what function what serves? 'happy holidays' on days other then Christmas eve and Christmas day

it's a generic greeting businesses can use all winter and covers all holidays

it doesn't matter, it's up to the business, really there is no reason to say it except on Christmas eve and Christmas day, just like any other holiday

whatever they choose to say, it's up to them.... not you or I

we will never know, we Americans got a fresh new country with many resources, that played a big part of it

as the population increases, people get more shoulder to shoulder and that is when conflict start to occur, people start demanding business say Merry Christmas to them, ect....

Which section of my post does this apply to? Whatever it is, you're still missing two sections.

Either section 1 or 2. If it is section 1, then your response doesn't really make any sense. If it is section 2, you didn't say who you are saying the queen sent, what theocracy you mean and what role it played.

section 1 and it does, as this was basically a new country, yes, the Christians had to kill a lot of natives to take it, but it was basically untouched, many resources, just go find a plot of land and work the land it was yours unless someone else wanted to fight you over it

a lot of credit goes to the founders and our constitution they created, separation of church and state, free speech, freedom of the press, religious freedom, the right to bear arms, ect.....

the constitution was not perfect, it was a living document..... but as we can see from our society, it has worked well

What's that got to do with the scenario that the US is 90% Islamic?

you seem to think religion played the majority role, I disagree, and explained what I think played a majority role

also use coming from a theocracy, and knowing how bad that was, made us be sure to prevent that from ever happening here

fact is, when resources are good, people tend to be better as a society, when people require more resources then are available, things start to get dicey, civil unrest and even dictatorships can take root, ect....

but we are getting way off the topic of a war on christmas

Not Christianity itself which played the majority role, but the values in which stem from it.

How did the queen sending people to convert or kill the natives lead to the separation from the theocracy?

That's okay, as far as I'm aware there's no rule here which says that we mustn't go off topic.

the values were society values that existed long before Christianity, but tell me, which "values" do you mean?

never said it did, but it was bad for the natives

Are you really asking that? In Islamic countries where women and homosexuals are treated in such a
radically different way that they're treated in western civilization. Do those counties have the same values as the USA?

    WHOA THERE!

NO, women and homosexuals are NOT treated in a radically different way in Islamic countries than in more "enlightened countries" like the USA! NO!

In THIS "Christian " country some people wish to make women no more than breeding cattle who can cook( a white supremist who believes that just spoke at a university, he is in agreement WITH those who want to take away women's rights to their own bodies by banning abortion) and some of our politicians want to take away some people's rights because they're homosexuals...homosexuals have been beaten and killed in this country simply because they were gay and Tiny Little Straight "Men" were frightened .

    The difference is not radical....

Oh, and please don't bother with the crap about how women and gays should be "grateful" to live here because it's worse in other countries...that's pure crap....

So by us not saying Merry Christmas for two months solid we are allowing our gays to be killed, women to be stoned or burned alive, or whatever else Christianity has been saving us from for hundreds of years? Weird, I thought it was due process and our legal system that was protecting us from those things. Other countries you speak of that have those things occur are theocracies, which is why they are dangerous. Should religion play a part in peoples' lives and moral compasses, sure if they want it to. But it's our laws and processes that protect us as citizens, and when something horrible is done to us there is a process for justice.

Christianity is still the largest religion in this country, so we aren't really ditching it as a whole, except that a lot of those people aren't following all of the old Christian practices now because they no longer make sense. Divorce is one example I can think of. It's not a lack of faith that is driving the divorce rate higher, it access to information 24/7 and the fact that women are equally empowered to leave a bad marriage as men. Back in the day when that wasn't true, sure you had way higher rates of "successful" marriages.

No it's very common. Most people don't make threats, but ALOT of far right Christians get mad when stores cater to other religions and refuse to give specific, exclusive recognition to Christianity. It's part of what the phony "war on Christmas" is about.

Don't get me started on Santa. That's the true war on Christmas that is at a whole different level. Saint Nick is another name for Satan in the Bible and nothing has done more to take the true meaning of Christmas away than the Santa clause fairytale. Thats probably for another thread in the religion forum though.

You make my point for me with the divorce rate. The further this country strays from it's basic Christian values the worse things get and our divorce rate is a perfect example of that. This leads to broken homes with single parents and screwed up kids and drugs and crime and our society degrades further.

All they ask is one month a year to have the Christmas spirit dominate. The other religions and atheists can do what they will with the other eleven. Is that really too much to ask when 70% of the country is Christian?

Couldn't you comprehend the words of the poster you quoted or did you just see the word "divorce" and go nuts?

THIS is what they wrote: "" It's not a lack of faith that is driving the divorce rate higher, it access to information 24/7 and the fact that women are equally empowered to leave a bad marriage as men. Back in the day when that wasn't true, sure you had way higher rates of "successful" marriages.""

Meaning that just because women couldn't divorce as easily doesn't mean they were in a happy marriage.
Does your "faith" require people to be unhappy? Be beaten? Be verbally and mentally abused just to preserve the image of a "successful" marriage? If so, it sucks...:)
