Do not be so cavalier as to equate Tattoos with creative exercices in art or writing. Tattoo are a branding.One is branding their body with something meant to stay put.Again this goes to how people are raised {brought up}.I was also brought up to never use Lay-a-Way.Because it is a bad idea.The notion of reserving something that one cannot afford.A Home is different as is a car.Those are what's considered necessities. The quality of tattoos in the time of those men were markedly lower than they are now. Even 20 years ago, a quality tattoo is nothing like what it is today. It was like low res color television compared to high-res digital LCDs today. There's a reason tattoos have become more popular: they can look really good if well done. How many political forums did Jack Lond, or Eugene O'Neill post on? Hemingway? Steinbeck? Voltaire? Those guys didn't sit around espousing their opinions on political forums; they were men of action and they wrote. So, if you want us to be like them, set an example and go out and do something other than sit behind a keyboard posting on forums.

some are "intresting" to say the least, I wouldnt get most but I would like to get one. lol this is not one I would get but still different in the sense that its sporting a slick mustach. lol and for the fully bald individual who wants hair on the back of his head. like i said not something most people would get but you have to give them credit for a few things 1. Getting it on their head. lol 2. The artwork looks better then joe blow doodling with a pen.
The rule of thumb is that if it hurts inordinately from a light slap, or it's ticklish, then it's going to be a painful place to get a tattoo. The skin around most of the head is generally not that sensitive. I think the buzzing around the skull might get uncomfortable, however.
Of course it doesn't, and in a generation I think the stigma will be completely gone. There is a cop in my town who has a full sleeve, and evidently is not required to have in covered when in uniform. Tattoos are generally accepted now a days, though there still is some stigma attached to them, I think most people today do not think your automatically a degenerate by having one.
There must be a level of impulsiveness involved with getting a tattoo. Is one really of sound mind to make a decision marking one's body for the remainder of their life? It is not the tattoo itself, I find repellant...it may very well be beautiful artwork...it's the notion of impulsiveness which may extend to other aspects of a person's life...hence it's deemed unprofessional by many who see a visible tattoo on say...a police officer. Imagine yourself 10 or 15 years ago...how about 20 years ago...are you the same person? You've changed, not only physically, but emotionally...maybe politically... Marking one's body at say 19 years of age...with a particular design, may not sit so well with the same person at 40 years of age...how about 60 years of age. "Green Day rocks" may have seemed cool in 1998, but how about in 2028?
Well that is for the person with the tattoo to live with. I have seen many terrible tattoos but I have also seen a lot of beautiful artwork. Choosing a good artist and really taking time to consider the artwork you would like placed on your body are the most important decisions one makes when getting a tattoo. I have this argument with my sister all the time as she has a bunch of terrible artwork all over her body, they are impulse tatts she gets at a party or because she goes on a whim to a pallor most of them are cartoonish and just not good artwork. I am certain she will end up regretting most of them, but its her body not mine. If she weren't my sister I would certainly card her as an idiot for most of her tatts. If someone has nice tatts I do not judge them to be unprofessional right off the bat. I know lots of professional people with them, they are covered when in the office. As far as the cop, it doesn't discredit the gun and handcuffs on his hip.
Green Day will still rock, as does Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Ozzy, Sabbath, and many others. However, if you have a Europe tattoo, you deserve to be looked upon with derision.
I agree with this, Thats why the design I have been wanting I have been holding onto for the last 8 years and looking to still get it. I agree a lot of tattoo work is based on impulse. For isntance my girlfriend got a heart with wings and a crown on her wrist (means something to us.) and her friend had to have ink so she went next day to get a star (purple and black) with butterfly wings o.0
Not necessarily, my comment was based more on impulse control. For some folks, for example Spade mentioned he had put a lot of thought into a tattoo design, clearly it's a well thought out decision...however as is often the case, getting a tattoo is more on a whim..."felt good at the time" sort of decision... In certain jobs, sound judgment and impulse control is important...for example a police officer. A police officer who has an arm full of tattoos, frankly I would question his judgment in other areas also. Being honest, yes a police officer with multiple visible tattoos, I have a problem with.
I'd assume that the ones who would get impulsive tattoos would typically be younger people, more often than not... Simply because younger people are generally more impulsive, on the whole... That's not to say that some older people aren't impulsive, just that, in most cases I've seen, they were younger...
A few months back I did my medical for the PD, out of about 25 guys, almost all of them had tattoos. Some with both sleeves done. I think times are changing. All of my tattoos are have been logged by the PD though.
