"Mr. Trump said it was “not true” that he had been told he would be indicted. But when asked by The New York Times if he had been told he was a target of a federal investigation, Mr. Trump did not respond directly, saying “you have to understand” that he is not in direct touch with prosecutors. This is more of an excuse than anything else. Using this tactic, the GOP is delaying his cross-examination by the opposition party, aka the Democrats. However, if his name is released and he does receive death threats, then it is up to the committee to protect him, including personal physical protection. It is the price he has to pay if he wants to testify in a disposition by both sides.
