When a society is being forced to accept something which goes against their sensibilities and morals, don't expect endearment or even tolerance by the society they are offending. :oldman:

Holding hands is not the same as walk half naked or making sex in the street...

The evil is not homosexuality, the evil is the labeling of anyone opposing their flagrant public excesses as being homophobes. There are some rare homosexuals who are born that way, and there are some who acquired the disorder because of upbringing, but most of them are victims of the society they live in and they deserve our pity. What we do not need though, is to create more victims by making it an acceptable factor in our society...because that is exactly what 'acceptance' does, and this is why nations such as Russia will not allow it.

It amuses me how a country with some of the most effeminate pop stars can have a government so touchy about anything gay.

    It's overcompensation I guess.

Granted, plenty of Americans seem this way as well.

It's good to know there are Russians who see through Putin's cynical facade of pandering to nationalists and theocrats.

Nationalism (and the prejudices that often come with it) is a problem here as well. We've got our share of theocrats too.

Yes, Westerners just love to talk about how great they treat their women and how everyone else 'oppresses' them.

Well, we can't all excuse rape with "cultural practices" or force women to wear beekeeper suits.

Given the prevalence of neo-Nazies there, it wouldn't be surprising if he did.

Thanks. Same to you. :) You just need to get more Russians to post here of your mindset, so that you can drown out the KGB's and sharik's.

This is what I mean. They assume that because women in other societies don't want to dress like the women in their societies, there must be oppression and force going on. It's a very simplistic way of looking at things.

Volition is largely dependent on a lot of things.

Some wear the garments out of choice. Some do it out of fear of what happens if they don't.

If a law forces it or threat of violence from society forces it, then yes, that is oppression.

Doubt that it matters that much. Rape=sexually violating somebody without consent. It is common everywhere, except several countries in th Gulf.

But you are free to try proving othervise.

I don't expect my words to convince you, but perhaps, this report will help to clarify Russia's global standing in women's rights.

    http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_GenderGap_Report_2013.pdf

I'm not suggesting America is at the top either. We're 23rd in the world according to this.

    That's still better than Russia's 61st ranking.

take some courses in juridic it´ll help, Sweden has slightly changed (2 times) definition and we are on the 1 place today, i m 100% sure that a woman in Nigeria has 1 0 000 times more chance to be rape then a woman in STH

That would depend on the situation.

There's plenty of physical abuse here and psychological abuse over there.

What ultimately matters is if the justice system is set up to prosecute offenders effectively.

Judging by the lower ranking of Russia in gender rights, I'd have to assume their justice system is a bit lacking in this regard as compared with ours.

That being said, Sweden is better than the US according to this report.

    Sweden is number 4.

Last time I checked I was talking about rapes per capita. Little to do with some subjective rating with misty criteria.

    The four pillars
The Global Gender Gap Index examines the gap between men and women in four fundamental categories (subindexes): Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival and Political Empowerment. Table 1 displays all four of these subindexes and the 14 different indicators that compose them, along with the sources of data used for each.

Ratio: female labour force participation over male value

Wage equality between women and men for similar work
    (converted to female-over-male ratio)

Ratio: female estimated earned income over male value

Ratio: female legislators, senior officials and managers over
    male value

    Ratio: female professional

Sex ratio at birth (converted to female-over-male ratio)

Ratio: female healthy life expectancy over male value

Ratio: females with seats in parliament over male value

Ratio: females at ministerial level over male value

Ratio: number of years of a female head of state
(last 50 years) over male value

So....if your women are not building their families and go for career insted (thus having high income) , if you have a quotas in Parlament for females, if more females are borned than males you are going to be completelly fine in this rating.

From the general point you only look worse.

    >>>MOD EDIT: INSULT<<<
