After backing Trump, low-income voters hope he doesn’t slash their benefits

NEW CASTLE, Pennsylvania — Lori Mosura goes to the grocery store on a bicycle because she can’t afford to fix her Ford F-150 truck.

The single mother and her 17-year-old son live in an apartment that is so small she sleeps in the dining room. They receive $1,200 each month in food stamps and Social Security benefits but still come up short. Mosura said she often must decide whether to buy milk or toilet paper.

It was all that penny-pinching that drove the part-time tax consultant to abandon the Democratic Party this fall and vote for Donald Trump. “He is more attuned to the needs of everyone instead of just the rich,” Mosura, 55, said on a recent afternoon. “I think he knows it’s the poor people that got him elected, so I think Trump is going to do more to help us.”

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/12/26/trump-voters-federal-benefits-food/

Dotard is a billionaire who has surrounded himself with billionaires.........and unqualified sex offenders. In his first term his only legislative achievement of note was a tax cut greatly favoring corporations and the rich. He has already walked back the promise Lori cares most about...
Trump says it will be 'hard' to bring down grocery prices, pins hopes on lower energy costs and better supply chains (Supply chain disruption was what caused inflation under Biden. Sounds like an admission.)
    https://www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/trump-says-hard-bring-grocery-prices-down-why-rcna183960
...........while putting two billionaires in charge of examining ways to cut her benefits.

When I see examples of the misguided....

Yes, Inflation Is Going Down. But Here’s Why Prices Aren’t
    https://time.com/7005553/inflation-grocery-prices-rates/

....voting against their self interests it always reminds me of the *********s and the sign about cutting the debt but not touching their SS checks.

If food prices do come down Don will take the credit. If they don't Biden (or anyone but trump) will be blamed.

The wakeup call to Dem's should be, among other things, the POT does better at messaging. Way better. How else to explain trust in an inveterate liar to do something for the poor with nothing in his history to suggest he will?

In the event you have not noticed it, the US has a spending problem. We keep accumulating more debt and the interest is getting dangerously close to being the total tax revenue.

We need to get single purpose spending bills rather than calling a bill a subject such as the Infrastructure bill and then throwing in other expenditures. This makes it difficult to fund essential expenditures such has helping the poor. So, when you are blaming the republicans for starving the poor, take a little responsibility and cut down on the pork which we can get along without.

Actually the headline looks like fake news. None of your non-paywalled sources even comment on it.

and stop with the tax cuts for the rich, go back to the tax rates for the rich under Reagan

the Bush tax cuts for the rich were where the debt started to rise and rise and never stopped, and we have only added to the tax cuts for the rich, the right keep hoping that trickles down, but the rich are just getting richer

What do you consider to be a fair tax rate for the rich? The rich already pay the majority of the taxes.\\
The tax revenue went up when they cut the tax rate. However, the spending went up even more.

remove all the tax cuts for the rich added over the last 25 years, that was pretty good back then and raise the cap on Social Security from 160k to maybe 250k, maybe even 400k, the longer we wait, the more it will take

pre-2000, our debt was looking good, tax cuts for the rich did not help

the Trump tax cuts for the corps, and we still got inflation... cause corps always have to make more than the last year, so taxes only count as good the first year a corp gets them, the next year they still have to make more than the previous year

It's not Trump's fault that prices are high. That's all on Biden and Commiemalla.

True, but then if Trump doesn’t get prices down, as promised, you’ll put the blame on Trump, right?

So what if we blame Trump? What then, vote for the party that created the high prices to begin with?

Tax revenue went up. It would have been even worse if they had the same tax rate as before.

I will give you a personal experience. I was a salaried employee. However, they paid overtime at the same rate as my salary. I could work a nearly unlimited amount of overtime. However, between social security, federal income tax and state income tax, my marginal tax rate was about 40%. I was doing some remodeling around my home. I discovered that I was money ahead to just work the 40 hours a week and spend more time at home doing my own remodeling.

When you raise the marginal income rate, the rich conclude it is not worth the risk to invest their money nor to work harder or longer for more money. The payoff just is not worth it.

Sounds like holding the people on your side accountable is a foreign concept. You should try being objective once in a while.
To answer your question, no you shouldn’t vote for Dems if Trump fails on his promise. Again, just hold him accountable and call his ass out when he fails to follow through on what he said he would do. You know, like you do with the Dems. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If the prez actually had the ability to unilaterally bring down prices Biden would have done so when it became clear inflation would be the deciding factor in the election.

    Hold Trump accountable, how?

I've never called out Democrats for failing to accomplish something I agree with. I've called out Democrats for making things worse and I'll do the same thing with Trump. If Trump policies cause prices to rise, I'll be the first one to admit it.

    See how that works?
