And let's not forget that for all practical purposes almost all limits on political speech by corporations and Non profits regardless of class were struck down. That means by and large that if in all other ways the entity qualifies as a non profit than it can say, politically whatever the hell it ones regardless of restrictions placed there by congress.

 

Your assumptions or memory are faulty. This is EXACTLY what witnesses have done for the last 200 years. That is because this is just one more in a stream of self serving grandstanding and not an investigation to fix anything.

How do I know this is the case? Simple. There is a long standing and much used rule that would bring out the truth immediately; one that hasn't been used for any of these political excersises since Iran/Contra that I know of; grant the testimony of the witness immunity from prosecution. This does NOT mean the witness can not later be prosecuted for the crime, but that nothing said at the hearing is admissible in court. They use to do it all the time in Congressional hearings, but that closes the doors and the Congressmen can't get on TV asking their grandstanding questions.

These hearings are about 30 second campaign commercials, not investigating anything. The tools exist if they wanted information, but information you can't get on the News isn't anything they are interested in.

 

The real arrogance is in attempting to manufacture outrage over some relatively minor level shenanigans that have been around since bureaucracy was invented.

Spend all the time in the world trying to discredit the administration while blocking all meaningful legislation designed to address the real issues and challenges of the country and not proposing any fo their own viable solutions. Yep congressional republicans should be proud of their almost total lack of governance.

There is no evidence that Domestic calls were being listened to. What was being listened to is calls that originated over seas but came though our system for a period of time. By the way overseas wireless intercepts was what NSA was originally chartered for. The problem with modern communications is that calls are often routed in a rather circuitous manner to avoid over crowding on some links during certain times of the day.

But what was supoenaed? And No one claimed to know exactly where everything was only that they thought he had chemical weapons and Possibly biological ones as well and was trying to go nuclear. They were wrong but so were the intelligence agencies of half the countries in the West. Hell half the Democrats in congress and in the proceeding administration had said they thought Saddam had Chemical weapons prior to Bush being elected.
