    Well, that is simply not true. This has nothing to do with "woke."

    Well, Greg Abbott does and he is a republican. Furthermore, a conservative Oklahoma State Supreme Court ruled that vouchers to private religious schools are unconstitutional. Most private schools are religious. Some have historical roots in religion, especially with Episcopal, Lutheran, and Methodist church denominations in the past.

    But the main issue here is how to improve our educational system. We generally teach "his story" instead of history. We teach the "check the box" routine for students, thus pretty much giving them the answers to the test and only on that test instead of teaching them and then testing them adequately if they learned that material. It used to be memorization in the 80s and 90s until we found out that Asians were better at it than we are. We also have to stop thinking every kid is going to college. And we have to teach kids on what they will do with their lives when they became an adult. I saw that even when I was a senior in college where some people still did not know what to do even though they were getting a BBA degree or a political science degree. STEM degree students know what they want to do, but not the other students, even business students at times. I do think Mike Rowe is partially right that we need money to get that degree. It costs $24k for tuition, room, and board per year for that college, times two, and then you have a job, maybe, at $18 per hour starting. But Mike Rowe does not address that and goes overboard on his assault on higher education in general.

    The other thing is that the single most expenditure within the US Department of Education is student loans and grants. Period. The rest are either grants or other things for programs, such as Head Start, or others with children with disabilities, etc. However, the US Department of Education does not control or dictate to the states what they can and cannot teach. The US Department provides only general guidelines on what constitutes a high school diploma, which was done under Eisenhower in the 1950s. And that was not accreditation, which is done at the state level. For Texas, it is UIL for public and charter schools. There is a plethora of private schools. Most religious schools either use Catholic accreditation or AACS. But there are others. The GOP needs to stop this war on education and allow teachers to teach, and allow real teaching, not indoctrination, like in Florida, to the students.

    You not only got 'sticking to the subject' but a bit of extra education for yourself. Oh well, head in the sand...

    School choice couldn't work though. If the (perceived) best school in an area has space for 50 students but 300 parents want their child to go there, what would you do? A competitive market-style system doesn't work if your aim is a quality education for all children.

    nope, democrats do not want to take money from public schools to fun religious schools, neither do republicans if it's not their religion

    What you tend to ignore is that Public Schools see to have adopted their own brand of "religion". That would be the religion of "moral relativity". In the fifties, sixties and even into the seventies most of those of faith were ok with Public schools. They crossed the line. They fail by teaching a history of revisionism, gender confusion and an emphasis on social engineering.
    Now tax dollars must follow the student. Parents will decide in the free market.

    Some "home schools" participate in co-ops and are pretty effective. Others are just an excuse to keep children at home and isolated. I don't know the best answer to that one. There needs to be accountability.

    Simple....it's a reaction to the wokism in our schools. I would prefer they would react differently, withdraw their kids and go private. That movement is growing and tax dollars should follow. Those intent on "state education" need to clean up their act. Leave "social engineering" to parents and concentrate on fundamentals.

    tax dollars should not support religious schools

    Leave "social engineering\Religion" to parents and concentrate on fundamentals.

    Black students are thriving in red states as blue states fail them

    How to bolster lackluster black student achievement has long perplexed America’s educational institutions.

    Liberals, perhaps operating from good intentions, issued a variety of disastrous policy prescriptions to tackle the vast achievement gap between black and white students. For decades, blue states have flooded urban public schools with more money in the hopes of improving black performance. When that demonstrably failed to work, liberals desperately fought for decades to hold on to deeply unpopular affirmative action policies to cover up the miserable performance of America’s black students. Come on FreshAir, that's low for you. As long as the school is teaching the basic subjects that the Education Dept require, they should be allowed to teach their religion if they so chose. No one is forcing them to go to those schools.Why do you want to control everything?

    For America to hold the Center must hold.

    'Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity

    I Don’t Think They’re Going To Allow Trump To Win

    'We’ll probably see our government become even more tyrannical as they head for the November election. I don’t think they’re going to allow Trump to win. I think Biden - our mad king - will insist he be jailed. If he doesn’t do it, Kamala Harris certainly will.'

    Public schools must publish all their plans, rules, teachers' history, and everything else because they're paid for with taxpayers' dollars. Private schools can lawfully keep everything secret.

    You don't like public schools being big donors to the Democratic Party? Then why doesn't the Republican Party do something to win their support? It's all up to the party. Public schools align themselves with whomever cooperates for educational needs. Private schools align themselves with politicians who help them keep their secrets and reward the people with power. SIMPLE SOLUTION!

    SIMPLE SOLUTION! i, along with most every democrat and lefty and centrist, agree that all schools should offer equal OPPORTUNITIES to students for excellent educations and adequate provisions/supplies. So let's work together to find a way to do that. Private schools certainly won't do it. Public control is needed.

    Huh????? You mean the more money the parents have, the better the education of their child should be???? How about just having laws that manage the question and the problems effectively? Can we not figure out how that could be done?

    Oh stop.

    "SB 744 did not alter or remove the existing and continued requirement, in state law, that Oregonian high school students must obtain at least 24 credits, including in English, mathematics and science classes, in order to get a high school diploma — a less standardized but still substantial form of de facto proof that a given student possesses many of the same basic academic competencies in question."

    I know that and for the first time in our history we have government officials convicting political opponents in kangaroo courts with the objective of keeping them out of office.
