Trump said Putin would only release the prisoners to Trump.

So the question is why didnt Trumo try to get them released when he was president?

Mangos lie social tirade is sure to be epic once he wakes up and waddles his fat ass to the toilet for his late night dump.

To be completely clear: I’m beyond happy a deal was made and these people are now free.

It’s just so pathetic that any politician would try and use this just in time for an election.

This is a staged photo op designed to boost support for harris, that’s all.

Why didn’t Biden do this sooner?

    The worst kind of pathetic.

Using people’s emotions to gain support.

    Just disgusting.

I'd imagine these deals take time. Whelan was imprisoned since 2018 and Trump let him suffer. Why didn't Trump do anything?

Gershkovich was arrested in 2023 and sentenced to 16 years in jail last month on spying charges. Whelan was detained in 2020 on espionage charges, as well. The US has deemed both prisoners “wrongfully detained”

    ...

He was arrested in 2018, he wasn't sentenced until 2020. So Russia and Whelan had their chance to argue Ina court of law on Russian soil.

Good point. I thought that Putin would do that only for Trump! These negotiations were so complicated and complex that his pea brain wouldn’t be able to comprehend them, and involved allies that he **** on so wouldn’t have been able to get them to cooperate.

....first you have to understand why he was arrested in the first place and then you need to realise that the Russian state has moved into hostage taking as a tool of statecraft. The individual is targetted by the FBS/GRU depending upon what they think they can leverage and this is when the process begins. Russia has a very convoluted judicial system at best but when there are high profile victims (where you have FSB / State sponsored actors manipulating from the background) it really becomes theatre....anyway....there is a "procedure" that kicks in (in one form or another) which involves lawyers and hearings and detention and and and...these take time and are essentially designed to ramp up the tension and culminate with some absurd ruling and a colossal prison sentence....this sentencing stage is the most essential part of the performance as it sends the message to those involved in the US for example. It effectively tells people how much the FSB/GRU think he is worth and what the FSB/GRU want for him. Until this part is on the table nothing really can be down. Your state department and intelligence services will be well aware of the process and how it works. The point being this has very little to do with Biden.

How was Trump going to stumble through this process? By yammering on about how his fake personal relationship with Putin would get it done?. He would not have been able to enlist the support of our allies because of how he publicly degrades them.

yup...I'm assuming that was why Trump threw his toys out the pram and was hammering away on social media having a hissy fit about the outcome and him not being center stage....sucks to be him I suppose...anyway the lad really needs to shut his gob and think sometimes...ah well ....

The timing is a bit of a puzzler though, Russia obviously had a portfolio of names it wanted released and likewise was gathering together the requisite swappsies they needed to supposedly seal deal; Gershkovich being the last name of note. Gershkovich's trial lasted just 2 days....I mean under normal circumstances 2 days is what it takes for opening statements and at least that for the Judges' summary at the end of the performance. These things can usually take years so makes you wonder at the people they wanted back and why...there are some pretty odious characters amongst them and some pretty sharp money launders I suppose! In any case it seems that Russia was eager for a deal so they rushed through the trial process..

The bogus “only I” claim. Trump’s an incompetent blow hard who never learned how government works, and is hopelessly lost in the international realm. He’s not capable of being president, and is unwilling to learn.

Did anyone watch when the plane with the hostages landed? I did and here's what happened.

Biden and Harris are standing at the bottom of the stairs to the plane, the families of the hostages are about 15 or so yards behind them. One hostage comes down the stairs and is greeted by Biden and then Harris for a few minutes, it only then the hostage can go his family. After the Biden is done greeting the first hostage a second one is allowed to come down the stairs and the same thing happened. Repeat all this for the third hostage.

That POS staged their release for a photo op and that scumbag made the families of the hostages wait until his picture was taken individually with each one of them.

At least he didn't look at his watch.

You must be angry. At least Biden didnt let Russia send them back in a comatose state like the previous president let Korea do and kissed their butts after they did it.

Ahhhh, you must be talking about Otto Warmbier who was taken by the Norks while Obama was in charge. Can you list all the things Obama did to get him out. I know he’s wasn’t a gay black they/them, but he was still an American.

Your attempted gotcha post failed miserably.

Biden got back prisoners, some of whom were taken under Trump's watch and he did nothing.

North Korea gave Wambiar back because he was about to die. Trump didnt do enough sooner.

If Biden got a prisoner back who died a few days later, we all know how the extremist right would react and who they would blame.

This prisoner exchange was a success much to your dismay.

Yep. Trump did nothing about that. Instead, he “fell in love” with Kim. He then stuck his orange tongue up Kim’s butt. And his entire head up Putin’s KGB anus.

Thinking that incompetent Trump could’ve done what Biden pulled off is fantasy. You have to treat your allies decently.
