House Republicans are signaling they now want to include border legislation in their list of demands for a debt ceiling deal.

Key GOP lawmakers are signaling they want border policies in the mix as congressional leadership and the White House try to negotiate a debt ceiling deal, the day after Republicans passed a sweeping border and immigration bill. It was a GOP wishlist that included restarting construction of the U.S.-Mexico border wall and placing new restrictions on asylum seekers.

“We passed the bill that I think does the job. … And by the way, I think this is now a central part of any debt ceiling or spending debate for the remainder of the year,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said in an interview on Friday.

    Great idea. Complicate negotiations further.

House Freedom Caucus calls on McCarthy to suspend debt ceiling negotiations

The House Freedom Caucus said it’s calling on House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to suspend his negotiation on raising the debt limit with the White House and instead focus on getting the House-passed “Limit, Save, Grow Act” through the Senate.

“There should be no further discussion until the Senate passes the legislation,” a statement from the Republican group said.

The GOP-backed legislation would raise the debt ceiling into next year, slash federal spending by billions of dollars and unwind some of President Biden’s priorities, including his program to cancel college student-loan debt. It was passed in a party-line vote in the House, but is considered a non-starter in the Democratic-led Senate, where it would need to garner at least 60 votes.

There's no question the Crazy wants to see the US government default on its debt.

FBI: Agents testifying on alleged abuses had clearances revoked over security concerns

Two FBI agents who appeared before a House subcommittee Thursday had their security clearances revoked this month over security concerns, according to a letter sent by the FBI to the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday and obtained by The Washington Post.

The letter, signed by FBI acting assistant director Christopher Dunham and addressed to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), the chairman of the committee, came in response to a subpoena from the Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government that sought information regarding the security clearance adjudications of former FBI agent Stephen Friend and Marcus Allen, an FBI agent who is suspended without pay.

Friend and Allen were billed by the committee as whistleblowers and testified Thursday about alleged abuses by the bureau. The agents claimed they were retaliated against for their actions, in part, related to the FBI’s investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Immigration reform, which historically has been blocked by Repubs, should not be linked to the full faith and credit of the USA.

I don't think you appreciate the magnitude of the potential damage the country will incur if the Crazy persists with making demands they have no business making in connection to the debt ceiling.

You are daring to talk about "potential damage to the country"!?

-Half the world is dumping the american dollar
-We are closer to WW3 then we have ever been since the Cuban missile crisis.
    -Inflation has skyrocketed
-The border crisis hasn't been this bad in what? 50 years?
-Racial divide has been brought back to levels not seen since the 90's and it's getting worse
    -Crime has skyrocket
    -We've rediscovered segregation

oh and half this ****ing country can't define the word "woman"

Don't ****ing talk to me like you care about "damage to the country". Can't get your government out of office fast enough.

I was just reading about this particular Jordan Clown Show Hearing (trademarked)

Get THIS exchange when freshman star Dan Goldman tries to explain the rules of the Insurrection Protection Committee to the purported chairman

    SNIP
During this latest hearing pushing the GOP narrative that the FBI is weaponized against conservatives, Jordan told Democrats that “you’re not getting the testimony” of FBI staff operations specialist Marcus Allen, claiming the minority party isn’t entitled to all evidence collected from whistleblowers.

Later in the hearing, after initially being shut down by Jordan, Goldman requested a point of order to state the rules, which he noted required transcripts to be made available to all members of committees.

“Where is the whistleblower exception to the rules?” Goldman wondered.

An animated Jordan said it was the “prerogative of the committee to decide” before adding: “We have the whistleblower testimony. The whistleblower does not wish it to be made available to the Democrats at this time!”

Goldman quickly shot back that “the whistleblower doesn’t make committee rules” before Jordan attempted to move on to another committee member, eventually arguing with Goldman a bit more.

McCarthy says he’ll move contempt charges against FBI director if subpoena deadline is missed

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Tuesday warned he would move contempt charges against FBI Director Christopher Wray if he does not produce a subpoenaed document by that day’s deadline.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) issued a subpoena earlier this month to compel Wray to produce any FD-1023 forms — records of interactions with confidential sources — from June 2020 that contain the word “Biden.”

    https://thehill.com/homenews/402606...-fbi-director-if-subpoena-deadline-is-missed/

Not to say Kevin isn't crazy in his own right, but I feel it's likely he is being pushed by the Crazy to file contempt charges since Wray has already scheduled a meeting to talk with Comer.

