This administration cut funding to this very issue over a year ago and weakened the response. Trump selecting Pence, who is the least favorable to science and who also has a bad track record from when he was governor on a similar health issue, makes it ripe for criticism brought on by this administration's ineptitude and callous disregard to the federal agencies that report to him.

Last year, the USAID program known as PREDICT was shuttered. The initiative was launched in 2009 and designed to improve the “detection and discovery of zoonotic viruses with pandemic potential.” The program is credited with identifying nearly a thousand new zoonotic viruses, which are transmitted between animals and humans, and influencing the response effort currently being employed to combat the coronavirus, which is a zoonotic infection.

Earlier this month, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., sent a letter to the head of USAID asking him to reinstate the program in light of the spread of coronavirus.

“The current deadly viral outbreak and its quick appearance in the United States make clear that PREDICT’s contributions to zoonotic disease surveillance and forecasting must continue,” she wrote. “We simply cannot afford to go backwards and jeopardize the success we’ve seen over the last ten years.”

So as you see, there is reason for the criticism, and in light of this administration's past performance, it is appropriate criticism.

 

Trump sat on Covid-Trump-19 virus CDC warnings for four months before the current pandemic. Masks, and virus tests should have been stockpile four months ago!

There is a time delay of months, weeks, and days before the general public gets news of the administration's activities. So the time delay gives Boss Trump and his mafiosos opportunity to exploit pre-released public information in order to fabricate cover stories of his incompetence and intentional criminal activity. Trump will always have time of fabricate a cover story because he gets to know first if he is busted, and later mumbles "It was a perfect phone call," and "I helped the nice people fly back to America" when most persons didn't know what he was talking about.

 

1: Yes, he PROPOSED cuts. He did not actually cut them as is claimed, in fact funding was increased.

2: As far as PRDICT goes, why the hell do we need ANOTHER program too seek this crap out? What the hell is the CDC and NIH doing?

Between these two agencies they literally cover everything needed to handle Coronavirus and any other that comes along. We don't need a dozen different programs all aimed at the same thing. It's inefficient and wasteful. Keep it all together. It increases efficiency and produces better results.

Besides there's no guarantee that PREDICT would have found Coronavirus before it became the deal that Dems make it out to be. it is. Assuming it would have is like saying that Hillary would have caused WWIII if she had become President. An impossibility to predict since she didn't become President. You can't go back and change the timeline to find out if something would or wouldn't have happened. Also, it came from China and I doubt very seriously that China would allow such a team to go around testing everyone and every thing looking for an unknown virus.

Furthermore are you saying that John Auerbach, president of the nonpartisan Trust for America’s Health is lying when he said that the CDC's response has been excellent and that CDC’s top scientific ranks have remained stable during the past three years? If so then what proof do you have?

 

The people who have a problem with religion don't usually discriminate between R's and D's, mostly because there are tons of religious folks in both parties.

 

Psst….the CDC says not to use masks. The best preventative measure is to wash your hands.

 

I don't have proof of Auerbach's statement one way or the other, but I have seen many in the administration bend over backwards to cover up for Trump's lies, so we do have that as a precedent.

The ONLY reason I can determine for Trump having a news conference (a rare thing these days) about this is because it was affecting Wall Street, and if that were to tank, Trump would have little to defend in November. He realizes he has to look pro-active on this issue.
