Nice try sorry but It doesn't wash. When you engage in speculation about things which you can not hope to prove the discussion is no longer based in science but in faith.where in all you have or ever likely will have is what you believe.

people have good reason to fear for the future if neoatheology ever takes root, they seem to think that a special set of rules apply to them and them only.

The point is that at this point in time we can't prove any thing prior to the existence of that original singularity. Hence when one tries to look back prior to that time we are talking about belief not science and it is quite likely to remain that way until the universe goes away. In short I wasn't talking about proving or disproving God.

Exactly. So it's nonsensical to an arrogant extent to claim that Stalin's atheism towards your particular silly deity made him a murderer.

Not what anyone is claiming. The claim is simply that evil people do evil things and whether or not they espouse any religion at all or no religion at all is utterly immaterial to the fact that they have eschewed good and adopted evil. Neither God nor the Devil compel you to act in a given manner. That is all on you. Making excuses for people who do evil things merely encourages them to continue in their evil ways.

All religions are basically the same. They speak to primordial parts of the human psyche. When we see our Faith reflected in others that's a validation not a refuting ( A Catholic priest told me that )

You disprove it by proving a positive, not a negative. You prove the earth is round (or very nearly so.} that isn't proving a negative.

There is no proof that there is a god. So it is impossible to disprove it not only because you can't prove a negative but because there is no fact involved. It is faith vs. lack of faith. Science doesn't have all the answers. We all know that. But it is working on it.

Of course not. What the hell's your point?
Because if there's more than one, there aren't any at all.

it demonstrates that the Sumerian texts came long before the bible, the bible is a re-write

ah, so you don't know, you just have faith and will choose to ignore anything that may disagree with that faith?

guess that goes to the title of this tread, for some, religion will never be overtaken by logic

if one really has faith that something is true, they should not fear logic, cause if there beliefs really are true, this would only help them prove it.... course unless their faith is weak and they think it may prove their beliefs wrong

It depends on what you mean by speculation.

It's fine to speculate about relativistic effects due to speed. From there, one has to do extensive testing.

There is nothing wrong with speculation if it is the outset of an honest investigation. One can not start by random testing of ... ??? One has to have a speculation, an hypothesis. Then one can proceed to testing.

I have no problem at all with speculation. Just saying that when you speculate about that which you cannot test, as in the case of things prior to the big bang, you are not really engaging in a scientific discussion. Speculative fiction can be fun but it cannot be proven..

Religion will be taken over by logic when there is evidence that logic plays a significant role in human affairs.

The "child of 12 or 13" business is a fiction created later, it has no Biblical support.

I would say that some speculations can be tested and others can not. As technology advances, some previously untestable speculations can become testable.

For example, the Higgs Boson was not part of experimental science (science) until the CERN collider was constructed, making testing possible. Then, the speculation (actually a highly developed mathematical model) was able to be tested and thus this became part of science.

There are those who speculate that there are/have been other big bangs. Those who thought about that considered that if it were true, we might be able to detect circles of specific types in our cosmos. Scientists did a serious examination of data gathered concerning galaxies, the cosmic background radiation, etc. and have not been able to find the circles that would have resulted.

So, here we have a case of scientific testing of a phenomenon that is outside our own big bang universe, but in this case the tests didn't enlighten anyone. So, it remains a speculation only.

Again, there is nothing wrong with speculation. What would be unscientific is to accept those speculations without verification through testing.

For the second time I have no problem with speculation people including me do it all the time. It's a human thing. Speculation can be extrapolation known facts or it can be out there stuff for which no rational support can be obtained at this time. Until it can be it is an act of faith not of science to push such speculation. Science requires evidence and proof speculation not so much. And let's make it an odd three times there is nothing wrong with that.
