The pages of the Chicago Tribune in 1945 certainly is history.

"The Japanese were prepared to negotiate all the way from February 1945…up to and before the time the atomic bombs were dropped; …if such leads had been followed up, there would have been no occasion to drop the [atomic] bombs."

"In Einstein’s judgment, the dropping of the bomb was a political – diplomatic decision rather than a military or scientific decision."

The history of propoganda disguised as news in an era where the communist party in this country was still strong.

You have to remember Pearl Harbor occurred when Japan was "negotiating". There was nobody in their right mind that trusted them and if they wanted to surrender they could have done so at any time without so called negotiations which may have only served to give them time to regroup and rebuild.

To be honest I'm not sure I'd know about him if he wasn't a distant relative. I'm a descendant of his brother Jacob who's an even lesser known historical figure even though he was one of the last Texans to be killed at the Alamo.

You don't know the communist party was strong in the US both pre and shortly after WW2 and you are a history teacher. God help us.

Japan didn't surrender until we dropped the bomb on them. Goal post remains in place.

Sorry but I don't find any humor in a history teacher not knowing or worse yet denying this historical fact.

Neither of those things are the case here. What you are trying to do is deflect and deny because you don't have it in you to admit you were wrong. That's hilarious.

That Japan had sent out feelers about surrendering well before Truman dropped the atomic bombs, and that the bloodthirsty fdr completely ignored MacArthur's memorandum informing him of this just prior to Yalta.

The Chicago Tribune was solidly Republican. You are missing the point about what is wrong with his link - where is the actual substance of the MacArthur memo? We only have the article's characterisation without any context.

Never said Japan didn't feign offers of negotiating of surrender but I did say those offers couldn't be taken seriously after pearl harbor. Japan could have surrendered any time they wanted to but didn't until after we dropped the bomb. Your assertion that our government was blood thirsty instead of taking previous deceitful negotiations into consideration once again chills me as to who is teaching our children history.
