I can now say that I voted against Republicans not for Democrats. I think those Dems that didn't vote didn't vote because they could not bring themselves to vote for Repubs. I think Repubs got in by default not by a positive vote for. I have met others who voted against Repubs, where they could. but not for Dems.

I understand, I myself voted Libertarian in our senate race because I couldn't stand all the lies being told about the candidates by the other candidates. I dislike both parties but I am trying to make a rational sane reason why the election went the way it did. I think both parties as they move further right and left they will continue to leave most Americans behind. Most Americans are in the middle, not on the fringes. In my opinion there was no mandate. Just a bunch of people fed up with the situation in Washington voting against the party in power. The party in power is equated to which ever party holds the white house, who holds what in congress is basically irrelevant.

I know what you mean. I think you can do math which shows that Repubs got in by a few people spending heavily in marginal areas. At least that is what I think. I agree that neither party can claim a mandate, most particularly the GOP. Most people didn't vote so most people don't agree with either party, IMO. An undercurrent of discontent must build and then maybe explode eventually into some kind of realism.

There has just been a poll released that seems to confirm what we are talking about. It pretty much hits the nail on the head as far as a mandate goes.

It seems so. I just hope some of those politicians start to take notice and do something instead of believing their own publicity, as they seem to do so often.

But surely that is very unconstitutional.

Now that gave me a chuckle. No where in the constitution is it written that our representatives and senators must do or even respect the peoples will. All the constitution says is the House of Representatives shall be composed of members chosen every second year by the people of the several states and then goes on to list the qualifications.

But with gerrymandering it seems the representatives are choosing their voters instead of we the people choosing representatives.

    It was supposed to.

But you see I don't know of anywhere the Constitution talks of color, race or creed. I think its only subsequent peoples that have tried to second guess the founders to suit their own selfish ends.

I think the original documents refer to 'we the people' whatever color we are. At least I think there is no reference to race, religion or orginal country of origin. That came later, I think. Much later, even.
