We may have written off Biden but he still has the launch codes

I was surprised to find that the US launch system is the same as it was decades
ago, one person is responsible for the launch and that person at present is Joe
Biden.

Is it good that Biden has the launch codes instead of Trump or Kamala? Who should have the codes?

 

The rules are launch on warning, but the warning has to be both a visible
rocket launch hot gas jet and confirmed by radar.

The rule is from the initial hot gas trail to the US launch is a massive response
six minutes later provided it has been confirmed.

There must be exceptions for announced launches from Cape Canaveral or
somewhere and there are well-defined military silo fields in the US which
makes it easier for Russians to avoid making a mistake.

Not so easy for us because both Russia and N. Korea have mobile launchers.

I oversimplify things and think we should not be starting wars, telling the public
we are preventing them, and should find a better way to avoid accidental launches.

 

Biden should not have the launch codes because he does not understand what the President's responsibilities are.

It's not "running the world".

He is responsible for the performing duties of the President in the Constitution so as to accomplish the objectives set forth in the Preamble.

It doesn't say a thing about "running the world".

 

And that includes launch commands for conventional missiles.

The US gave target coordinates, course data and launch orders
to 5 ATACMS missiles each carrying 300 1.5 pound fragmentation
cluster bomblets to be launched at Sevastopol at noon on a national
holiday.

The matter was sufficiently serious so that Russia raised it with
the UN and announced it is no longer at peace with the United
States.

 

I don't think you understand how the launch codes work. The nuclear football, as it were, is always with the President, abroad or at home, and not more than a few feet away, always carried by a uniformed officer of middle rank. But when it comes to nuclear launches, it is not one man, but three men that must agree. They include the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of State, the DoD secretary or the NSA chair, and the President. The VP is not in the picture, for that decision. And all of them are either there or a secured phone call away.
