I would have thought you would have mentioned your age and health when you said you were staying in your house. For you that’s the right thing to do but for healthy people it would be stupid.

Is this a new and dangerous pandemic or is this just a different virus strain for the common cold? First of all, it does not seem too serious to me. In the U.S., population 327 million, there are 1500 known cases and 40 deaths. That is a rate of .027% or about the death rate for the common cold.

Yes, there is a severe shortage of test kits, however, Fact Check.org reports, "FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn provided the clearest answer about testing capacity on March 7, when he said that the CDC had shipped enough kits to state and local public health labs to test 75,000 people for COVID-19.

"In addition, more than 1.1 million tests manufactured by Integrated DNA Technologies had been shipped as of March 6 for non-public health labs to use, with another 400,000 possibly shipping by March 9. A separate manufacturer had also produced 640,000 tests that could have shipped as early as March 9, once quality control testing was complete.

“The actual number of tests that have shipped is larger than the number of patients that can be tested,” Hahn explained, noting that the approximately 2.1 million tests from IDT and another company would allow roughly 850,000 Americans to be tested." https://www.factcheck.org/2020/03/the-facts-on-coronavirus-testing/

In light of those numbers, 1500 known cases and 40 deaths, 31 in Seattle-area nursing homes, does not seem all that serious to me.

The U.S. is shutting down the NBA, NHL, MLB, NCAA tournament, Broadway, Disneyland, any gather over 50 people (L.A.) or 1,000 people (many states), and so on. The stock market is tanking, and Americans have lost billions in retirement funds and investment. This leads to one very important question.

Is the cure worst than the disease? Is this all happening because people are afflicted with the common cold, an annual occurrence since the birth of man?

    Sorry, that's two.

The day after Trump's stirring speech to reassure Americans his government is doing all it can to help during this crisis, the Dow plunged 2353 points, and the stock market had it's worst day since the 1987 crash.

Printing money is one of the few remaining bipartisan issues. How can you blame them? As a politician being able to spend without directly raising taxes is utterly irresistible. For both sides.

A lack of test kits should inflate the fatality rate, as deathly sick people are more likely to be tested than those who recover quickly.

Your criminal IMPOTUS was STUPID enough to FIRE the TEAM of people that Obama had set up to deal with this kind of problem given that he was successful in sorting out the H1N1 epidemic.

One AGAIN the Law of Unintended Consequences bit your criminal IMPOTUS on his YUUUUGE orange ass.

He doesn't have a clue what to do and he is more worried about the stock market than We the People.

Furthermore he is INCAPABLE of solving a problem he does NOT understand.

Worth noting that following the Black Death Plague in Europe there was a shortage of Serf labor to work the fields that a great many Nobles depended upon as their main source of income. The DOW could be tanking because the wealthy elite are fearing that their won't be enough wage-slaves available to run their corporations for the duration of this Pandemic.

The criminal IMPOTUS is the epitome of the Arrogance of Ignorance.

His supporters embrace their own identical shortcoming and wear it like it is some kind of "badge of honor"!

    Beyond Sad!

And 2.6%, while higher than the 0.1-0.5 of the Flu is actually pretty damn good for a strain with no vaccine yet. Imagine once we get the vaccine? The President maybe shouldn't have used the word "hoax". "Overhyped" may very well still fit the bill.

A vaccine is a MINIMUM of 18 months away.

    People are dying NOW!

Covid-19 is neither a hoax nor overhyped.

Instead your criminal IMPOTUS is allowing Americans to DIE because he is INCAPABLE of grasping the SERIOUSNESS of this Pandemic.

Apparently his supporters have the same attitude when it comes to screwing over their fellow Americans.

Covid-19 does NOT discriminate when it comes to who it will infect.

Approximately 33 Americans have died. Tragic, yes. But not something I'll lose sleep over. Wake me up when 10,000 Americans have died.

WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET

It has been a very long time since the profession of psychology have declared that Trump is very sick man.

See here (from Psychology Today): Why Is the Trump Presidency of Extreme Psychological Interest? - excerpt:

    'Nuff said? Probably not ...

That is not necessarily a requisite for responding. This is an Open Debate Forum.

    Really - very trite blather.

Do you understand the fundamental psychological differences in the words you employ? It seems that you need a dictionary.

Liberals are not necessarily "self-interested".That is typically the preference of the Rabid-Right. (Aka "illiberal" ...)

    Dictionary definition of "liberal":
    Buy a dictionary, will you ... ?

The concerns are solely focussed on the mortality rate. They are about the rate at which this pandemic ramps up (or doesn't, if measures are taken). It's about slowing down the rate of growth so that hospitals are not overwhelmed. And having a plan in place and communicating it effectively and consistently. China was successful in flattening the growth by taking several steps that are not even being considered here. We have the distinct benefit of being able to learn from what other countries are and are not doing - but we are ignoring their successes and failures. And we have a president who is outright lying about the country's preparedness. (No, I am not taking the easy opportunity to slam Trump and his lying - this has become a big factor in our inability to wrap our minds around the reality of this pandemic.)

But you are more than welcome to sleep through this one.

Those counting on the weather to slow this down might want to think again. They’ve found some data points in the strain that suggest transmission will not slow like they do in the other six.

The point being we don’t know...yet.

Containment zones. You want to imprison people due to illness?

    Wasn't that a movie plot?

Rate of growth of what? Hospitals or (given a Major Plague) the number of deaths?

And if it is a major-plague, pray tell, how do you slow the growth-rate of an illness for which there is NO ANTIDOTE?

A miracle? Because there are not enough hospital-beds to go around if a major part of the population is afflicted. Which is most certainly the case until we see definitive-indications that the plague is subduing itself unilaterally! And for the moment, this one aint!

So, how do you "slow it down" if there is no antidote developed?

    Just wondering ...
