The Brits and French have nuclear weapons and delivery methods capable of removing Russia from the map just the same as the US does and just the same as Russia could do to them. Russia having 6000 nukes compared to France's 300 doesn't make them a more dangerous or deadly nuclear power than France. Once those things start flying nobody is getting off more than a handful before we're all screwed. This is 2025 we aren't talking about atom bombs anymore unfortunately.
I ignored it. The military doesn't decide who to fight or why. The President, with Congress, decides that.
Only if you overlook four in ten people that work for the government are private contractors many in security related fields. Actual FED staff hasn’t grown in decades. A serious evaluation of efficiency would evaluate the privatization push that began in the eighties. Given what has been uncovered in the past I suspect the private sector is royally screwing over taxpayers: Government contracting is grift central.
No but it was something that the planet actually needed during the era when most of this stuff came to fruition, at least during the time when America took it upon ourselves to slide into the roll. Mainly post WWII and the Cold War. The main problem is that today in 2025 we are continuing with many of the same policies as we had during the Cold War when they actually made sense and were necessary. During those times two nations basically had their hands in whatever was happening anywhere in the world, the US and the USSR. NOBODY did anything without one of us having a voice of influence in it in some capacity. Now it's 2025 and there is no Soviet Union anymore, there is only one superpower left which is us. Yet we are expected to continue our global influence over everything much the same way we did when we had to deal with the Soviets who were absolutely willing to control anything we didn't touch first. The Russian Federation is not the Soviet Union and the Cold War is over. It's time for America for take a step back from being Team America World Police and ask our allies to start stepping up and handling some of these regional conflicts in their respective areas. America can't be the planetary defense force forever nor should we be expected to act as such. Post WWII when our Western allies were in a rebuilding stage and the Soviet Union emerged as a legitimate rival superpower to the US then yeah it made sense for us to act like this. Fast forward to 2025 where our allies have modern capable 21st century armies and economic power and no more Soviet Empire looming then yeah they can absolutely step up and start taking the lead on some of this stuff.
I believe that the militaries won't matter. When Trump gives all of Ukraine to Russia and leaves NATO Russia will apply pressure with energy dependence.
False China is also a superpower. Second largest economy, nukes and growing military. Trump is determined to make Russia one again.
China is an economic superpower they are not a global superpower. Simply calling them one doesn't make it factually correct. China does not have the military capability to project power globally. Certain criteria must be met before a nation is considered a full global superpower, only one nation meets said criteria at the moment and that is the United States. China is however the 2nd most powerful nation in the world at the moment and that's nothing to shake a stick at.

Awww lookit. More butt hurt. I didn't say I didn't investigate it, I said I ignored it. And the reason I ignored it is as I said in the earlier post: The military does not decide who it attacks or why.
It sounds like you don't understand the info in post #19. http://politicalforum.com/index.php?threads/what-is-americas-military-for.625919/#post-1075280175 Saying that the military does not decide who it attacks or why doesn't address the argument. The argument is that the US government doesn't use its military to defend freedom and democracy in the world. The US government uses the CIA and the military to keep its de facto colonies in line and turn other countries into US de facto colonies so that American companies can steal their resources. The official narrative that the US government is defending freedom and democracy in the world is a big lie. Please address that argument.
No thank you. This thread is about the purpose of the US military. Your issue is with the government, specifically the CIA and what they use the military for. Trying to derail a thread so you can shout your theories is a fail. If you want to discuss "de facto colonies" and demonize the US for it's humanitarian efforts start a new thread. I decline to play your silly game.
I think that, if you want to see the appropriate model for international relations, take a look at China. It gets what it wants without using its military. It hasn't been involved in a war for some time. They are smart. We should pay attention. No, I'm not a sinophile but I do recognize a better approach when I see it.
They are lied to. They are used. Many know this but still serve because they know that even though it's true, they are still also the only ones in a position to defend freedom of America as you rightly point out.