The Republican attempt to censure Adam Schiff was a flop
It adds to other GOP failures at political payback this term.

Republican attempts at getting revenge on the Biden administration — and other Democrats — don’t seem to be faring so well these days.

This week, House Republicans had their latest flop in the form of a resolution to censure Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) over his role in pushing an investigation into former President Donald Trump and his 2016 campaign’s potential ties to Russia. In a 225-196 vote, the House voted to table this resolution on Wednesday evening, effectively killing it.

After taking the House majority in the 2022 midterms, Republicans promised expansive investigations into the Biden administration, impeachments, and major changes to how the House is run. While the party successfully removed Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the Foreign Affairs Committee in February, and blocked Schiff and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) from serving on the Intelligence Committee, their other efforts have failed to gain traction. That includes investigations into the business ties of President Joe Biden’s son Hunter, and a stalled push to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Republicans Attack Blinken for China Trip, Threatening Subpoena
Republicans rebuked the secretary of state for visiting China for diplomatic talks as they advocate a hard-line, military-first approach to Beijing.

Leading congressional Republicans excoriated Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on Friday for traveling to China this weekend, accusing him of undermining national security by attempting to normalize diplomatic relations with Beijing as they press for a more hard-line approach.

Representative Michael McCaul, Republican of Texas and the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, threatened to subpoena Mr. Blinken if he failed to produce documents by Friday evening detailing the list of retaliatory actions the U.S. government has considered against China, and when they were applied.

“The Biden administration’s weak actions on the global stage continue to embolden the C.C.P.,” Representative Elise Stefanik of New York, the No. 4 Republican in the House, said in a statement. The secretary of state’s trip, she added, will “legitimize” the Chinese Communist Party’s “continued subversion of our sovereignty.”

McCarthy Pours Cold Water On Boebert’s Biden Impeachment Stunt After Hardliner Rebellion

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) encouraged House Republicans to vote against Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-CO) resolution to force a vote to impeach President Joe Biden this week, just days after Boebert and others in the Freedom Caucus ground legislating to a halt to get even with McCarthy for making a debt ceiling deal with the President, CNN reported.

In a closed door meeting on Wednesday, McCarthy told his caucus that it is not the right time to impeach Biden. He argued that Republicans should let ongoing committee investigations play out before voting on an impeachment article, adding that jumping ahead could threaten their ability to hold onto their slim majority in the next election.

“What majority do we want to be,” McCarthy asked his caucus, according to an individual in the room CNN spoke to. “Give it right back in two years or hold it for a decade and make real change?”

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/...n-impeachment-stunt-after-hardliner-rebellion

Real change? So far all they've done is embarrass themselves with the failed "weaponization" hearings and censure Adam Schiff for being so eloquent is his take downs of Dear Leader.

Some In The House Freedom Caucus Want To Boot Members. MTG Appears To Be A Target

At least two hardliners within the far-right House Freedom Caucus have proposed trying to boot members who no longer meet the group’s standards and discussed the option with Chair Scott Perry (R-PA), according to three Republicans who talked to Politico.

Those who spoke to Politico indicated that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is on the short list of those that the hardliners might want to purge from the group, which has primarily functioned as a Kevin McCarthy obstruction wing for the past six months. But not all members have been fully onboard with the obstruction-ing – which played out most potently in the speakership race and the debt ceiling hostage taking – and tensions within the conservative group have been escalating for some time now.

“The speaker’s race, there was some difference in opinion. The debt ceiling, there were differences of opinion. And we had to get 80 percent on any major issue that we take positions on,” Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) told Politico, referring to the threshold needed for the group to take a unified stance. “On some big issues, we have not been able to get there.”

Never did I think MTG would not be crazy enough for the Crazies. "boot members who no longer meet the group’s standards"

McCarthy backs effort to expunge Trump impeachments

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is throwing his weight behind the conservative effort to expunge the two impeachments of former President Trump, saying Trump’s behavior didn’t rise to a level that merited either punishment, and he would like to eradicate both votes from history.

