Details are still murky on this, but the crux of the matter is that Trump utilized an old law, the Alien Enemies Act to deport gang members. Five plaintiffs requested an injunction. The judge ordered the Trump administration to stop deporting gang members and said any flights in the air needed to be returned to the United States.

Trump's administration delivered the criminals to El Salvador anyway, where they are being imprisoned due to being dangerous threats. The President of El Salvador mocked the judge in a tweet, "Oopsie... Too late," and posted a video of them being dropped off.

Additionally, the judge was told that the planes were already in international airspace and he had no jurisdiction to order planes not in the US to come back. They also said they did not deport the five plaintiffs, but would continue deporting gang members using other authorities than the Alien Enemies Act in the meantime, and they are appealing his ruling.

Who knows who they were, but it seems Trump tested the waters to see if there are any consequences to disrespecting the law, and he found that there are none. Courts can make rulings, and Trump can ignore them, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. There was also a doctor with H1B visa who was deported despite of a court order ordering the deportation to stop.

God I am literally crying tears of joy. Clear them out. Put this thing into overdrive. Use the military to do it. Put those transport carriers to good use for once.

The Democrats have taken the knee and can no longer stop us!!! Thank God!!! The sun is finally rising on America.

Yes, because disrespecting the courts and the law is such an awesome thing. That's why he is nicknamed FOTUS.

Trying to remember this old quote here....

The judge has given his edict, now let him enforce it.

Or some words to that effect

Jackson! Sure, the courts, including the Supreme Court, can make their rulings, but if they are ignored / disrespected, and Congress refuses to act, then the laws mean nothing. Now the WH knows they do not need to obey the court rulings in the future.

Please don't try to pretend like this is some unprecedented event.

You remember a little thing about student loans?

Yeah. But is that something to be celebrated or concerned about? Seems to me like it's leaning towards autocracy and dictatorship if you allow that kind of thinking to prevail.

I love how people are acting like this is the first time in history that a presidential administration has defied a court ruling.

If some liberal activist judge thinks that he can tell the president what to do when the president is actually doing things to benefit the country.... Screw him anyways.

So, the president is above the law. Now it has been confirmed beyond any shadow of doubt.

The judge was a Bush appointee, and there is nothing to indicate is was an activist judge, and his ruling was based on Trump using a wartime powers act for purposed it is not intended for.

    That is now understood.

What we must now decide is whether all judges need to be listened to or only those our side appointed. What does the Constitution say?

White House touts deportation of alleged gang members that court ordered returned to US
President Donald Trump’s White House is celebrating his use of a rarely invoked wartime authority to carry out the mass deportation of hundreds of alleged gang members to El Salvador in an episode that fueled doubts about the ability of the U.S. court system to constrain the Trump administration’s actions.

After a federal judge issued an unusual order Saturday evening that required all planes carrying those covered by Trump’s Alien Enemies Act declaration to return to the U.S, at least one planeload of Venezuelan deportees continued on to San Salvador and discharged its passengers to a waiting brigade of Salvadoran soldiers, police and videographers.

Grim video posted on X by El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, contained movie-like scenes set over a music soundtrack and depicted soldiers leading tattooed men off an airplane, forcing them to bend toward the ground as they were frog-marched to waiting buses and had their heads shaved by hooded prison guards.

Statements from Bukele and from Trump allies mocking the court order issued by the chief U.S. District Judge in Washington, James Boasberg, contributed to an air of fecklessness around the U.S. legal system in Trump’s second term.

It's not the first time trump refused to comply with a court order. It likely won't be the last as he tries to normalize ignoring the courts.

The WH clarified the president does not have to listen to "a single judge in a single city".

If the president does not have to listen to the US Court, then I can't think of anything, or anyone else he has to listen to aka he is officially above the law. To make matters worse, Central Americans are mocking the US justice system as well. No respect.

The very second it becomes acceptable for a President to ignore a court order, THAT is the moment we will know a fascist regime has been established.

And let's be clear: it makes NO difference whether the court is right or wrong. The point is that it's NOT a President's job to determine what authority a judge has or doesn't have.

If no one holds him accountable, and laws are irrelevant, then he will do as he pleases. I fear this is just the beginning.

Did you feel the same way when Biden defied the court about the student loans?

Okay fine then, just deport them under the regular immigration law

So much confusion. First, they denied defying the order. Then they said the order was unlawful. Then they said that the judge ordered the halt after the planes had taken off. So which is it?

He didn't. He complied. He modified the thing 3 times to comply with the courts, and the final version was called "student loans without forgiveness”. Having said that, I was strictly against the whole idea of that effort.

    Yes. How hard is that?
