You have to know what God is to know God. God is non-intellectual, so you really can't "know" him the way you might know an apple, but you can experience Him in everything you do.
I appreciate any help I can get, but might I suggest that you work on yourself first?
The intellectualization of existence is not for the weak of spirit. OTOH, cast off the need to immerse oneself in the duality and you will find that your faith pays 500 to 1.
Thank you for your thoughtful response.
I like to think that religion is the intellectuaization of God [spirituality]. God, Himself, being in the non-intellectual realm, defies the duality and all the other baggage that attends cognition. He is indeed everything and everywhere as are all things unknowable. It is the giving up of the ego [duality] that allows one to enter this realm and "know" such things.
The God most rail against is simply a [poor] intellectual approximation of the non-intellectual which [and although He will never stand-up under scrutiny] hopefully whets the appetite of the seeker to go beyond the word and images and all the rest to find their way home.
:Having faith is believing in something you just know ain't true." - Mark Twain
Yes sir, I will stand back while you help EVERYONE.
Science tells us there is a reason for everything – there is reason gravity exist, there is a reason the sky is blue, there is a reason the hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe and more - so must be the reason why humans exist. Lets call this reason – God.
According to researchers there are more than 6000 Gods recognized by humans, but we know there is only one God is true - all others Gods are fake, so the chances that you believe in one true God are very slim.
It happens I am the lucky one, I believe in one true God AND I CAN PROVE IT.
One of the hardest question facing religions is the problem of good and bad. Why perfect God created such imperfect world with earthquakes, floods, wars, tsunamis, diseases, wives' headaches and the lack of parking in Manhattan? Why???
The only LOGICAL explanation is that only a drunk God could create such an imperfect world.
Not only religions are wrong – science makes mistakes too. As everybody knows C-14 (carbon 14) is the result of the interaction cosmic rays with nitrogen (cosmic rays contain neutrons). When a neutron collides with a nitrogen atom, causing capture of the neutron and release of the proton converting nitrogen to a carbon-14 (6 protons and 8 neutrons). The resulting C-14 combines with atmospheric oxygen to form radioactive carbon dioxide, which is incorporated into plants by photosynthesis; animals then acquire C-14 by eating the plants. When the animal or plant dies, it stops exchanging carbon with its environment, and thereafter the amount of C-14 it contains begins to decrease as the C-14 undergoes radioactive decay. Measuring the amount of C-14 in a sample from a dead plant or animal, such as a piece of wood or a fragment of bone, provides information that can be used to calculate when the animal or plant died.
BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF GOD REMOVES C-14 ATOMS FROM A TESTED SAMPLES IN ORDER TO CHECK OUR FAITH? Check mate scientists!
Another scientists error – for scientists the fact that primates have 98% of humans DNA is a proof than humans evolved from primates.
But pirates DNA is 99% similar to human DNA – is it convincing proof that human evolved from pirates?
How can we find if a God is true God? Very simple - God who knows humans nature is a true God, God who doesn’t know human nature is a fake God.
The reword for good human behavior is the paradise.
What is a Jewish paradise? Uninterrupted study of Torah and Talmud – for 99% of humanity it is punishment and not reword – it is a very convincing proof Jewish God don’t know the true human nature.
What is a Christian paradise? Singing and praising God - for 90% of humanity it is not the reword, even Catholic priest will agree that paradise without small children is a boring place – it is a very convincing proof Christian God don’t know the true human nature.
What is a Muslim paradise? Well, a little better, you can get 72 virgins, but only on condition that you kill infidels, but not everyone who wants to kill infidels prefers virgins, or even women. On top of this, recent translation of secret Muslim text tells that the original promise was not 72virgins, but one 72 year old virgin. So it is a very convincing proof Muslim God doesn’t know the true human nature.
Now look on this paradise and tell me you don’t want to be there:
volcanoes from which cold beer flows, stripper factories that produce beautiful strippers ready to fulfill every wish of a paradise resident, men, women, gays and lesbians. Don’t you think this is the true paradise from God knows humans nature?
Now lets look on the hell – Jewish, Christian and Muslim Gods wants that people will burn forever – such only a sadist can be so cruel.
The true God has different idea of hell – it looks like a paradise, but volcano spill stale beer and stripers suffer from sexually transmitted diseases.
Yes my friends, let me reveal the name of the only one and true God:
Flying Spaghetti Monster.
In the Name of the Pasta, and of the Sauce, and of the Holy Meatballs praise the only one and true God - Flying Spaghetti Monster,
I believe you have to look deeper into his comment to understand what he was getting at...that knowledge was not going to reveal the truth.
Perhaps not, but the guy was OTT brilliant.
Faith is a lot more than just religion. If you lose faith in people, nihilism sets in. To me, faith is going with your gut that is dependent on things much more accurate than your reasoning.
Whatever works for you.
I am just attempting to provide a different perspective. People need to help themselves.
We are all god. That is literally all that exists.
I don't agree that god is a good hypothesis.
Sean is a very good writer; his latest book a good read
I.think George Carlin does a commentary on Religion that illustrates what organized religion really is. It’s a funny take that is one of the best commentaries I have seen.
I thought it was a pretty clear question. Which god are you talking about? I'm a fan of Odin, myself.
BINGO!!! Consciousness is the Source of everything, and we are both separate parts of the whole, and the whole itself. I'm not sure I understand how that works exactly, but it's part of what I learned during my NDE.
It's one of my favorite Carlin bits. One can easily expand this to, "everything intellectual is bs," some accepted, and some not. The notion that religion is bs does not counter the argument that it helps billions of people make it through their days. After all, what isn't bs?
Too much thinking, no doubt. I am speaking of God, the one who cannot be intellectualized.
I am not familiar with Odin although I am sure s/he/it is a wonderful god.
Are you speaking of God or god?
I'm assuming that you would capitalize YOUR god and leave that of all others uncapitalized.
Do you really want what you say to refer only to YOUR god?
I don't understand this use of "intellectual".
As a matter of convention, God is used when referring to the non-intellectual, whereas god can refer to any god you choose, e.g., Re, one of the Egyptian sun gods.
Personally, I am not a religious person. That does not mean that I don't appreciate the significance of God.
Posted in error.
That's a nonsense distinction in any way other than denoting the gods you see as BS and the one god you believe to be real.
Separate names with a comma.
