What did you expect? He's The Godfather of Punk!

"Zombie Birdhouse" is probably my favorite Iggy album. It came out in 1982 and I think it's out of print, but it's a great album:

Nice, but the orchestra and chorus were overkill, imo.

The Foo Fighters do a decent cover of Rock n' Roll, too (even better with Jimmy Page and JPJ):

When FOO did a cover of Ramble on with JP and JPJ Dave Grohl ended it with THIS IS THE BEST F****** day of my life

someone commented that all that band needed was a good drummer and vocalist and it would be one hell of a band

figured I'd put up the Foo Fighters clip I was referencing

for comparison, compare Plant's Vocals over 20 years after LZ's prime time run. I was present at the Cincinnati stop on this tour and saw LZi in the same venue (the infamous site of the Who stampede in 1979). Comparing an older Plant to some of the much younger vocalists who cover LZ's stuff (Grohl, or the Black Crowes) shows just how good Robert Plant really was in his prime and even 20+ years later

and just for fun-13 years or so after that Page and Plant tour. JPJ's bass line is a thing of wonder

Punk has many Godfathers. Some of them didn't even know that they're founders of a new genre. For example, The Adverts ...

So thrilled to find this online. My favorite reading of Over The Rainbow, and it's not even close. For those unfamiliar with Eva Cassidy, she was an East Coast based artist who had a hard time landing a record deal because she sang everything - pop, jazz, country, blues, folk, etc - & refused to let the record companies pigeonhole her into any one genre. Someone in her camp had some Brit connections & her music found its way into the Brit market to tremendous acclaim. McCartney, Clapton & Sting all sang her praises and her star was on the rise. This was recorded in January of 1996. A couple months later, she noticed some pain in her hips. Cancer. She passed in November that year. RIP, Eva. Voice of an angel.

More than one word, thankfully. My favorite recording of a classic Mose Allison song.

Nice guy to have co-write your songs with you and pretend they're yours.

The Stooges are probably the Godfathers of the Godfathers.

I don't know if you can get past the pay wall but The Wall Street Journal recently published an article recently about the 50th anniversary (this year) of Raw Power, which was a groundbreaking album for its time - you can hear how it influenced a lot of bands that came later:

The Stooges’ ‘Raw Power’ Turns 50
A young Iggy Pop found a sympathetic savior in David Bowie, who produced this proto-punk album that had an animal energy and left an indelible mark on the sound of rock
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-stooges-raw-power-turns-50-c3d7e03f

Speaking of David Bowie and Iggy Pop, a lot of people are familiar with Bowie's hit "China Girl", but probably aren't aware that he wrote it with Iggy who released it years earlier on his album The Idiot.

The Stooges are Proto-Punks from 1967, totally unaware of the upcoming Punk era.
The Stooges saw themselves as a regular rock 'n' roll band. :)

If you dig further into Punk's history, you could probably land on the Beatles.
