some people don't pay attention.

With all the money that was being flashed around back in the day it was so easy for all sorts of people and institutions to get caught up in and under the thrall of the oligarchs and the lifestyle they could offer. So Putin is taking new land that formerly belonged to him. Are you willing to give back land you have stolen? Where do we draw the line? Should Jewish ppl give west bank back? These are not Whataboutism, I'm just trying to understand why you believe Russia is unique in it's so called land theft

The land didn't formerly belong to Russia but it's more complicated than that. The people of the land Russia has invaded are split between Russian and Ukrainian.

There is a meeting taking place right now to discuss peace. Russia are not attending. Putin has stated that he would end his side of the war if allowed to keep what they have right now. Obviously that cannot be accepted but does open negotiations.

On day one of this war I posted that the only way I see the war ending is if the land in the region of the Russian/Ukrainian border was declared neutral. That I believe could be the outcome. A million lives could have been saved
