You're right that they should not take those statues and the statues mean something to certain people and certain times. The Civil War happened and Robert E. Lee and his statues should remain standing. There will be those that may disagree with me but I don't care what they say. I care what I say and that is my opinion and I will express it.

It is history .. When we saw Islamists tearing down 2000 year old buddha statues in Afghanistan - or ISIS destroying ancient treasures in Syria and Iraq "Because they didn't like what they stood for" - how is this any different. When the thought police are out trying to change history - there is cause for concern - and yes .. that is a canary you hear chirping in the background... in the coal mine of Authoritarianism - using the tool of propaganda to "Manufacture Consent"

Thought just occurred, when did they start associating Hitler's Germany with the name, "Fascism"?
And, of course, what is the True Motive for doing that?
BTW, there is a German movie about Adolph Hitler coming back. It is funny, and thought provoking at the same time. It's on YouTube, Look Who's Back (ER ist weider DA) (English Subtitles) - Full Movie

As for Robert E. Lee, he used to be a sort of hero to me.
That is before I discovered that He sabotaged the South when on His way to attack and seize the main Yankee supply depot, He turned his entire force against a small pack of Yankee soldiers firmly positioned on a well defended ridge.
His Generals all told him to forget these yanks and press onward to the supply depot, which if taken would have paralyzed the yankee war effort. As a result of General Lee's decision, A large portion of his troops and munition was reduced, thus ending the goal of capturing the main Yankee war supply. That is nothing to praise him for.
So taking down his statue is probably a good idea.

As far as I know America and Afghanistan are two different countries. I don't know much about Afghanistan's culture
    Thanks for that info.

Richard Franks, Thanks for the thanks on Robert E. Lee.
We are, perhaps all lacking in an accurate view of Afghanistan.
I once bought a video from the people who took over after the Russians left. They seemed like earnest, sincere guys.
But all the while the fighting against Russians was going on, there was a group of "muhjadin that were kept out of the fighting. They were financed and trained by USA to
take over from the guys who first took over, and they did, with lots of killing.
Finally when the US entered militarily with bogus excuse, a large part of the people who resisted them and then surrendered were arrested and put in an old fortress.
The Yanks promised peace and life for the surrender, but delivered torture and death. Some were locked in truck trailers, driven out in the desert into the hot Sun. Shots were fired
into the trailer where they died of wounds or heat stroke/lack of water. Others were being killed at that fortress; And when they revolted & took over, good ole USA bombed the
old fortress into rubble. Now, does that make a guy proud to be a Yankee?

Thanks for your comments on what you say. Those that live in America should be proud that live in America. There are those that have the Confederate heritage are proud of Robert E. Lee and taking down his statue would be... Well not really worth it. We want to be proud of some of the people before us and what they did to make life a little bit better for us all. We all want better lives and better things and we want our children and their children to have better lives for generations to come. That's the way it should be. Thank you. Have a good day.

Some my ancestors lived in Appomattox, Virginia and my most direct one got kicked out of town after Lee's surrender there.
Yes, I'm happy to live in USA, even though it's getting riskier. Yes, it is life and better life. Thanks for Your reply, Richard.
We are having more good days.