Leaving the Capitol on Friday ahead of a long holiday recess, the Speaker said he supports erasing the pair of impeachments because, he argued, one “was not based on true facts” and the other was “on the basis of no due process.”

    https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4065002-mccarthy-expunge-trump-impeachments/

Inside the House GOP’s plan to go after FBI and DOJ

House Republicans are taking their fight with the FBI and Justice Department to a new level — weighing punitive steps against both agencies that would have been unfathomable a decade ago.

Half a year into their majority, and with an increasingly restless right flank, the House GOP is ready for a confrontation after a spate of recent decisions it sees as either anti-Trump or pro-Biden. At the top of the list: Hunter Biden’s plea deal with federal investigators and Donald Trump’s indictment over his handling of classified documents.

House GOP conservatives send McCarthy an ultimatum on funding the government

WASHINGTON — A group of 21 House conservatives sent Speaker Kevin McCarthy a letter Monday threatening to vote against government funding legislation unless it meets a series of demands.

The ultimatum from the 21 Republicans, part of an escalating battle over a must-pass bill, highlights the challenges McCarthy, R-Calif., will face in getting government funding legislation through the GOP-led House, particularly a measure that can pass the Democratic-controlled Senate and get President Joe Biden’s signature to become law.

Congress has until Sept. 30 to agree on a bill to fund the government in order to avoid a shutdown.

Republicans Keep Making Every Single Fight About Abortion
The House’s right flank is loading up once-anodyne appropriations bills with riders focused on the culture war and fabricated controversies.

To hear them tell it, House Republicans are solely focused on fiscal conservatism, on undercutting the appropriations levels agreed to in the Kevin McCarthy-Joe Biden debt ceiling law so they can “rein in federal spending.”

That’s what they’d like to be fighting about. But their actions, the riders they’ve larded up these bills with, reveal a different priority: an obsession with fighting battles in the culture war, a fixation on extinguishing any semblance of abortion access in particular, no matter the repeatedly demonstrated political radioactivity of the issue post-Dobbs.

The add-ons are less poison pills and more a poison buffet for Democrats, ensuring that these versions of the bills will never see the light of law. They risk cutting House Republicans out of legislative relevance altogether, shifting the onus to the Senate to write bills that can actually pass. They could create a debt ceiling law redux where the legislation ultimately passes on the backs of mostly Democrats plus the Republicans still willing to play ball. Or they could shut down the government.

Abortion is a losing issue for the POT.

Freedom Caucus Members Who Are Delaying Appropriations Process Downplay Effect Of Shutdowns

House Freedom Caucus loyalist Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) downplayed the seriousness of a possible government shutdown on Tuesday as the House’s far-right flank drags out the appropriations process, threatening to cripple hundreds of thousands of government employees and Americans who receive services from them.

“We should not fear a government shutdown,” Good told reporters during a Freedom Caucus press conference outside the Capitol Tuesday. “Most of what we do up here is bad anyway. Most of what we do up here hurts the American people… Most of the American people won’t even miss it if the government shut down temporarily.”

Much of our government is in Desperate need of a good bit of creative destruction. It is antiquated in both its thinking and it's purpose. Those parts of it that ever had a purpose beyond seizing power from we the people.

Jeffries Calls Out ‘MAGA Republicans,’ ‘Conspiracy Theories’ As McCarthy Changes Tone On Biden Impeachment Inquiry

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) snapped back at MAGA House Republicans’ “conspiracy theories” on Tuesday afternoon, less than a day after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) publicly claimed the ongoing probes into President Joe Biden and his family are “rising to the level of impeachment inquiry.”

When asked about the possibility of a government shutdown as he walked out of the Speaker’s office, Jeffries told reporters: “Democrats are gonna continue to focus on making life better for everyday Americans as opposed to peddling conspiracy theories, which is what the extreme MAGA Republicans have been doing throughout the 118 Congress.”

The Minority Leader’s remark follows McCarthy’s Monday night comments hinting at a likely impeachment inquiry into Biden.

“We’ve only followed where the information has taken us,” McCarthy told Fox News anchor Sean Hannity on Monday. “But Hannity, this is rising to the level of impeachment inquiry, which provides Congress the strongest power to get the rest of the knowledge and information needed.”
