Dude, it's the belief by Trump that infrastructure must be continued, er, at least, maintained at some level. Part of America first means maintaining infrastructure in America.

And the irony is that he made this news and that it was not at a campaign stop or a rally. It was a news making Trump statement of what America should do.

Cities exist and grow because there is a need for them, in the places they exist. The government planning to build cities out of nowhere is a communist disaster.
It’s remarkable that so many people who consider themselves conservatives and who claim to be in favor of small government are all-in for this idea, just because it comes from trump.
If Biden had proposed exactly the same thing, they would have shot it down and called it communist. But coming from trump, it’s suddenly a great idea.

The number of economic stagnant cities and towns in America are legion. The last thing we need to do is pursue this dumb idea that China tried to build symbolic ghost cities in the middle of nowhere.

 

It is a great idea to have cities that liberals don’t control and haven’t been polluted by the secular progressive left socialist ESG/DEI culture and ideology.

 

So this is about creating cities only for people with a certain political leaning?

How are you going to do that? The same people who prefer living in cities will be living in these new cities.

 

We passed a huge infrastructure bill in HR 3684 when it became law in the 117th Congress. Yet, most conservatives called it "socialism." Some conservatives, including a few on this forum, blamed the infrastructure bill in question as part of the "inflation" that Joe Biden signed into law. Geez.

I do agree in beautifying the city, that means creating parks, bike trails along the same roads as the cars drive on, and a whole bunch of other "green" ideas that the GOP absolutely hates. However, if you look at some of the comments who agree with this statement, they literally want "10 new cities" as in completely new, like what China has done such as Xiongan now and Shenzhen in 1979 with 600 or so more brand new cities from the ground up since 1949.

I volunteer my existing city(Redding) with a brand new down town and lots of new housing and industry to be one of the 10 cities. We already strongly support him and follow his ideals. An expansion of Trump country in California!

 

Most retirees either go to San Antonio, North Carolina, or Florida. Second, it is something that China is doing now with a new city called Xiongan, a new "futuristic" city that they are quite literally building. Second, our "future city" concept cane in a form of entertainment, called Tomorrowland with Walt Disney Land in Anaheim California, and subsequently at Walt Disney World in Florida and in the 1980s, a place called EPCOT. That is about as far as we are going to get in reality for a new "futuristic city" in America. Who knows, Trump may charge admission to stay there as a resident, dictated by his rules and so forth. Sound familiar here?

 

Unless you want to build that city in the foothills of the Cascade mountains, it is not going to happen any time soon. You have a federally recognized tribe, a river with Shasta Dam, farm land, and the foothills on the east, north, and south of the city.

 

By limiting their size. Cities no more than 150k population and at a minimum 50 miles away from any existing larger metro area. The idea is to have more and larger exurbs to supplement the rural and small town population. The GOP can’t sustain on only rural and small town America. We need micro cities with small town feels to them with good schools, big parks, and most all single family homes with decent sized yards reliant on gas powered cars. I live in a place similar to that.

 

I hate cities. Keep them away from me. That’s where all the liberals are.

 

We are surrounded by federal forests, parks, recreation areas, BLM land already. Why would the fact that a Native American tribe lived/lives here affect anything? We already are in the foothills of several mountain ranges including the Cascades. Mt. Lassen the southern most cascade peak and Mt. Shasta qualify. Designating a California city would be great and it would piss off our coastal urban cities to no end which is reason enough for me.

 

Wait for about ten years when a Democrat suggests this and the Trump haters will be saying it's a great idea.
