Putin? I'm sure he'd do it if he could get away to it.

Meh. I doubt that his subordinates would obey him even if he gave the order.

We pay for the best armed forces in the world. I say, have them go to Russia and fight the bastard instead of sitting on their asses.

The anti-Russia measures have pretty much bankrupted Russia, so why do you call that appeasement? If anything short of sending US troops to fight and die called 'appeasement'?

Putin is making a hell of gamble testing us like this, too, betting that we'll be scared out of helping Ukraine in a meaningful way.

It is obvious that the world is afraid of Putin. And there ain't no telling what he will do next. Maybe weaken us enough for China to act? I don't know.

The way I understand Fatback, he's seem to be part of the group of republican who'd let Putin and Russia do what they want since it doesn't matter to the USA whatever happen outside her borders.

I think many former populist / isolationists are finding their old selves again and realize some degree of world policing can be tolerated. Some have even returned to their neo-con roots and demand military action. Its like a spell being lifted. It's amazing how people can be persuaded to temporarily support and/or oppose anything.

They want Putin to understand that IF he attacks any NATO member, he would be firing upon US troops which will justify us to do whatever we want.

Especially poor Moldova. There they are even more vulnerable as Ukraine, given their size and lack of NATO protection, not to mention their own little Donbas in Transnistria..

We have to assume that it won't stop at Ukraine, but it might.

Despite all the talk surrounding the BTC Pipeline, Putin's invasion of Georgia may actually have been predicated on securing a base for the Black Sea Fleet. At that time there was talk that the Ukrainians wouldn't renew the lease on Sevastopol after 2017:

    https://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/01/26/russia.abkhazia.naval.base/
    https://www.heritage.org/europe/commentary/swords-and-shields-russias-abkhaz-base-plan

Later, Putin dispensed with the lease agreements altogether and seized Sevastopol and the Crimean peninsula in 2014, but he didn't have a secure land corridor linking the peninsula to Russia. Needless to say, many people (including myself) expected that one day he would invade eastern Ukraine to establish that land corridor and here we are. I think where this stops - at the Dneiper or Ukraine's western border - will give us an idea of whether or not his territorial ambitions extend beyond Ukraine.

Regardless, everything has changed now. The days when the West could have an ambiguous and ambivalent relationship with Russia appear to be over once again.

So your statement about dying on your feet than living on your knees, you meant you want someone else to do the fighting for you not you actually fight.... Do you advocate for an armed civilian population?

All that matters is that Russia might use it as a pretext to invade Moldova.

The way you understand many things is obviously in error, this example is no different.

You send your Canadian troops to die on a foreign soil. Easy to be a warhawk safely behind the Canadian border isn't it?

We are on the brink of the new world order. If Russia gets away with it, we will start seeing emergence of aggressive fascist military alliances within months.
The more we appease, the harder it is to stop them.
The way I see it - it’s better to become aggressive now and maybe get away with a regional war, instead of dealing with a potential Russo-Chinese alliance invading and occupying whichever areas they choose to label their historic homelands.
Fascism is evil and this evil won’t stop. Historic precedents were set in mid-20th century and now. If you want to avoid total war, it’s better to fight it now, before Russian fascists get emboldened.

Then the whole world needs to participate in it not just the United States.
