Ukraine could face defeat in 2024. Here's how that might look

The former commander of the UK's Joint Forces Command has warned that Ukraine could face defeat by Russia in 2024.

General Sir Richard Barrons has told the BBC there is "a serious risk" of Ukraine losing the war this year.

The reason, he says, is "because Ukraine may come to feel it can't win".

"And when it gets to that point, why will people want to fight and die any longer, just to defend the indefensible?"

Ukraine is not yet at that point.

But its forces are running critically low on ammunition, troops and air defences. Its much-heralded counter-offensive last year failed to dislodge the Russians from ground they had seized and now Moscow is gearing up for a summer offensive.

It's rather shocking that the BBC is running this. Maybe they are trying to prepare their readership with reality before reality actually smacks them in the face. I suspect we may see more articles like this from other sources as various news outlets will want to prepare their audience after chirping about Ukraine's inevitable victory for the past two years.

We'll see.

 

One thing I NEVER would have predicted was Republicans defending and turning into commie Russian sympathizers just to own the libs.

You must have forgotten Republicans were the ones who refused to sign immigration bill. Republicans are the ones wanting cheap labor. Republicans are the ones wanting Latino votes that have been trending their way last few election cycles. Republicans are the ones screaming the lie 'open borders' which encourages illegals to cross.

Back during the cold war, when the Russians actually were commies, you guys absolutely were Soviet sympathizers. Many a leftist was metaphorically on his knees before the Russians. It didn't matter that the Soviets were an aggressive, expansive power, you guys thought that was the future.

You guys think they are the enemy now because they are not communist. If they were still communist, you would be down on your knees before them.

This is maybe the thousandth time I've seen similar comments on this forum. It's some weird gap in logic that allows you to love the Soviets and hate the Russians. The difference? Communism of course.

But the real kicker is that your entire response was an attack to a post about the most obvious foreign policy issue of recent times, the Russian-Ukrainian war and the fact that there was never a way for Ukraine to win it. If it was going to continue, Russia was always going to win. Yet for over two years this forum has been ga ga about the inevitable victory when Ukraine would push those Russkies right over the pre-war borders with Crimea being retaken to boot.

Nothing to say about that I see.

 

We will never know if there was (or is) a way for Ukraine to win while Republicans held assistance back and all countries restricting how Ukraine used the weapons they provided them.

 

I'd bet the majority of those you see online (pretty much the only place you'll ever actually see them) are actually Russian trolls.

 

Uh yes, it's been pretty damn obvious from the beginning. No matter what amount of military hardware we supply to the Ukrainians, they can't succeed in this type of war without manpower and on that front, they have no way of keeping up with the Russians.

I realize a lot of people for some reason seemed to believe otherwise, but you can't sustain combat with this level of casualties with a country that that has many times the population base of Ukraine. I mean, how was this supposed to end differently?

 

I love how Democrats like to assert that if you're not in favor of sending hundreds of billions of our tax dollars to Ukraine, that you must somehow love Russia.

I don't really give a damn about either country but I don't like to see all of our tax dollars being wasted either.

 

Anyone who decides a war’s outcome based on stat sheets obviously doesn’t know much about the history of warfare. In fact, I don’t know how you can credibly claim to know anything at all.

I’ll give you a tidbit for some homework. Look up Vietnam: N.Korea vs. US. Juggernaut. Who do you think should win? And then look up who actually does. It will absolutely blow your mind learning about these things
