Minors who believe they are transgender and are seeking sex change procedures and drugs “will be protected from the intervention of estranged parents” under a measure Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) signed into law Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.

So shelters are now legally in certain circumstances are allowed to call child services in lieu of parents when a minor utilizes their facilities. The world is definitely coming to an end.

Sounds good to me from just your post. I remember a gay extended family member had a father who was very anti-gay. He wanted to send him away as a teen to learn not to be gay. Thankfully, the mother had custody. Unfortunately, the man and his father have not reconciled many years later.

You pretend this is something being pushed on them. In most cases, though, it's just a part of who they are.

I don't pretend anything. Puberty blockers and IRREVERSIBLE surgery is no jokes. Why PRETEND it isn't?

You were talking about kids not being left alone, but it's the "kids" who are pushing for it. Not parents (obviously not something you can complain about here), not teachers, not doctors, and not liberals. I understand there is some concern about it being "trendy" among kids. Part of the doctor's responsibility is to separate true dysphoria from an angsty kid being trendy.

Yes, some medical treatments are serious. Some diseases are serious too. Dysphoria appears to be a serious disease with a risk of death. So then it is only a matter of whether the diagnosis is correct, and what treatment approach does the most good from the patient's perspective.

You are dangerously incorrect. The same way conversion therapy tells kids they are an abomination and will burn for an eternity, causes more harm than good, telling them they were born deflective and require drugs and surgery to "fix" is even worse.

The image of femininity/masculinity is a social construct and chasing an outer image can never solve the internal issues kids are struggling with.

What is wrong with telling kids they are perfect just the way they are?

I just don't think it's being pushed on them in the way you suggest on a wide scale. Of course the only examples I've personally known, they came to the conclusion on their own and everybody else was either reluctantly accepting (that sucks but you have to be yourself) or not accepting. Very few really wants their kids to be gay or trans - not because they don't love them, but because it will make their lives harder than if they followed a more usual path.

The image they would be chasing was invented by society. A dress and lipstick may be an image of femininity here, while in other parts of the world, an elongated head and neck are considered feminine. Until they are around 25 years old, they don't possess the ability to process information in a way that considers long term consequences. That means that 100% of the decision to permanently alter their body came from the doctor that profits and the parents that get to enjoy their image of wokeness.

What is wrong with telling children that they were born perfect just the way they are?

These kids are minors which means they legally can’t make certain decisions or be held accountable for certain things they do. The parents should be the ONLY people who make decisions for minors with possibly a few exceptions and getting the kid to switch sides is not one of those exceptions.

This tranny explosion is going to harm an entire generation unless it’s stopped. The scary part is what will the little attention seekers and progressive types come up with next?

If they have gender dysphoria, they disagree. And apparently, available evidence suggests affirmation is the most appropriate approach to minimize complications of gender dysphoria.

Whether the doctor profits will depend on the type of practice they are in, and it's an issue for all of medicine. At an HMO, for example, financial well-being of the institution comes from doing less care, so the strategy there is to try to increase the number of healthy patients on the panels, e.g. by promoting labor and delivery to get healthy young families on the plan. But for the doctor, they could be put on salary and incentivized with bonuses to provide quality appropriate care, rather than less or more per se. Aligning incentives is one thing, but liability is another. A doctor who inappropriately provides gender affirming care without adequately evaluating the diagnosis could rightfully be sued.

And yet it has and still does for many transgender.
As with anything. Some may regret later

"They" have zero part in the decision and 100% of the consequences. Adding medical doctors, lawyers, and priests can only make things worse. This is nothing more than adults imposing their beliefs on those incapable of making ling term decisions. Suing the doctor won't reattach their breasts/penis/testicles.

My question is: What is wrong with telling them they are perfect just the way they are?

    1. It doesn't say they can get what you infer they can get or even apply for the procedures you mention
    2. The law states that students who have shown up "in a licensed shelter or host home" must be reported to the Department of Children, Youth and Families who will deal with the family situation. The legislation is intended to help keep estranged young people housed, not remove children from parents. (these are runaways)

All this is in the article you cited.

I have no issue with adults that can afford unnecessary cosmetic surgery. We are talking about those lacking the ability to process information in a way that considers long term consequences. I strongly oppose conversion therapy, drugs and surgery. I support telling them they are perfect just the way they are and working to make them comfortable in their own body.

Thats easy for me to say, since I have the body of a god. (Buddha!)

My understanding is that this does not lead to better outcomes compared to affirmation. Though due to a lack of equipoise, may be hard to get a trial on that. The only adults imposing beliefs are conservatives here. Liberals wouldn't even be talking about this if not for conservative outrage, it would just be a mental health issue between doctors and patients.

They don't make the decision in a vacuum.
There's obviously a trained professional involved at that point.

Due to suicide, some don't make it to adulthood.

You are dangerously incorrect. While conservatives are imposing their beliefs on children, they child can still change their minds when they are an adult. This is not the case with irreversible surgery. That makes the beliefs liberals are imposing far worse.

In both cases, the adults have good intentions and really believe it is for the child's own good.

In both cases, children need to be protected from these adults.

I am far from conservative and I strongly oppose surgically altering children permanently to chase an outer image.
I am far from being a liberal and oppose telling children they are an abomination and will burn for an eternity.

People with good intentions are the most dangerous. Those removing the clitoris from young girls with a broken piece of glass in Africa (FGM) have the best of intentions as well.

I don't care if you are conservative or liberal. Imposing unnecessary cosmetic surgery on children is barbaric and should never be tolerated.

The patient is not part of the decision. Suicide is not exclusive to those with gender dysphoria. "Highly trained professionals" treat depression with products that list suicidality as side effects. When the patient develops a resistance to the antidepressants and their depression comes back, they add more drugs that also list suicidality as side effects. Sure, doctors and big pharma make tons of money, but in the end, the patient is the one taking all the risks.

In this case, the patient is too young to be a part of the decision.

Of course the patient is part of the decision.
They can't be forced into drugs or surgery.

Obviously a legal guardian signature signature is/should be required.

You are dangerously incorrect. Until the age of 25, information is processed through the amygdala. Lacking the ability to process information through the prefrontal cortex, their decision was made without the ability to consider long term consequences. They take on 100% of the risk and consequences, but their part in the decision is 0%. Minors can be convinced to do a lot of things. Saying they weren't forced is no defense.

    No I am not.

I've read and agree about brain development up to 25.
Not real relevant to this topic.

Liberals aren't really imposing beliefs at all, they are just wanting medical professionals to handle it without political interference. As far as I have seen, genital surgery isn't common for pre-adults, but outcomes were better for chest surgery when done earlier. There's also the issue of timing with hormonal treatment. Besides suicidality, timing could make a difference in the final outcomes. If you demand somebody who wants to be female to undergo male puberty before taking drugs to appear female, their ability to appear female is likely impaired after going through male puberty, i.e. the damage to them from their perspective may be less reversible by delaying treatment.

It's not really from adults, nor are they really children. We're talking about teens who want this and demand it. The rational course of action is to do whatever improves their long-term outcomes from their perspective. This requires data and, in absence of that, the clinical judgment of clinicians who work with similar patients regularly and over the long term.

You should leave it to the medical professionals to manage patients with difficult psychiatric conditions, especially without using actual literature to back up what you suggest.

FGM isn't really similar. It's not stemming from a desire from the child, it's from a cultural norm that values chastity over female sexual pleasure. That is being imposed on them, rather than requested by them, which makes it unlike gender affirmation.
