Dueverger's Law states that, " The law asserts the [plurality rule], so single-member districts favor a two party system." In my personal opinion, third party systems will never become popular. They have lingered in the shadows of the Democratic and Republican parties, and their track record shows that this will continue to happen in the future. We can look back to creation of the Bull Moose party headed by our nations former Republican President Theodore Roosevelt. It is a perfect example of showing how weak third party systems are, because even though Theodore Roosevelt had served as the previous presidential nominee for the Republican party, he lost the majority of his supporters, and Taft won in a landslide victory. The Green Party has to be the only third party that came anywhere close to leveling the playing field with the Democratic and Republican parties.
