    Cry me a river...

I already wrote why it's futile to report trolls on this forum, so why do you want me to waste my time doing it. This doesn't change who you are though...

Why do you keep ignoring the fact that the article you love to link to repeatedly calls it an aircraft carrier?

Nations classify their warships the way they do for different reasons:

The Russians/Soviets classify aircraft carriers as "aviation cruisers" to get access through the straits.
The British classified their small carriers as "through deck cruisers" to avoid a political battle with the RAF which wanted to operate the only British fixed wing aircraft.
The Japanese call their fleet of small carriers "helicopter destroyers" because they don't want alarm other nations in the region who still remember World War Two and the mighty Imperial Japanese Navy.

An informative and interesting post! So what you are saying is that it is legal (or tolerated) to name vessels anything they like? Who oversees such straits (if anyone) and is there any control with fines an such?

And also to get around Article 9 of their Constitution that bans the construction of aircraft carriers.

All three of these examples are all aircraft carriers that weren't called aircraft carriers for political reasons.

The Turks oversee the Bosphorus. The Montreax Agreement is a multi-national agreement by all neighboring nations (at the time it was signed) defining what can and cannot transit them to get to the Black Sea/Mediterranean. The agreement bans aircraft carriers from transiting, so Russia gets around it by calling their aircraft carriers "cruisers".

If the people of Crimea and Donbas are free to leave Ukraine at a whim, why shouldn't the Baltic peoples have the freedom not to be dominated by the poor yet greedy would-be empire to the East? Besides, you're talking about a deal with Sweden 300 years ago for Latvia and Estonia. I don't see how these countries were ever Sweden's to own and sell in the first place, and the political entities involved, and the realities within each involved country, have all changed significantly since then.

Basically true. And the Turks oversee the Bosporus and Dardanelles Straits because the Dardanelles could legitimately be called an "inland water way" of Turkey since Turkish territory borders both sides of it. Turkish territory borders one side of the Bosporus.

But yeah, nations can call their warships whatever they choose. The U.S. could label the Nimitz and Ford class aircraft carriers "Global Peace Projectors" if they chose to.

Its a case of ....how dare these states declare independence and incorporate into EU& Nato....:))), the vatniks suffer from a severe case of post Soviet hangover, and a constant denial of an abusive alcoholic.

Why wouldn’t russia let Chechnya and Tatarstan go? Apparently everyone is free to leave.

Russia has only 3 active borei class subs.
The US has 18 Ohio class subs that would make Russia beg for mercy if ever used.

So theoretically, Turkey can turn back any vessel that is classified as an aircraft-carrier, or alternatively, levy some sort or duty or bribe its way through?

I guess the next question is .... if you can classify your vessel "anything" you like, can it vary so that you can call it one thing one place and call it another thing somewhere else?

Yes, which is why an America-class can be an Amphibious Assault ship or a Sea Control Ship/Light Carrier depending on its load out.

    I know.
I’m just saying that the idea of Kadyrov running whole russia is bad for everyone - russians and the world. I’ve heard about this possibility in the past and hope this will never materialize.
Putin might have some serious debts to pay to Kadyrov, so who knows?
