Trump supporters call for riots and violent retribution after verdict

May 31 - Supporters of former President Donald Trump, enraged by his conviction on 34 felony counts by a New York jury, flooded pro-Trump websites with calls for riots, revolution and violent retribution.

After Trump became the first U.S. president to be convicted of a crime, his supporters responded with dozens of violent online posts, according to a Reuters review of comments on three Trump-aligned websites: the former president's own Truth Social platform, Patriots.Win and the Gateway Pundit.

Some called for attacks on jurors, the execution of the judge, Justice Juan Merchan, or outright civil war and armed insurrection.

“Someone in NY with nothing to lose needs to take care of Merchan,” wrote one commentator on Patriots.Win. “Hopefully he gets met with illegals with a machete,” the post said in reference to illegal immigrants.

On Gateway Pundit, one poster suggested shooting liberals after the verdict. “Time to start capping some leftys,” said the post. “This cannot be fixed by voting."....

The hardcore Trump supporter was and is easily radicalized. There media silos are a destructive echo chamber which foreign state players are quite happy to exploit. Dark times can be endured without a despot wannabee at the helm.

The vitriol last afternoon and night on Fox "news" was squarely aimed at the judge, I hope he and his extended family have quality protection and any smart juror should keep a very low profile even though they were doing their DUTY as citizens.
On CNN yesterday, one court reporter, IMO, gave out some additional info re the jury foreman which really was totally unnecessary. We don't need to know personal details that could help identify an individual called to do their duty.

We can't stop people imitating the rhetoric of some of the more violent Trump supporters. It's just as dangerous behaviour, imo.

 

Which is why the convictions of the Jan 6 participants was so important. If those convictions stop even a handful….. it is also why people like MTG should be taken into a back room and kicked in the bum until they grow a brain - or at least a couple more brains cells so the one functioning one she has isn’t so lonely lols!

I agree with you that the rioters you speak of were treated with kids gloves but the reason behind the violence is vastly different.

One side is rioting (or threatening to do so) over a single politician, they did so because their pick wasn’t reelected and are now threatening to do so because their pick was just convicted by a jury of his peers.

The other side was either protesting police violence or simply looting stores without care for the main reason. They were not doing so because of their politics as polls showed many of them were against both parties or they were apolitical.

The ramifications of these could not be any different

How about we should just all agree that any acts of violence or threat of violence should be met with enough force that people think twice about it next time?

 

This is why I will always support the 2nd amendment, people need to protect themselves against these lunatics.
