    Roosevelt dismissed MacArthur's memorandum and declined to even read it carefully, saying "MacArthur is our finest general, and our poorest politician." Given roosevelt's well-known racism and arrogance...

    'Kit Carson, Joseph Walker , etc. are ahistorical icons of the American west.

    Anyone who has studied the Mexican-American War in California has to know who Joseph Walker is.

    Fur trapper, trailblazer, Indian fighter, military scout.

    Being an Indian fighter would make Joseph Walker politically incorrect and under PC revisionist history and the PC Taliban, Joseph Walker has to be scrubbed from America's history.

    There was no "Jap" way. The Japanese wanted Retention of the Emperor and the leadership; no occupation; withdrawal from Indochina and the Pacific Islands; and a status quo in China (no withdrawal).

    It's sadly obvious the mindset you teach your students with. You teach left wing opinion that America is always the bad guy in history instead of teaching facts and letting students decide for themselves. You tell your students Rossevelt was a blood thirsty racist who wanted to play with his new toy like that is history not opinion and I seriously doubt if you teach facts like the documented Japanese atrocities committed on citizens of defeated countries and POWs.

    I've read more than a few biographies and books on Gen. MacArthur and also read the "MacArthur Papers" and don't remember reading anything where MacArthur was approached by the Japs with a surrender offer.

    One thing about history, historians and history books, you are reading one persons opinion on what took place.

    You did NOT ask, and of course I do. I teach all of the facts about the war that time permits. Students can’t form a comprehensive understanding of the war otherwise.

    The nuclear bombs and invasion of Okinawa were justified, as was the bombing of Dresden.

    Only a cuck who does not understand history would disagree. You do not win against people like the Japanese and Nazi's by sticking to the war code. They threw the rule book out so we did what we had to.

    There simple solution to avoid flattening of cities or having a Nuke dropped on you is to not support Imperialists such as Hitler and Hirohito.

    Do you teach your students that U.S. Marines in the Pacific theatre of war didn't take prisoners on the battlefield and why they didn't and that it was also the same policy with the Japanese ?

    You would think that anyone who claims to know anything about WWII would realize that there is more than enough to it to fill years of studying that event exclusively. A single unit in an academic year long class does have to make choices about what it presented and what is mentioned however briefly. I always make a point of setting aside enough time to give students a more comprehensive view of the war so that they may examine the facts and reach their own conclusions. They always learn about Bataan and Nanjing, and they always learn about FDR's concentration camps right here in the US. War isn't a comic book, and it isn't a 3 minute campaign ad. It is a horror and a failure of humanity that we (humanity) just can't seem to stop making. So, as time permits, my students always consider and discuss what led Germany to accept the Nazis, what led the Japanese soldier to commit such atrocities, why previously church-going, God-fearing young American servicemen took to collecting ears from enemy soldiers as souvenirs of war, how a fundamentally moral nation such as the US could allow a son of a bitch like FDR to amass too much personal power and slaughter civilians on a scale never seen before in one stroke while violating the rights of Americans at home in the worst possible way. They also learn about and discuss how and why Chinese people today still harbor deeply painful feelings about a war long ended for a nation with a history thousands of years long and full of wars. Nothing is simple, nothing is pretty, and nothing is left out that time permits. Any student who wants to know more knows where to find me after school every day (outside of wrestling season, of course), and I always offer my free time to continue the fascinating and troubling topic of WWII (or any other topic of world or US history). Conclusions are never pressed on my students. Facts are presented, examined carefully, and discussed. They are then free (of course) to reach their own conclusions - though they will be expected to defend them.

    What they remember ten years after graduation is another matter.

    What a fantastic twisting of history. Fortunately the Japanese weren't tactically astute at sea and took a beating despite having a superior Navy. The Japanese did the dirty on the world and signed a treaty to reduce their Naval Fleet whilst silently building one of the most advanced Navies in the world. Do you teach that?

    That's just one other reason why the Allies were justified in all course of action against the Axis powers and the civilians which supported them.
