No it won't even though they fully understand that he was chosen by the people. They will make it into some kind of delusional narcissistic complex.

Something they didn't do when Obama said this in his first nomination victory speech:

So much for certainty. And so much for equal treatment by the media who fawned over him for saying things like that, when Trump is castigated for days for a simple one line joke.

Hardest working man in America. #TRUMP2020

 

When Congress bestowed much power onto the executive branch, no one ever dreamed there would by a paranoid, narcissistic, incompetent, inexperienced President like Trump. When the Democrats nominated the worst possible candidate, many voters were confused and couldn't decide between two substandard candidates. As a consequence, millions of voters stayed home and millions more threw their vote away on a candidate who had no chance of winning. They voted their conscience and we got Trump.

As a result, Trump was elected by disillusioned blue collar workers and their spouses, people who lacked an education, anarchists attracted to Trump's "drain the swamp" mantra, white supremacists, and various other malcontents who blamed the government for all their problems.

When Trump said this:

He attracted all the wrong people. Because he is a bigot, despite all his costly mistakes, despite making a fool of himself nearly every day, despite over 10,000 lies told to the American people, his loyal followers stay with him. Even though he has cost them dearly if one has a retirement investment account or if one is a farmer or one is a consumer paying higher prices because of his tariffs, over 80% of Republicans stay loyal to him.

Once again, Sandy, you are comparing apples to oranges, and you don't even realize it.

You may invest money in a simple money market account. It will earn about 2-2.5% interest. That rate can change, but it will never go negative. It will always earn something, even if it is very little.

Or, you may invest in savings bonds, guaranteed to earn about 1.9% interest currently.

Those two types of investments are the apples.

This type of investor simply lives with the ups and downs and banks that 12% over the long term. That $5000 loss of value you spoke of is just a part of the reality of a long term stock based investment. Historically, the losses are recovered, and the upswings more than make up for the losses.

Compare 12% to 2%, and you should be able to see why the temporary swings in the stock market just ... don't ... matter.
