I must disagree that he was under-charged. New York has pretty specific definitions for what constitutes first-degree murder in the state, and his murder of the CEO does not fit those definitions:

    https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/PEN/125.27

The 2nd degree murder charge still carries a maximum sentence of life without parole, and I would be surprised if he got less than that or, as you say, was allowed to plea down. I expect he would have to have something to give prosecutors in exchange for that, and they have him dead to rights already and nothing else they might need from him for this or any other case.

While I understand the intent, that's still messed up.

Yeah, as TurtleDude explained, the DA's hands were tied and limited to the second degree charge.

He's be someone's prison bitch. BTW Lieyawatha is trying to justify the shooting

Irony. The killer came from an extremely privileged background
the man he shot in the back did not

Wasn't it some conference that the CEO was speaking at ? I would think that would be easy since it was probably heavily publicized. I would guess that he just showed up early and waited ?

I dont think people support WHAT he did, but they understand and empathize with WHY he did it.

Healthcare insurance companies are the ones who literally make all the rules as to who gets treated, when they get treated, and how they get treated. Most americans have been thru our healthcare system, and understand it is broken, because they have been screwed by healthcare insurance companies. Insurance companies bring no value to the table, yet they define and direct what healthcare we receive, based on whats the most profitable path for THEM.

I think were getting confused as to why people empathize with the shooter, but dont condone what he did

Yeap rich kid grows up going to private schools, then ivy league for undergrad and masters, certainly should understand the struggle of life with insurance companies. What I always love is how few talk about how many lives insurance has saved.

Healthcare insurance pays the bills, medicine save the lives. But when insurance denies coverage it ruins lives. Insurance companies also cost lives because THEY, not the doctors decide care paths. If you think your doctor is deciding how to treat you, your wrong, they are only doing what the insurance company allows.

    This, my friends, is terrorism.

‘Wanted’ posters with name, photo of UHC CEO Brian Thompson, other execs spotted in NYC

The posters warn that “HEALTH CARE CEOS SHOULD NOT FEEL SAFE” and include “DENY… DEFEND… DEPOSE” — the three words found on the bullets allegedly shot by Luigi Mangione, who is accused of gunning down Thompson outside a Midtown hotel last week.
    .................................
The murder has also spawned a stream of merchandise sympathetic towards the 26-year-old being sold by online retailers, forcing Amazon to pull them from its website.

Gifts like T-shirts, sweatshirts and other goods with “Deny Defend Depose” have been popping up on websites like Amazon, TikTok and Ebay. Other Mangione-themed items with “Free Luigi” written on them have been put up for sale for the killer’s admirers.

In most cases, there would be those that would find this hard to believe. I have a question on this and it's that was the killer sane when the crime was committed?

well given the amount of preparation he engaged in, multiple IDs a 3D printed suppressed assassin's weapon, waiting for the target etc-well in Ohio he'd get the death penalty

anyone who glorifies the shooter is a nutcase. As to the shooter-he needs to be traded around the cell block for a pack of smokes and a couple candy bars. He's lucky he didn't do this deed in a red state. He's be looking at the DP. this is a classic DP level case in most states that still have it

FFS man, why do you just make things up ?

You and yours fundamentally missed the point of what happened. Its not about him being "rich" its about the contract they have with their customer, and then when their customer uses their service, they get shafted. The contract with their "customer" is that "you pay monthly fee to me to be "insured for your health", and then when you need it we take care of you". That contract is so bastardized right now, that the customer is now at the will of the company, and has little to no power over their own healthcare, let alone their mortality. With the contract now being completely about the money, and how much they can keep, at the risk of your health.

We used to have the ability to make decisions about our own healthcare, between ourselves and our doctors, but that no longer exists because of the middle man (United Healthcare etc), and their profit ONLY motives. The insurance industry now controls not only the amounts they pay, but what they will pay for, AND in the last few years those same insurance companies have literally defined what Dr's can and cannot do for you ("care plans"). Healthcare is no longer about health, its about profits, and those profits are gained at the expense of our health and well-being.

We, are now seeing that we get less and less care, and pay larger and larger portions of the billing (even when we have insurance), while we see companies like United Health Care gaining larger and larger profits every year. Almost everyone knows someone who was screwed over by health insurance, and are in financial distress because of it, while we see the United Healthcares of the equation gaining larger and larger shares of the financials and setting record profits every year.

The UHC's of the world are also distressing those that deliver healthcare, and many of those providers are hurting as well because of it. Know that today, Dr's dont actually determine what your care plan will be based on their diagnosis, they are told by the UHC's of the world what they can/cannot do, and that is 100% based on the UHC's profit motive. They made $23 billion in 2023, and are forecasting $24-25 billion this year, while 79 healthcare companies filed for bankruptcy last year alone. I would guess that most of you who are rooting for UHC dont really understand the business of healthcare, and how much power UHC has over the entire industry.

NOBODY is supporting what this guy did in killing their CEO, even tho UHC, thru their policies are killing thousands more than this young man did ;) . But most of us do understand his frustration at what is happening in healthcare....

encouraging the death of someone who has committed no crimes is no more a first amendment right than shooting up a school with an UZI is a second amendment right
