    I don't think torturing dogs per se was really a super-fashionable thing in 19th century western society, though they were placed in some questionable situations to be sure.

    Some may use more modulated language but their intentions are radical and counterproductive. Obama gave us Trump by making bathrooms a symbol of chaos.

    Nancy Pelosi's Father Helped Dedicate Confederate Monument
    [Libs tell us how parties flipped again]

    By Brooke Singman
    Aug 24, 2017

    It was May 2, 1948, when, according to a Baltimore Sun article from that day, “3,000” looked on as then-Governor William Preston Lane Jr. and Pelosi’s father, the late Thomas D’Alesandro Jr., spoke at the dedication of a monument to honor Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson.
    The article said Lane delivered a speech, and Mayor D’Alesandro “accepted” the memorial.
    “Today, with our nation beset by subversive groups and propaganda which seeks to destroy our national unity, we can look for inspiration to the lives of Lee and Jackson to remind us to be resolute and determined in preserving our sacred institutions,” D’Alesandro said in his dedication. “We must remain steadfast in our determination to preserve freedom, not only for ourselves, but for the other liberty-loving nations who are striving to preserve their national unity as free nations.”
    He added: “In these days of uncertainty and turmoil, Americans must emulate Jackson’s example and stand like a stone wall against aggression in any form that would seek to destroy the liberty of the world.”
    With President Trump cautioning that the drive to purge Confederate statues could represent a slippery slope, the White House has flagged Pelosi's family history as she fuels the statue opposition.

    ______

    The majority of memorials were dedicated in the early 20th century, decades after the Civil War, and were part of Democratic Party campaigns to promote and justify Jim Crow laws in the South. The year 1911 saw the largest number constructed, which was the year of the semi-centennial of the Civil War. Memorials were dedicated on public spaces by Democratic Party politicos either at public expense or funded by private organizations and donors.
    The truth is, the Democrats have a pretty poor history on Civil Rights, including Nancy Pelosi’s own father the former Mayor of Baltimore.
    Although totally denied today, the Democrat Party has a long history of opposing Civil Rights, favoring Jim Crow laws, defending slavery back to the founding of this country long before the Civil War.

    Yes it is the goal, even if all the progressives are not aware themselves. I wouldn't exactly consider myself progressive, though I have no issue with Americans replacing the constitution. The real issue for me is what ideology would replace the constitution.

    Hello Wehrwolfen. For those of us who would like to see the constitution replaced, it depends on the individual. For example, I don't support the First Amendment. Though my reasons, and what would be protected or restricted by a new First Amendment may differ from what most American progressives would want. But to answer your question, I would rather see it replaced by a constitution based on my views. As for the specifics of where I stand on various issues, you may ask if you like. Though I hope it wouldn't take up your time.

    The main objective of the Progressive Socialist/Marxists goal is to replace the US Constitution with the Soviet Marxist Socialist false utopian view . Just a look at the recent changes to the Venezuelan Constitution having made virtual slaves of the people there. Both Chavez and his protégé Maduro have taken a Constitutional Free productive country to where people can't get food to feed themselves, and are now living under a totalitarian state that emulates the horrors of the USSR, PRC, and Cuba.

    Which parts of the 1st Amendment do you oppose?

    Here it is in full:

    "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"

    Thank you SkullKrusher. I was going to open a seperate window to read it but this is much better. First, I oppose the fact that Congress cannot prohibit the excercise of religion. Most, if not all religions have drastically different views than my own. Thus I find them something that needs to be restrained or altogether prohibited. China for example, has what I consider good policies as far as dealing with religion. They allow it, yet keep religion under control so that it doesn't interfere with state ideology.

    Speech and press is something I also feel needs to be restrained. Opposing viewpoints, hate speech and even teasing are all protected by the First Amendment. I feel individuals and the media should be regulated as to what they can say.

    Protests, even if peaceful, would be unecessary in an ideologically united society, so I see no need for that portion in the Amendment.

    So long as citizens are respectful, I have no issue with someone petitioning the government as far as sending letters or speaking with a government official if there is something that seriously concerns them and doesn't challenge ideological principles.

    ______

    It might be odd to hear that Robert E. Lee, the great general of the Confederacy, was once a major figure in Brooklyn. While still a captain in the US Army in 1839, Lee was given the task of improving armament at Fort Hamilton as well as other forts in the region, and served here until 1846. A major east-west street inside the military reservation is named for him, and he was a vestryman at St. John’s Episcopal (Anglican) Church at Fort Hamilton Parkway and 99th Street. The church is still there, now on its second structure.
    It will take a lot of revisionist history to eradicate the name of Robert E. Lee from the history of New York City and State. No one is denying the error of Robert E. Lee to put his state before his country. Just as those that fought against the "North" in preference to their Southern ideals and slavery. I remember the words of MacArthur:
    "Duty, Honor, Country: Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be. They are your rallying points: to build courage when courage seems to fail; to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith; to create hope when hope becomes forlorn. Unhappily, I possess neither that eloquence of diction, that poetry of imagination, nor that brilliance of metaphor to tell you all that they mean".
    ~~~~~
    "In my dreams I hear again the crash of guns, the rattle of musketry, the strange, mournful mutter of the battlefield. But in the evening of my memory I come back to West Point. Always there echoes and re-echoes: Duty, Honor, Country".
    Both men generations apart believed in the same things. The difference is that Robert E. Lee chose his State of Virginia above the Union of the States he took an oath to serve and protect. For upholding Democrat traditions and loyalty now Democrats want to erase their hero and others from the history of their treason against the United States of America. Something that president Lincoln in the end tried to heal the nation by pardoning all that participated in the folly.
    Which works for those such as myself as well. Almost a foolish choice on the United State's part. What is most important about the First Amendment to you personally, TOG 6?
    True, I never understood their obsession with Communism. The reason why I oppose religious "freedom" is because most religions have a lot in common with it. They regulate a person to only what an authority says they need, not what the individual wants. Capitalism provides the people with more pleasure and choice.
    Then you could also class Progressive Socialist/Marxism as a religion. They too regulate all who follow that ideology to solely what their authority demands and not the individual. They call it equality. Despair for all except for the elite.
    Well I couldn't exactly classify Socialism or Marxism as a religions due to the lack of supernatural aspects. I see what you are saying though. It may not be despair for all non-Elite citizens. I'm sure many would agree with Socialist/Marxist ideology.
    I personally, would have no issue submitting to an authority if it shared my same beliefs and opinions. But I've never read about any ideology that actually does.
    America was founded on principles of liberalism and secular humanism. The Founding Fathers were the epitome of the Enlightenment.
    You honestly think Madison or Jefferson would approve of Trump?
    America was not founded as a Christian nation. When the Adams Administration sought commercial trade with Tripoli, the US sought to assure the Muslim nation that the US showed no bias towards any religion. The US was founded as a secular nation, which was clearly stated:
    "The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."
    My source is the Treaty of Tripoli. I gave you the context of the passage I had quoted.
    Hey. Since you claim I'm taking the Treaty of Tripoli out of context, would you be kind enough to explain why you think this?
