Israelis have a well-financed and very effective Washington lobby that promotes their image; Palestinians obviously do not. Pretending that only either Palestinian Muslims and Christians or Israeli Jews are entirely to blame for chronic hostilities is unrealistic. Extremists in both camps, whether de facto or de iure, perpetuate the mayhem. On the one hand, Israel illegally confiscates land, persecutes and kills Palestinians, and prohibits or suppresses their commerce, but on the other hand, it is an admirable, advanced social welfare state with an excellent government-regulated, universal health coverage system that the 2012 GOP nominee admired and hoped to emulate. If Palestinians were ever allowed economic freedom, they would have a vested interest in preserving the peace and stability that are conducive to prosperity, and would eventually come to closely resemble their neighbouring nation. It's convenient to think in simplistic terms - "good guys vs bad guys" - but it's always far more nebulous, based more on differing circumstances than disparate ethics. They're all people, neither the angels nor demons that some like to imagine.
You will undoubtedly stick to your "angels vs demons" pipe dream, but antagonists in the other's shoes will closely resemble the other. The behaviour of people is largely determined by their circumstances. When economic opportunity is denied to them, they react as one would expect.
America is afraid of a Muslim state. If it wasn't for Israel that whole block could become a muslim controlled territory. Which is a threat to the American way
Because Israel is the only place in the MiddleEast where American Christians can go and not get threatened with death for openingly carrying a Bible.
I'm not playing cards with you. If a poll was posted: Why do communists support the Palestinians? 1. A hatred of all jews. 2. Grieving over the loss of the Third Reich 3. Guilt over not supporting the Muslim on 9/11 4. Other The socialists would vote for one of the first three and normal people would vote "other".
Israel is the only country most Americans can identify with in the Middle East. Mostly fair skinned people, somewhat Western culture and legal system, etc. Same goes for Hong Kong in Central Asia, South Africa in Africa, etc.
Obviously the OP, Socialism Works, failed to think this one through. Having so many replies to "other" tells me that the reasons listed on this poll are NOT the reasons Americans and others believe that we are so pro Israel. This is similar to what his name implies as that too was a FAIL in actually believing that socialism would work.
Israel has a much better record with freedom of speech, freedom of press, equality, govt. transparency, than the Palestinians. its that simple.
AIPAC is, by far, the best-funded and most effective foreign lobby in Washington. If it weren't heavily influencing US politicians and public opinion, they'd be squandering a fortune. My conclusion is that they feel their money is being wisely invested, and that they are heavily influencing American policy and attitudes. Obviously, if it were having no such influence, it would not be deemed a wise investment, and would cease to exist. To Israel's credit, it is an advanced social welfare state with effective, government-regulated universal health care coverage that is far superior to that of all its neighbours, and Americans Jews are, overwhelmingly, intelligent voters. .
because israelis are europeans and palestinians are asian, obviously. its like who would you support in a football match, ghana or germany? practically nobody here would support ghana.
I was asking the reasons that Americans were so pro-Israel. If I knew the answers I wouldn't have posted the poll. Socialism is actually working quite well in the UK, by the way (free health care, free prescriptions for over 60s (or chronically ill of any age), free bus travel for over 60s). This is despite the right wing UK governments (Conservatives) doing their best to kill off these socialist ideas.
plus Israel's values are closer. - - - Updated - - - I guess you haven't seen a map of the Middle East. Arab lands= huge. Jewish lands= tiny. - - - Updated - - - AIPAC doesn't donate much money to political campaigns.
Jewish lands = small (but getting bigger with land stolen from the Palestinians) Palestinian lands = tiny (and getting smaller still with the land stolen from the Palestinians)
Are you just a little embarrassed by the way Hamas hides behind Palestinians. Like the Concordia captain taking the first lifeboat off the doomed liner. In other words, where are your morals to the fact that once weapons are fired from a mosque, it is no longer a mosque? Now it is a target for IDF's to level it.
how many muslims were in that land before israel and the UN decided to remove them from their homes and land? How many jews were there?
