Alas poor Sean, always associated with Bond but loved him in other roles, Highlander, The Hunt for Red October, even Zardoz.

I'm torn on this one. I remember many of his roles fondly, but from what I've seen he was also an unrepentant domestic abuser. Maybe he changed his ways and made amends at some point, though.

I can't tell if you are joking or actually advocating domestic abuse. You don't strike me as the type who usually advocates violent crime.

I grew up watching Hollywood smack both sexes around. Not wife beating. When delivered to help the person get ahold of himself it seems to help.

This wasn't Hollywood. He talked about ACTUALLY smacking ACTUAL women for talking back to him, including his wife. I'm not talking about the screen. I'm talking about real life. There is no excuse for that. If you want to go on record as an apologist for wife beating, be my guess and I'll gladly put you on ignore. I have no time for chauvinist thugs.

One of the greatest actors who ever lived and so much more than James Bond.

I know he retired a long time ago but his movies never do and never will. They will be treasured forever.

    As will he.

Now there will be no more.

    Devastated.

Yeah, he said something about it in a Playboy interview and again in an interview with Barbara Walters . . . in which he not-so-subtly seemed to threaten to slap her. Again, maybe he changed his ways later in life. And I'm not saying people can't appreciate his films even despite this. I want to make that clear.

Hunt for Red October and Entrapment are all time favorites.

I view people who are entertainers, as entertainers. I don't care about their political position, their sexual orientation, or anything other than what I've paid to view, them as entertainers.

That article suggested he was possibly more of his time in this. He was apparently happily married for a long time.

I have trouble buying that. I have members of my family of the same "time" who were better than that and raised their children better than that. HIs first wife, in the very least, accused him of abuse, which he apparently confirmed.

It wouldn't just be the time but also the group of people he was with. I think he came from working class people. It certainly is true that in that time men thought they were superior to women.

A very good friend of mine actually had lunch with Sir Connery about 20 years ago. They talked about cars and hot rods. He said Sean was the coolest guy he ever met.

He wasn't a wife beater. I saw the admission. Your imagination is absurd. Hysterical..

You are in need of.a good smack to stop the hyperbole..

Like Cary Grant did to Hepburn...

I am against actual beating. A firm smack to get attention from a hysterical man or woman isn't . beating.

Run for your safe space. Hot cocoa awaits you.

A "firm smack" for a wife who talks back to you is spousal abuse. It's the action of a knuckle-dragging coward incapable of rational thought or basic human empathy, even for their own partner. Play all the semantics you want and keep advocating chauvinistic violence as much as you want. It isn't okay to hit someone for words you don't like, open palm or not. I'll keep actually loving my wife and you keep cheerleading they criminal thuggery of weak-minded wastes of space that can't rightly be called "men." Maybe you'll even get a safe space where your crimes are accepted.

Sorry, but people who promote spousal abuse go on iggy. And, yes, it is beating even if you do it with an open palm.

How else to shut up a hysterical man or woman?

    Reason? L9l

A smack is not a beating. In this world of micro regression.

What a bunch of girly men sissies.

I get where you are coming from, but that explanation only goes so far in my book. I grew up in a working class family in the rural south where spousal abuse was common. My dad raised me better, but there were plenty of other social influences growing up pushing me that direction, including my peers, the other men in my family, etc. Even my church considered it okay. Hell, as great as my dad was, he still pushed me toward homophobia, but I outgrew that. Racism was the order of the day in school and in church, but I outgrew that.

Once you become an adult, the that's-how-he-was-raised rationale starts to burn out, unless we are dealing with genuine mental illness. He expressed these beliefs as an old man, after having people explain to him how terrible his beliefs were.

Again, he very well could have changed after these interviews, and I don't think it means that people can't enjoy his films. He's the iconic Bond. Hell, Ian Fleming was furious when he heard that Connery had been cast for the role, saying he was a terrible choice to play the character that Fleming had created, but even he changed his mind and even re-wrote the character to be part Scottish. I'm just saying that it's enough for me to be torn. I hope that makes sense.

Real men don't use violence to silence words they don't like just because they know they can get away with it, or even call an argument "hysterical" just because they are tired of dealing with it. Real men reserve violence for self defense and the defense of others. If you can't conceive of a way to be a real man without slapping a woman, then consult a mental health professional -- because, in that case, you are the one suffering from "hysteria". It takes a special kind of weak-minded insecurity in one's own masculinity to resort to that. I'd say I hope there are no women in your life, but I think that's a foregone conclusion. If there are women in your life and you choose to behave this way toward them, then I hope that the other men in their life (you know, real men) offer you an education if you ever resort to the type of spousal abuse you've advocated here.

Sean Connery was outstanding in many of the movies he made throughout his movie career. RIP

For me, I love his performances in The Untouchables, The Hill, A Bridge too Far, The Russia House, and Marnie. There are also a few films with him I didn't like but that's not his fault. His performance was always good.

I've heard the same, but hey, you don't judge the talents of a top-notch tennis player by his driving skills.
Maybe he took his work home with him? The character of James Bond was exceedingly misogynistic.
Are you one of those who says, "No women wants to be smacked"? If so, you'd be wrong. Several of the women I've bedded wanted me to rough them up. I tried it once but my friend, Willie Boy, lost the stiff and there was no "happy ending". I'm a romantic and I'll never understand how a rapist can perform when violence is involved but there are many women (more than you think) who get turned on by it and who even fantasize about being gang-raped.
