Too European??? Really?? I'm not at all sure what exactly it is you mean by that... Do you dislike Europeans so much that you'd rather we just hung on to our dysfunctional two-party plurality system and all the problems that come with it?

Surely, there are plenty of valid concerns one can bring up with regards to Ranked Voting, things which might need to be explained... but as for arguments against it, or against anything really... simply calling something "Too European" just isn't a good one. I mean... it'd be like a starving person being offered a piece of chicken, but instead of accepting it they told the person, "Sorry, I can't eat that... it's too African".

I mean... if the person was allergic to chicken or something, I could understand that, if its against a certain religion, I get it...
...but too African?... too European?... C'mon now...

That said... if its just the name, "Ranked Voting", that is the issue here... how 'bout we just call it something else then?
Like Instant Runoff for example? Or Ranked Pairs if we pick that one?... Heck, we can technically call it whatever we want.
Single Session Elimination is the name I originally gave to an Instant Runoff method before I knew what Instant Runoff was.
A bit lengthy, but you can at least rest assured that that term was coined by an American...

Allow me to correct the language. I made a little slip here <COMMENTS EDITED> but let me clarify in my hypothetical that Trump could represent Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives. As I said, it is a hypothetical that actually COULD take place and it would be Constitutionally acceptable, but I think "America Last" aficionados have far more to be concerned about than my hypothetical.

    Thank you kindly.

I laugh off those accusations of "anger" because they are just projecting their own. The whole nation saw the anger in the faces of those Domestic Terrorists attacking the Capitol. It was clearly visible in Michigan too.

But we are the ones who are "angry"?

I suspect that my laughter might well be fueling their anger because I find it impossible to not laugh at those who believe in bizarre conspiracies while denying factual reality.

Trump as the Secret President is brilliant. I foresee beaucoup bucks being made off this until Trump dies, and probably not stopping even then. He won't stop there though, he'll be bigger than Fox by 2028 if he's not dead or in jail.

If any Joe off the street did what Trump did, they would already be into their lease at Leavenworth.

Very yes and no on that. Not every Joe is POTUS after all. Trump can always use the defense that he didn't realize his followers were THAT idiotic and he has a reputation for driving his mouth before his brain is engaged, which is stupid but not criminal or we're all inmates.

OTOH it's indisputable that any former President OUGHT to know better, and that quite a few people are going to jail for some time because they did what they were told by the most powerful being then in existence.

No I do not dislike Europeans per se. I was born in Europe so why would I dislike Europeans. We are a different breed of people here and I do not believe that us Americans would like the complexity and inefficiency of ranked voting. Ranked voting as I understand it is that it is allowing voters to vote for multiple candidates in order of preference. So we would need to educate our voters and instill discipline in them. Maybe that would work with the Lefty crowd but I do not see conservative voters liking that much at all. You would the same reaction it got from me!!!!! Too European......

Maybe name it it something else like Freedom Voting it may fly.

Heh, if calling it "Freedom Voting" is what it takes to fix our election system, then that's fine by me. :peace:8)
Ranked Voting is as you describe; allowing voters to indicate relative preference of multiple candidates.
Though for most methods, including the ones I advocate, the ranking is not actually required in any way.
So for any voter who, for whatever reason, didn't like the idea of ranking their choices, they wouldn't have to.
They could just indicate a single candidate pick if that's all they really wanted to do.
Ranked Voting would just mean that those who wanted to rank had the option.

I have faith in Americans, that if the process is brought to their attention and explained to them, most will eventually be on board with the idea, especially if it means the eventual end to the perpetual two-party duopoly and rampant political dysfunction which Americans by and large, myself included, cannot stand. As for complexity, if folks are able to understand how a Runoff election works, then they ought have no issues wrapping their heads around a simple Ranked Voting method like Instant Runoff. As a matter of fact, several posters on this board, left, right, and center, have indicated support for that particular method. So we probably shouldn't presume too much about want someone else's views on the idea would be. Let us merely educate one another on the subject as you suggested, and if anyone has concerns about it at that point, let those individuals come forth and express those concerns in their own words.

I like Ranked Voting. And it could be a step forward in search of a more democratic way to elect a President. I think it would be best used in a parliamentary system. But if we're not willing to go that far, at least we should use it to select Congress. It would give us a chance to break with this two party system that is dragging down the country. Smaller party candidates might not have a chance at the presidency no matter what system we use. But they might have a shot in congressional races.

Yeah, well, when a few hundred thousand of them show up to bow before their golden idol and storm the Capitol on his word, let the world know.

Not a single poster on this forum made any such claim, yet lately the big "insult" from the left is to refer to all republicans as "Q". Seems its the left who is obsessed with this imaginary boogey man. It's their new clutch.

Well the left's "Dominionist" conspiracy theory didn't work out so I guess they are switching to "Q" since at least people have heard of that.

I don't know any, but my comment said that not a single poster here made a claim of the OP, yet now the leftist on this forum have taken it upon themselves to label the opposing side as Q.

I never said there were no people who believe in this Q anon, although I don't know what their beliefs are because I cannot find anything solid that contains that info.
