You guys need to read up on your history. I was a kid in California in the 70's and I remember forced busing, it was a big topic, and my cousin was almost caught up in it. Despite being called desegregation busing, it was more about the SCOTUS decision in the landmark case, Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education that ruled that the school district must achieve racial balance even if it meant redrawing school boundaries and the use of busing as a legal tool. The whole idea was that because schools in predominately black neighborhoods had more black kids attending, and schools in predominately white neighborhoods had more white kids attending, by busing some of the kids from one school to another would make them more racially balanced. Of course, this was a complete disaster as white families simply moved out of the big cities to the suburbs which increased the discrepancy between the races in the schools and they eventually stopped forced busing.
